Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

This photo is superbly composed, with a stunning visual impact when you first look at it - However I fear that without an obvious focal point, once the impact of the curves wears off the photo seems...lifeless, more like a texture than a photo, one way to do this would be to get a wider shot, with some landscape either side, then crop it 16:9 so the photo has some rule of turds which draws the eye into the centre more.

It's late, I have maths exams in 8 hours, this sounds harsher than it should. The combination of the straight shutters and curved contours of the building really make for an impact, and the shutter show off the contrasting between the lighting - giving the shadows much more depth...without overblowing them. Good job e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

Interesting analysis, especially about the photo turning into a texture, great point.
As for lacking a clear focal point, I disagree slightly, the window draws my eye nicely, then around the other shutters. But my problem would be the photo is not really an attention holder...
I'll try re-working it, giving it a landscape crop could add some scale, yet probably will not upload it to dA, this is my square shrine.

the curving lines don't lead the eye away from the frame because of the shadow in the middle. this one isn't bad either. i guess i just dont take pictures of buildings. often so i can't appreciate architecture as much >< however you do put a different light on it for me

I hate critiques
sorry
just do

this is a wonderful work
one of the better ones submitted to the club

there will ALWAYS be a reason why not to like something. i have a problem with ever putting myself in that position. once you do, you're trapped

be careful

love this piece

Thank you ever so much! I try to look at my work objectively so I understand what I have done wrong and improve, but your advice is sound, good advice indeed.

self examination of the work is ALWAYS needed...knowing the "rules" too.

when you know human expectations...impact, composition, color, tones, motif, story.....
you (I) work toward those goals holistically, not one piece at a time

if we examine a piece to find its weakest element(s)...we cannot discern the trees from the forest. most critiques tell you how another artist would have made the work...if you wish to be that person in your work that is fine...or if just a part, that is fine I suppose
as well, I find many critiques making suggestions to include more or less etc...as if they were there to see that it was even possible...maybe more was not possible without disaster to the work.

I'll be quiet now

It leads to the middle, so there's were my eyes were focused to before i saw the open shutters..

See, I thought you'd managed to spy something through windows.

But this is arguably better. Good job with the mesmerising lines. I don't believe it leads out on the left, either. So lucky you!
