Description
“The Smell of Carrion”
Tyrannosaurus rex, Denversaurus schlessmani, Dakotaraptor steini, Borealosuchus sternbergii, Brachychampsa montana, Gilmoremys lancensis, Meniscoesssus robustus. A recent acrylic painting of a bloated corpse of a Denversaurus that has floated downstream, ending up in a cypress swamp, where the smell of the decay has attracted an array of scavengers looking for a free meal.
This was completed some time in late May, but I held off on posting the final piece as Dr. Thomas Holtz asked if he could use it as part of a press release for a recent paper he had worked on regarding the ecological niche occupation of younger tyrannosaurs, how they fill out the roles of mesopredators in their environments. The paper is titled; “Theropod guild structure and the tyrannosaurid niche assimilation hypothesis: implications for predatory dinosaur macroecology and ontogeny in later Late Cretaceous Asiameric.”
Completed in late May 2021.
Done using acrylics, color pencils, and Photoshop CC.
