Description Before you read this don't get me wrong. I love wolves. They're my second favorite animal. However I do not think they're some kind of god, nor do I think they are better then any other animal in the animal kingdom. Im tired of wolfaboos giving wolves and wolf fans a bad name. One of the arguments by wolfaboos I hate the most is that OMG WOLFES ARE LIKE, THE MOST MISUNDERSTOOD CREATURES EVA! Wrong! I can list a ton of animals more misunderstood then wolves. Here are some.

*WARNING: I am not trained in the medical profession. All medical information provided is gathered out of research, and others input. Don't take any medical information over the internet as truth until you see a trained medical professional.*

*SECOND WARNING: Please learn how to humanely keep away or catch wild animals, never touch, or pick one up yourself.*

(Note: Personally I think it's quite idiotic that I have to point the above warnings out. It's called common sense.)

Actual endagered species: This is more directed at the people who only care for grey wolves. While I'm not stating that there aren't endangered or near endangered species of wolves out there, many wolfaboos tend to go on and on about their precious wolfs, and disregard the many other endangered species. Only caring enough to save one species is not helping the problem.

Mice and Rats: Stepped on, Trapped, or killed in some way because they are seen as disgusting, disease carrying pests.

Frogs, Snakes, and Lizards

Certain species of insects: For example how many times have you devoted your time to a praying mantis, a leaf bug, ants, bees, locusts, or even cockroaches? Have you ever stopped to think, hmm maybe they aren't as ugly or disgusting after all. Or maybe that they can be actually helpful
*One insect that is misunderstood is the Earwig. People thought it'd climb into your ear just because it's hind wings is shaped like a human ear. They can't even get to our brains because of our skulls

They'd rather live in rotten fruit*

Raccoons and Opossums

Skunks and Pigs: I put these two together because they are both misunderstood for the same reason. People think that all skunks and all pigs stink all the time. False! Pigs are actually very clean animals. And skunks only spray that strong stench when they are scared. Normally they do not stink.

Camels- One misconception about camels, is that they will spit at you any chance they get. Camels actually do not spit frequently. Camels live in qute a harsh environment, they can spit and they can live for long periods of time without water

Jellyfish. People think that jellyfish are constantly targetting us like terrorists. FACT IS, we keep going into THEIR territory.

Mink. I've heard "But we have to make them into fur coats, they're vicious!" And I've gotta say that carnivores are supposed to be vicious, it's part of the food chain.

Crows & Ravens. People think that they bring bad luck and are just plain evil (for being black). Fact is, crows are intelligent and they are scavengers, so they don't usually kill anything. They also eat beetles that destroy lawns in my area, quite helpful eh?

Kiwi bird. People think they're extinct, but they're not. And this kind of ignorance is preventing the Kiwi from getting off the endangered list.

Piranha. They attack people because they have their eggs in the areas where people decide to swim. They're just being over-protective of their small-fry.

Sharks. Many people still regard sharks as nothing but mindless eating machines that enjoy human flesh when in fact they'd prefer not to eat us as we're not fat-enriched enough compared to seals etc. and have proven to be most intelligent animals capable of learning.

Chimpanzees. People hate these creatures purely based on looks. Chimpanzees are in fact one of the most(if not the most) intelligent creatures in the animal kingdom.

Crocodiles- People think they are the devil of Africa.

Bats- With the take off of vampires as horror villains, most people see bats as nothing more than blood sucking villainess creatures, who are only out to harm you. In reality, bats are actually very shy creatures. They're more like bumble bees in the since of "if you don't bother them, they won't bother you". Contrary to popular belief, only a few bats actually suck blood, and even then, it's not from humans, but from animals. Also contrary to popular belief, very few bats actually carry rabies. Bats are very intelligent creatures and are also very important for our environment because they eat insects, and some even pollinate plants.

African Wild Dogs- They hunt by tearing their prey's stomach open and as terrible as it sounds, it actually provides a quicker death. Unfortunately people don't see this and think they vicious butchers.

Hyenas- Typically they're seen as dirty scavengers and thieves, when they actually do hunt for themselves.

Arachnids: Tarantulas for example, are believed to be so poisonous that they could kill you. Tarantula bites are actually no greater than that of a bee sting. For the most part, you can treat wounds at home. However, the one exception is that some are allergic to tarantula bites. In this case an immediate trip the hospital is necessary (note if you are bitten for the first time, and do not know if your allergic or not, visit the hospital, and look out for the symptoms.
(On another note, taratulas among other spiders are also great for pest control)

Porcupines: People believe they can shoot their quills. This of course isn't true. Say the prime example of a dog sniffing them, a porcupine can release them if that dog brings its snout a little too close.

Eels: People think they are just out to zap people (comment). In all actuality, eels are not usually aggressive. However, they are hard of seeing, which can explain a lot. (Valasco, T. 2003. Suggestions are always good.

Most store bought mice and rats do not carry disease

Snakes only attack when they are fearful, or if they smell food. Snakes are are not blind but still do not see well so they do seem to attack for no reason but this is not true. Most likely they smell the scent of their food and will attack wherever that smell is coming from.

Insects in the wild will go wherever they smell food. Would I let insects roam my house, no. However pet insects are usually kept in some kind of housing and not roaming free so your reasoning is false.

People need to get over their fear and educate themselves on an animal before they make assumptions.

I agree however like the fear that used to be (and sometimes still is) for black cats that is now gone in most people, crows and blackbirds need to have the same.

Racoons and Opossums that carry rabies or are protecting themselves have a right to be feared. However normally they are just curious or hungry and have no need to be feared as long as the person stays at a safe distance. The problem comes when people are so fearful of these animals that getting rid of them from getting into your garbage or pets food many times is inhumane.

Skunks like I had said before only spray in when their scared and most pet skunks (note I do not condone keeping wild animals like skunks as pets) have their glands removed. Pigs are thought to be like I said dirty and messy creatures when they are actually cleaner and in some cases smarter then the average dog (note again I do not condone keeping a pig as a pet unless there is enough space and they are allowed to live like a pig, not like a dog, not like a cat, but a pig).

1. I wasn't talking about store bought mice as you didn't mention that AT ALL.
2. why are you bringing facts into this? I was stating stuff I learned ages ago. No need to be a smart-alek.
I hate when people have to be so smarty and over the silliest things. And maybe all those animals are disliked for a reason. How many girls do you know that have pet bugs, like skunks and pigs and snakes? I don't know any at all...

The stamp was only to prove that wolves are not the most misunderstood creatures. Wether or not someone likes an animal is their opinion. However I do not like people who hate an animal and are uneducated about that animal.

It's not exactly that they aren't the most misunderstood it's just that they are misunderstood as well, no? And i don't you think that if you like animal you should care more about it than others? No matter how extinct they are? I dunno, just my oppinion.^^
:/ Nothing much you can do to change a person, huh?

I don't mind people who like you does not treat an animal as some sort of god. The stamp itself is directed toward wolfaboos, not wolf lovers.

RATS - Have you ever had a rat as a pet? They are amazing from what I have heard and should hold the title of "Man's best friend" Intelligent, very easy to feed, cuddly, and they can protect you like a dog, most rat bites that go untreated get infected. All rat bites hurt like hell, and a very small percent of bites are even fatal.

CROWS- Associated with witchcraft, demons and other dark stuff, Edger Allen Poe as awesome as he was, recognized the intelligence of these birds. THEY CAN TALK LIKE A PARROT. And do like the vultures and clean up corpses.

RATTLE SNAKES- "They are all out to get you!" Nope, Rattle snakes are very "kind" as far as snakes go, if you mess with one, it rattles, keep going, a fake bite, keep going, a non venomous bite, and if you are still "Sofa king stupid" they inject venom. Unless you step on them/hurt them. Furthermore, all venomous snakes save a few, are not very aggressive. Hence, if I was to get a venomous snake as a pet would be a Rattle snake, and I say keep them in the desert.

Copper heads- Snakes again, but this kind of snake I have studied in the wild. Everyone claims they are aggressive. They are far from it, most of the time they take off into the water. They only seem to use there venom on Prey. That are fish. The amazing hunting tactic is to charge at the fish, inject venom, get it OUT of the water, then run away, once the fish stops flailing,(And potentaily harming the frail snake) they eat it. I was five feet away from one doing this and it was so cool. :3

Pirannah (sp?) -They attack people because they have their eggs in the areas where people decide to swim. They're just being over-protective of their small-fry.

Cougars -They're like the feline equivalent of wolves, but often seen in a more negative light.

And many more....

People actually think kiwis are extinct? Guess they missed all those BBC docs with kiwi footage. Then again, most wolfaboos don't watch anything besides Balto and Hannah Montana.

Yeah, when I mention the kiwi, people say "OMG arent dey extinkt?!" attitude.
Curious, if wolves are what wolfaboos care about, why would they watch HM?

Because the vast majority are teenagers who like rather cheaply made sitcoms. In fact, artwork by wolfaboos indicates a taste for the bad Air Buddy sequels

I hate the Air Buddies films. I used to be a big fan of the Air Bud fans when I was younger and those films ruined it for me.
