"Desperation"

Generic rauisuchian, Leptosuchus crosbiensis. A digital painting I did for my digital media class. Spent a lot of time reworking the background on suggestion of my lecturer.

This was inspired by the discovery of a rauisuchian femur that was found with bite marks from a phytosaur, which attacked the rauisuchian when it was alive. It was interesting to such an interaction by two large predators, who generally would avoid each other. I wanted to explore an idea that the phytosaur attacked the rauisuchian out of desperation during a drought. I don't think either animal was identified specifically. The rauisuchian is based on Saurosuchus, namely because of a mistake about my selected genus I made quite late in this piece's development. So I chose to make it resemble Saurosuchus because there are fragmentary skull remains found in the Blue Mesa part of the Chinle Formation that resemble's Saurosuchus' (which is actually native to Argentina). Though it is disputed whether it is Saurcosuchus, hence my description of it as a "generic rauisuchian".
