Description *EDIT*- Sorry, I'll have to correctly format the file so DA will accept it. Hang in there!

Here's a sneek peak at my Animation final MIMES, which will make it's premiere at my school in May. This is only a test, as you can see. It was quickly put into AfterEffects, so there's no refining of anything. This is just a test to see how it will look when it is finished.

The Instructor at the end is voiced by my dad. I did the drawings this past week, but the coloring took the LONGEST to do (6 hours!).

The background is painted by hand with acrylic.

I really love it but would it be ok if you put a download buttom at the start because it keeps stopping and starting! I would really appreciate it! Love to see more animation from you!

Anywho, you've really improved in your animation skills a lot. Great work!

Holy cats, that talking guy is fantastic! Fabulous gestures and lip-synch, it looks great already. I like your dad's voice, too.

andrewk In reply to benpixen [2005-12-04 04:14:46 +0000 UTC]

Like it says, I used AfterEffects to composite everything. I drew the drawings by hand, took a digital file of them using an Oxberry, and colored them in Photoshop.

Looks very promising! I particuarly like the way you have animated to the voice. It reminds me of Psychonauts and I can't work out why... Hmm. ever played that? it's good. I like the excessive action and life you put into your pieces and they work a little better in animation than in comics tbh. good luck

I never played Physconauts. The only thing I played that had voices close to this was Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

In just that short amount of animation, one can really see the Chuck Jones influence...
The eyes and exaggerations, especially.... And there is that old time touch with painted bgs...

This will be awesome...

AnnVole [2005-12-03 04:34:38 +0000 UTC]

I love it... very good lip sync. Some one said the character's actions were too extreem for the voice but I disagree... he is a mime ... quiet voice and exagerated movements should be perfect for a professional mime. I would make him do more hand gestures while he is talking (pushing something invisable with foot slip when he says "push the boundaries of space" then pretending to fall when this invisable object is sudenly "not there". Hands over heart for "thats good" and dramatic finger pointing upwards for "all right". He should start climbing that invisable ladder when saying "clime the ladder"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andrewk In reply to AnnVole [2005-12-03 05:07:26 +0000 UTC]

That would work, if only I had changed the concept for the entire short. You see, all the mimes in this short are just regular people WORKING as mimes, so they can't really defy the laws of gravity, etc. Then, a newbie will come in which will be a REAL mime. If any character can do those things while saying that line, it would be him!

Ah, I see, mime mimics! The crowd looks a bit like mime zombies in this rough version... maybe a bit on purpose I see. Can't wait to see the finished version. I hope to get back into doing animation myself soon. I miss creating life!

I love it, those his expressions seem a tad extreme compared to your father's rather melodic and calm voice. I'd suggest re-recording it and asking him to put a little more punch in the "Alright!", or reanimate it (which would probably kill you, based on your description of how long just this small piece took).
I would so love to see Norm and Cory animated now.

How many frames did it take you to animate the Teacher?
Tell your dad that he has a cool voice.

What ever happenedd to mimes being voiceless? ^_^ j/k

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andrewk In reply to SEspider [2005-12-02 19:47:02 +0000 UTC]

It took about 75 drawings, totaling to about 200 frames.

They're voiceless when they're on the job. These are just regular guys working as mimes.

My god the animation is superb! The fluidity on that guy talking is of amazingly high standard...I'm envious!

The background and the guy talking seems to have gotten oddly mixed together, but I think that's just the format of the file or my compy doesn't like it...but never the less it shows some amazing animation technique!
