Description
HUGE FILE WARNING!
Since CGArena has officially published my tutorial outside their e-zine, I decided to upload it here as well. However, you still can find it on their website .
Here's the walkthrough of my Natalie picture.
This tutorial was created to show my painting process, so I'm afraid it isn't meant for total beginners in digital painting/Photoshop. Although I tried to explain everything as clearly as I could. ^^
ENJOY!!!

I have a question:
How do you even start? I am trying this painting thing now for so many times but it doesn't work. :/
Hair is no problem, but how do I colour the skin? I am totally confused and it is so frustrating when I sit on a picture for hours but I don't get a result at all. It doesn't look right, not even in the slightest.

this reminds me of a pic I made awhile ago. But also different. For my pic, I started out wanting to paint on top of the sketch, but it didn't look right when I tried that, so I ended up making thin lineart and adjusting the lineart while doing theΒ shading.

I really want to be able to paint like this. Hopefully with enough practice and help from this tutorial I can!

So do you do your colouring over the lineart? Because I see people managing to colour and somehow their lineart is no longer visible when they're done (or it's barely there). I usually colour under the lineart (with the rest of the lineart layer being transparent) and I'd like to get the same effect. But I'm afraid if I colour over it, I'll make mistakes or the defining lines won't be as even.

I keep coming back to this tutorial as it is the type of technique I'm trying to emulate, but it's really hard to get anything like similar results. Can you tell me how you achieve such smooth transition between the skin tones on the face? Mine always ends up looking streaky.

It's a great tutorial and all, but this only made me depressed if anything. I tried following but failed. I can't even draw faces properly. Anatomy is sooooooooo difficult. I want to say it's so FUCKING difficult because I'm just that pissed off. I can't understand how you'd come out with a result like this. It's insane. And even though it's ridiculously good, it's not good in a way that I could appreciate it or have it as an inspiring image. BECAUSE. I CAN'T.
Now I'm pissed. Maybe art isn't my thing. Maybe I should like, write or something. I dunno. *sigh*

That was quite a while ago, though. I do have a more positive view on art now. : D

I suppose the key is to practice and then practice some more. I'm not really getting any better at painting although I am making progress with the photomanipulation. That doesn't depend quite so much on skill as vision and application.

I'm sorry if this question have already been asked, but I can't find the "jean brush" on the websites I found... Do you have the link where you found yours please ?
That would be awesome !
(The girl you drew is epic ^^)

aw I didn't find the brush, I made it myself it's easy to make once you have a nice jeans texture
make it a pattern and then apply on a brush as a texture and that should work! ^^

What kind of brush do you use for your lineart?
π: 0 β©: 1
Anako-ART In reply to Kiwi-Punch [2012-11-15 18:58:40 +0000 UTC]
thanks for asking I don't literally do any lineart, it's just a sketch ^^ and I do it with any brush that has opacity jitter/transfer option turned on. :3

it was just a more detailed skech it may look a bit clean on such a small size, but actually it was really very messed up
