Description
To offset the limited maneuverability of the Martian's Phoenix-class Battle Carriers, the second spaceframe commissioned by the Martian government was meant to shield this weakness, while providing another viable heavy weapons platform. The Aquila-class heavy destroyer had the speed to cover the flanks of the massive Phoenix-class and the weaponry to hold its own against even the Federation's Spartan-class cruisers.

At roughly one-third the size of a Phoenix-class, the Aquila-class hovered around its larger brethren like hornets to a nest. Rarely do Aquilas break this formation to engage in direct combat unless any opposing targets were within a critical proximity. As more Aquilas rolled out of the shipyards, they began to phase out the Sentry and Augustus-class ships the Martians had been relying upon out of necessity.
