Lifeless? I hope you didn't mean the seal e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Lick)" /> Anyway, this is a pretty nice portrait of a fine animal. The composition isn't half bad, even though I would have preferred to see a little bit more of the animal itself. You did a great job on the focus and depth of field though, you really have an eye for that. Especially with the black and white alteration that you added, you're really getting places.
The funny thing is though, that I think much of your talent lies in composing a shot, which is why you do abstracts so well. (usually e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="Wink/Razz" />) Shooting a life creature and including it into your frame is a whole different ballgame, especially a wonderful expressive creature like this. (You just can't resist those big black eyes

" title="
(Lick)" />) Where-ever they go, they'll take center-stage, even if you compose them to the side. This causes a certain ... dis chord in this particular work. I wonder how other photos of the day may have turned out

Thanks a lot mate!
I understand your desire to see more of the seal, and yes, I could show more, but originally this picture was slanted, and quite heavily too, I'll need to make sure that doesn't happen again!
That is a very interesting point about the eyes needing to take centre stage, I could not agree more, a valuable tip, which I shall certainly embed into my skull!
This was taken in Blakeney Point, Norfolk, England, 7 miles of deserted beach and a large untouched seal colony. I think it is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

first off the title pisses me off. you have an animal in it and you call it lifeless?! but its so cute plus there's a reason they call it wildLIFE lol ok so moving on from my rant.
you cut off the seal a bit. which makes me sad and the... shade (?i was gonna say color but there is none) could have been brought out more (not by contrast, its... different)
and another thing - don't keep adding grain to really really beautiful works liek this! it makes momo sad D:. seal needs no grain. seal does not eat sand xD. i know you love it but there are times when i wish you would save it for a less potentially impacting shot.
otherwise i really like this. you dont take that many pictures of animals so this is a nice change. (i hate being girly and loving my cute animals >< you know im a fan of your photography and even though this isn't your best, i still like seeing it

The dark eyes with no detail, gives the portrait atmosphere and a moody feeling. Title is a bit emo though, I will agree.

true but you should have a happy title if not for the simple fact you cannot resist a face that looks like this :3

Always resize your images before uploading. dA resizes all photos and does it in a very poor manner. You lose sharpness and slight amounts of colour.

I do.
But I will look out for this in the future- cheers, bud.

This is great, but I really think the grain makes it less good, rather than better.

Thanks, grain to me is noise to someone else.

I think it's a pity to add grain on this one. In my opinion the grain does not suit the fur of the seel. It becomes too clumpsy for a picture where the details are important. I think I would go for a blurry background instead.

My grain is anothers noise.
I see what you mean though, but I think it fits well, but maybe that is because of a personal experience. Can you see the cuts on his skin?

Hmm. No I do not see any cuts?
You know, what destroys the experience in my case? The whiskers! If you hadn't added the grain the whiskers would be sharper and add a sense of depth. Right now this is a flat landscape to me.

Yes I have many seal photos, but I am too lazy to look at them now, maybe I will edit some later.
