Description Ok, since I get so many questions about tutorials and vides - here's an overdue tutorial of my Museum painting. I know it's not that exciting and that it's a bit out of date but I hope this will answer at least some of your questions!

And btw, it is BIG so it's probably best to download and browse on your computer.

Stay tuned!

That was great, thank you! I'm trying to learn how to render environments, and though more architectural stuff is kind of daunting to me, this helps put it in perspective a little bit when you break it down to simple elements. Love your work!

Wow, good general advice. I certainly learned a thing or two such as the image flipping for a fresh perspective. Thanks

Highly insightful, though the dependence upon perspective in environmentals like this scares me a bit.

How long did it take you to get a grip on perspective, Mr. Wallin?

very educational, im curious though, do you use the brush at 100% opacity or do you change it varying on the situation? i notice solid brush strokes in some areas of your work especially when you speed paint but at a lower opacity. im trying to get into this kind of art as it is my favorite so any tips will help.. im the type that researches and theorizes before completing a task.

You make it sound easy, but having recently begun my escapade into the confusing world of photoshop, I believe either the image was actually absolutely huge when you did it, added to LOTS of zooming, or you have a very fine hand with your work. I suspect both. Your work is exquisite It has a fineness to its detail that makes me both shake with astonishment at the thought of the time, effort, and fury you must have placed in this work, and wriggle with excitement at the thought of maybe being this good I love Concept art and design. And I love your work

That's amazing work. You could have told me it was an airbrushed render, and I'd have believed you.

Even if you did use a 3d program, this would be a great way to get the pre-visualization done quick, so you know what you want before you put it into a true render.

This is just like a sacred book to me
I hope to be able to use photoshop properly some day...
I'll need photoshop before that happens though

Still, this work is neat and sure is useful, I think. I love the fact you say stuff like 'this was wrong so I did this instead', it really makes it feel like we're going trough the whole creation thing, unlike the tutorials where it's only a 'you should do this and that' and that's all. Yup, neat...(as ev'rything else)

This one should be great heheh.

You need to do more of these ^^ Even if they are just a collection of saves!

Not that I want to push you ^^

Maybe next one's an outdoor one? Your paintings are so render-realistic, it's kind of scary. I want to harness that ability too ^^

For me it will be many years, but in the past I have broken some walls. I feel someday, someday I can ^^

Haven't looked around your gallery yet, but two things: what resolution do you typically start to work at, as far as pixel amounts go? And, are you using texture filters at all in these, or are you relying on lassoing down areas?

Your recent DD caught my eye, but it's this that I have to add to my favourites because I LOVE tutorials on digital art.
This is brilliantly done and very helpful and informative for a beginner like myself.
I'm sure this will help me with interiors for future pieces. (Backgrounds and interiors are something I really struggle with)
Thank you so much for making this.

Thanks for this tutorial. We talked before about unsharp mask. But now I understand that u use the unsharp mask a couple of times in a row with a low setup? Am i right?

how do you create textures?

how do you create interesting respective?
how do you know how light hits everything?
do you used textures? 3ds? anything besides?

i didn't really find this helpful
and this image looks extremely 3d BTW.

Where in the process of this painting do you see 3d? I think if you read his explanations it should be fairly clear how he achieved the clean and accurate edges.
I am not quite sure what you expect, I don't think he can teach us all he knows about light and perspective within one piece
