Author's Note: Yeah, keeping it regular now! Definitely going to be a bit longer than the original lol. Anyway, I cut some of the original chapter out, modified the dialogue a little, included Farlowe, introduced the barkeep's name earlier. Just a lot of mechanical stuff and ensuring the updated information was present. I like Hood, specifically her way of talking, and especially the fact that she appears far more knowledgeable than she might appear. Although she appears rather aloof she's actually quite savvy and furthermore she appears quite invested in the poor state of affairs. A strong notion that Truscott is subtly resisting.
On another note, having pursued this edit for a little while, I noticed this chapter was a bit longer than the others. At first I was a little worried but actually, I think it works. In my other works, I intended my chapters to reach a uniform length bracket with every upload. Looking back, this kept me consistent and gave me a good idea of what I want a chapter to look like. The downside was, I placed just as much importance on fulfilling a numerical obligation as I did meeting the story goals. In reassessing my work, I think that has made writing actually very difficult and might have consumed energy that could have been spent elsewhere. That was an objective based on the circumstances of sites I was posting on, in which formatting and user desires for longer chapters governed my approach more than my own wishes. So, I promised myself I would not force a number on myself in my work; when I've met a chapter's plot/story/narrative goals, that's that, no matter the length. Furthermore, this is a good way to experiment with longer and shorter chapters; the previous chapter was action-based, and it being shorter, I think, made it more effective. It was quick and sharp; it didn't get bogged down under its own weight with useless details.
This makes me look ahead to ongoing and future projects where I can flesh out other chapters but keep action tight and focused. It might help further implement the peaks-and-troughs that help keep stories engaging. Anyway, enough jawing, onto the lore notes and that's it for me!
