I have a question, do you know how to manipulate .avi files on MMD? You know when you are going to trace that video and you want to resize, move (zoom in/out) the video so that you could trace if perfectly?

Are you having trouble getting the avi file into to the MMD background folder or are you having trouble loading an avi file into MMD?

Find where you put MMD on your comp and move the avi file from it's current location into UserFile > BackGround.

I can't get my avi files to open.
The file I'm trying to open is on the desktop, and I've converted it many different ways but none work.

Antiqu-Bakery In reply to KamiyaxKenshin [2012-05-23 08:37:44 +0000 UTC]
The file must have it's audio removed and if needed it's codec changed to Microsoft Video 1, the only codec that MMD can open.

KamiyaxKenshin In reply to Antiqu-Bakery [2012-05-23 18:33:43 +0000 UTC]
To remove the audio, this probably sounds stupid, but could I just open it in WMM and lower the volume there and resave it?

Antiqu-Bakery In reply to KamiyaxKenshin [2012-05-23 18:46:14 +0000 UTC]
Yes, your responce was very stupid.
Get VideoPad or something that is actually capable of removing audio saving in another codec.
If not I just would like to reply any further, nothing personal.

now that its on the background, how do you get it on a small screen like a tv?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Antiqu-Bakery In reply to KawaiiMMDRookie [2012-03-25 06:47:39 +0000 UTC]
There is only one secret to making an avi file visible on a small surface area like a telly.
The secret is having "screen.bmp" written in the layers texture option.

Antiqu-Bakery In reply to KawaiiMMDRookie [2012-03-26 06:11:19 +0000 UTC]
But please keep in mind, this does not work with layers that already have a texture.

Not that I should be the one answering, but try using Keepvid -[link] it's simple, easy, and you can turn the video into anything, mp3, mp4....etc. All you need is the youtube url!

Quite a few people ask this so I use previously written (by me) copy-paste to respond to this question.
No worries to answer your question; Animating dances takes a long time, are you sure you want to make the choreography too?
There are two ways to do this, you can either trace an existing dance/original choreography or you can load music into MMD and animate according to the sound, either way depending on how new to animation you are I'd suggest tracing as it requires less mental power to complete.
For tracing you will need a few things like a camera to record with/video downloader (I recomend Free YouTube Download ), a video editing program to remove the sound (I recommend VideoPad ), a low poly model and MMD.(The audio can be added later.)
~Camera~
Step 1: Make up the choreography, record yourself dancing it and load it into your comp.
Step 2: Open VideoPad and the folder you saved the video to, drag and drop the video to Videopad and load it.
Step 4: Remove the audio by right clicking on the audio track and selecting 'Unlink sound Clip(s)', select the separated audio track and press 'Delete' on your keyboard.
Step 5: Go to 'File' - 'Save Movie', make sure the compressor is Microsoft video 1 and out-put file type avi, save file.
Step 6: Open in MMD and trace.
~With downloaded video~
Step 1:Go to YouTube and find a video you want to trace.
Step 2: Now that you have chosen the video you wish to trace, open Free YouTube Download and copy paste the url into the white space with the text "Copy a YouTube link and paste it here" and wait for the download to check the link and click 'download'.
Step 3: Open VideoPad and the folder you saved the video to, drag and drop the video to Videopad and load it.
If there are still problems with the video file after re-saving the movie with VideoPad please try re-ripping the video and converting it to .flv before re-saving in VideoPad.
