Description
I was home today because I wasn't feeling too well and I worked on this almost the whole entire time (after finishing my homework, of course)
My showjumping entry for the SVI Equi-Canine 2015 by MistyofSunrise
I just remembered the show jacket rule....
>>STORY<<
Rush stood by Neo quietly, glancing around at the large show arena with all the different 1.3 metre jumps. He could feel a small bit of nerve gnawing away at his stomach, whether he wanted to admit it or not, but he definitely wouldn't let it get to his head. Neo was already jittery enough as it was. Outside it was chilly, though not nearly as cold as it could get in Canada during the winter, and there was a small bit of frost and snow collected on the arena windows and sills. The rays from the setting sun filtered through weakly, though the arena was still brightly lit. There were holiday decorations all around the arena; large stars were hung up on the white side wall, with pine and Christmas ornaments lining the side, the sill outside in the snow, and some of the jumps. Small, brightly-coloured lights hung along the wall, not big enough to catch a horse's attention, and medium-sized wreaths were strung up around the arena. Rush stayed silent, his eyes flicking along the arena one last time to make sure he'd really seen everything during the walk-through, and he jumped when Joachim came to stand by him.
"Hey," he huffed, glancing at him briefly.
"Are you nervous?" Joachim asked curiously, peering at him in surprise.
"A little," Rush chuckled. He'd tied his hair back under his helmet so it would definitely stay out of the way (unlike some other shows where it had gotten in his eyes), and Joachim had been inspecting him for a little while now because of it.
"Do I really look that weird?" Rush sighed when his boyfriend started it again, and Joachim grinned sheepishly.
"No," he said. He pulled something from his jacket pocket, and held it up over their heads. Rush glanced up.
"Mistletoe. Right, how original," he grumbled, pretending he wasn't as pleased as he felt about it. Joachim grinned, and leaned forward, kissing him. Neo, who'd been mostly ignoring them, looked over and nudged Rush's face, puffing warm horse breath all over the two. Rush shot him a look, pulling away, then sighed, adjusting his shirt. It was comfortably warm inside the arena, and all the short-sleeved shirts probably served for a weird sight out in the cold. Finally it was time for Rush to mount, and he pulled down his stirrups. He checked all his tack one last time, then mounted from the ground, taking up the reins. So far, he was the only Appaloosa in sight; only Thoroughbreds and Dutch Warmbloods around, and he chuckled to himself. Joachim touched his boot, which he had polished extra thoroughly, and grinned up at him.
"Good luck," he said. Rush leaned down and pecked his forehead, which was the only spot he could reach, then walks on to go and warm up before he had to ride his round.
