Hello Guys!
As some of you might noticed already, there is a new Thermoplast Material on the market! Its called Cosplayflex. As I couldnt wait I tested it in comparison to worbla's finest Art!
To see the Picture in fullsize click on it -> right klick -> Show Graphic -> left mouse click and it should be big now!
I put the same effort in both "Leafes" to have a real compare but before I got to say:
Cosplayflex...
• is lighter
• is slightly cheaper (1 x 0.75m = 28€ / Worbla = 31€)
• easier to cut with a scissor (like thick paper)
• softer than worbla when heated
• getting soft with less heat so the pieces itselve doesnt get too hot
• longer formable
• slightly smoother surface
• lighter basic color
Back to the Picture:
1 • Sandwich!
2 • since Cosplayflex is getting softer than worbla it was much easier to cut it out and to get spiky ends. So overall it was easier to keep more details.
3 • Formed both leafes, I had to heat cosplayflex about 2 seconds from both sides and worbla about 3-4 seconds from both sides.
Both of them were easy to form!
4 • I used the restpieces to make those small balls. It was easy with both materials but since cosplayflex doesnt need so much heat it was more pleasant to form the balls with my hands.
5 • I tried some stuff with color. The upper part it without any primer but with ONE layer of color. The lower part got covered with one layer of woodglue + one layer of color. By the lighter main color of Cosplayflex the acrylic paint looks much brighter. But I dont know yet how the effect will be with more layers of primer smile emoticon
Overall, I simply love worbla and Im glad that it exist, still Im always looking for more opportunities and techniques to work on my costumes. My conclusion is that it was clearly easier for me to work with Cosplayflex and so I will try to build more pieces out of cosplayflex in the future smile emoticon (still I need to empty my worbla stock first :,D)
Cosplayflex is available here: www.cosplayflex.com/
(as far as I understood its shippable to the EU!)
