Description A little sketch I did of Tibetan Pleistocene fauna, after a few Discord discussions
A coalition of male cave lions (Panthera spelaea) have freshly caught a chiru (Panthalops hodgsoni), while the rest of the herd grazes in the back. Further is a woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta sp.) and some yak (Bos mutus).

Not much research has gone into the Pleistocene fauna of Tibet, but we do know there were hyenas there at times, and that it was the birthplace of the woolly rhinoceros, a few different species within Coelodonta.Β
Did the cave lion inhabit Tibet? Possibly - given that the hyena (Crocuta) lived there, and that the hyena was less tolerant of cold, high altitude habitats than the lion, the notion of Tibetan lions is not impossible. Of course, maybe prey densities were too low for such a large cat, but it remains a possibility.

Interestingly, woolly mammoth remains have been found as south as Qinghai, so perhaps they also inhabited Tibet?

Or, perhaps the environment was too harsh - even breathing is difficult in those regions.
