Without Mako, the world would be doomed who knows how many times. Even if Ryuuko would turn into most bloodthirsty oni out from wrath, Mako would be the only person she would not drag to hell.

Well, remember when Ryuko said senketsu is no monster just made for fighting because he is made from life fibers?
Anyway, for a shonen-like protagonist Ryuko is pathetic. I'd rather like to see a reaction like Goku did when Raditz told him he's a saiyan. Even though she is not full human, she still lived as one, she experienced things like friendship, joy etc. She simply shouldn't care so much about herself but more about for example her connection to Satsuki, stick to her ideals and not loose her way.
Right now she is nothing more than a egoistic hothead and a massive asshole.
Funny, you really think you can argue with what a normal human would do? Would a normal 17 year old girl go on a rampage with a giant scissor to revenge her father? It's fiction.
Satsuki is the real hero.

First thing, that rant Ryuuko threw at Senketsu was more at herself. She was more angry at herself for being manipulated... again, she's been manipulated by all sides through the whole story. Then there is the fact that she woke Up angry, I'm pretty sure that the sound those Covers were making was Aimed at pissing her off so that it would be easier for Ragyo to manipulate her.
Have we been watching the same show? Ryuuko never experienced any of those things, not until very recently. She's been pretty much alone her whole life since her father sent her off to a boarding school and she had to fend for herself there. She had a shitty life with no friends, her father abandoning her and people alienating and bullying her. Then her father died and left her with stuff she was SORELY unprepared to deal with. Satsuki was preparing for 10 years, she had a purpuse and determination. Ryuuko was just thrown into the whole situation with no prior knowledge.
Yes she is egoistic, yes she is a hothead, but that's what life made her. Besides she isn't even egoistic. The rant she had at Senketsu? It was pretty much aimed at "Don't follow me" as she went on a suicide mission against Ragyo and Nui. Deep down she probably knew she was not coming back from that one and thought she will at least take out the big bads.
My friend, teenagers KILL THEMSELVES over dumb stuff like being dumped or not being liked by someone or failing some tests. That's nowhere NEAR the level of stuff Ryuuko found out.
Yes Satsuki is awesome but she is not the hero. Ryuuko is a hero in a more classical sense, a flawed, hurt human being who is struggling to overcome their weaknesses to achieve something. Satsuki is awesome but has little to no development, Ryuuko is flawed and weak but she is trying to grow and overcome her situation.
