People call Sakura useless without knowing what they are talking about. Tsunade doesn't amount to much more than a magical healing energy transmitter but you don't see anyone calling HER useless. She even nearly got her can handed to her by Kabuto.Sakura is a MEDIC!!! She isn't supposed to be on the front lines risking her tail. She stays in the back making sure the people fighting stay in one piece. I play a support character in most MMOs I play and I can vouch that support characters (like Sakura) aren't supposed to throw themselves into the middle of a fight. We stay back and make sure the rest of the team stay healed. Going into battle without a healer is suicide.

Sakura is my favorite Naruto character! Only one of Team 7 that even makes it into my Top 5. Unless you count Sai of course.

Eh. Sakura's still never going to be my favorite character but I can see where you're coming from. The thing is, for me, pre-Shippuden she didnβt do much of anything and only stood calling their names like a cheerleader. And any sympathy I would have had for her being the weakest team member was completely destroyed by the fact that she tended to fangirl about Sasuke and was mean to Naruto.

This, however, does not count once she realizes her weakness. Once she starts training under Tsunade sheβs actually trying to become stronger, making her a better character over all.

People tend to forget that it was established very early on that she was the smartest of the three and picked up on chakra control the quickest. Naruto, in a show of maturity, asked her for help. Sasuke, however, chooses to sulk and ask Naruto indirectly.
What I like about Sakura is her realism and character development. With so many super-human main characters with tragic backstories, it's easy to forget that they don't represent the majority of the population. It's helpful to see a character who actually has to work hard to get where they are - like Rock Lee - or who doesn't have the hardened emotional strength of someone twice their age due to traumatic events in their childhood. They're twelve and straight out of the academy, not ANBU war vets. The whole point of the story is to watch them get stronger, not to simply reinforce how totally super-awesome they are at absolutely everything. (Sasuke, I'm looking at you.)
That's where Sakura's character development comes in. Not only does she get physically stronger, which I think is pretty obvious, but she matures emotionally too. For crap's sake, she acknowledged that Sasuke needed to be put down while Naruto was still clinging to the childish ideal that Sasuke could somehow be "rescued" and brought home. As for her not getting over him, it's important to remember that while he was her childhood crush, he was also her schoolmate, teammate, and a fellow ninja of Konoha, all of which would form a lasting bond between anyone.

Ehh, I don't know, I think it's because her personality and emotion have been all over the spectrum, people are judging her worth by how her contributions have been handled, and on a writing call, those contributions have been handled poorly.Β I know she is portrayed as a very skilled medic, but we havenβt seen enough people being brought back from the brink of death by her to make enough of an impact, whereas the fighting scenes by the male leads stick out more because theyβre just that visceral. Even when she declares that sheβs going to make a contribution to the fight against Madara, Naruto and Sasuke and immediately leave her behind after that chapter and we donβt see her again until she is required to heal Naruto. She may have been instrumental but we will never know because we just donβt see it, and the contribution she has made that we see are very few. I donβt hate her as a character, I hate whatβs been done with her.

I think the closest I ever came to hating her was from the Road to Ninja movie, but that movie was bullshit anyway. Also nobody rags on Tsunade because BOOBS.

Yeah. People rag on her for many things. Saying she's too emotional, too much of a bitch, weak (no idea where they get that) but she is only human and I think she is a pretty good written character. She cares about her friends and will go out of her way to protect them. She is an awesome character.

I totally agree with what you said. Sakura is not useless and she is very strong. Another thing people blame her for is that she is still in love with Sasuke even after all that he has done, but even if she feels that way, she put her village and friends in first place and even tried to kill Sasuke once. Feelings are not something so easy to deal with. And I also think people focus way too much on her and don't realise all the characters have they good and band points. Maybe they feel themselves on Sakura, you know, falling in love with the wrong person and they hate it. haha
