Description

Hey everyone!  It's been a while since I've made a Pokemon. I really enjoyed making this guy and I love how he turned out!  I'm planning on making the other starter Pokemon as well and maybe re-making Pikachu?  We shall see.

So this pattern is pretty similar to my "Derpy Pooh" pattern   but with some changes and of course the addition of the bulb (Is it just me or does it totally look like garlic?).  He ended up being about 6 inches long.  All the details (eyes, spots, claws) are needle felted on and I managed not to stab myself this time!

As usual, let me know if I've made any errors!  And since I don't own this character, please don't sell the finished product and please credit me should you use or reference this pattern!  Much appreciated and happy crocheting!

-Dec around in inner loops only (6)
-FO (Sew opening shut but avoid touching the outer loops that will be used in Step 2)

Step 2: (This step is for the leaves at the top of the bulb.  Holding the bulb upside down, work in the outer loops of the second to last row from Step 1)

-Sc around (12)
-[Sl st, hdc inc] around (18) <--This step makes the leaves at the top of the bulb wavy
-FO

Note:  After attaching the bulb to the body, I stretched yarn over the surface to divide it into 6 segments.  I chose to use 2 strands of yarn twisted together so it would be more stable, but whatever works!

I'm having trouble with the dividing of the segments, how did you do it so nicely and neatly?

Do you maybe have a tutorial or where you learned to needle felt parts into amigurumi dolls?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StygianChild In reply to joannerrrzx3 [2015-04-17 03:18:20 +0000 UTC]

felting is pretty straight forward.
get the needles. I recommend a coarse and a fine just in case one doesn't want to work ( happened to me).
Lay the wool on the yarn and stab into the yarn. If doing an ear ( like flareon or someone) don't stab all the way thru, but make sure you stab past the little barbs on the needle. those are what makes it stick. And just keep poking all over the felt until it sticks. keep poking if you want it to lay flatter and i just cut the random little ends sticking way out cuz the bothered me.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask for more questions or more specifics.

Im at the needle felting stage and asked my mom for help there and she says I used the wrong yarn for the wool to stick. So what kind of yarn did you use to make the actual bulbasaur?

You're probably been asked this a dozen and half times, but what brand/colors of yarn did you use? I've been looking for colors to start this project, but none of them quite match. Thanks in advance!

I don't remember what brand I used for the body since I bought something that was on clearance, but I generally use Red Heart worsted weight yarn for most of my works.  I think I've seen the turqoise color for the body in Carol brand?

What weight of yarn did you use? Worsted? And an estimate of how much yarn you used? Whether by weight or yards

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aphid777 In reply to LilPiggie [2015-01-08 02:25:56 +0000 UTC]

I use worsted weight yarn.  I'm not sure how much of each color I used, but they're pretty small so one roll of each color would be more than enough.

I am ready to put the bulb on. It looks so much taller and wider than all the rest of balbasaur.  I wish there was a tutorial on how you sewed the bulb on. I am not sure how you connected the two strands of yarn on for the 6 segments of the bulb. I am guessing you left an opening in the bottom of the bulb to fit the yarn through. I hope you could help me understand how you did it, thanks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aphid777 In reply to Amigugirl22 [2014-08-12 00:51:50 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, I'm not too sure how to explain it better  The bulb is worked from the bottom up.  I didn't stuff the bulb too much so that I could sew it against his back more easily and it wouldn't look too big.  As for the segments, I strung yarn through and tightened it to create indentations and just did this all around.  When you loop the yarn through the bulb enough times, it should be pretty stable and you can just hide the cut ends of yarn inside the bulb after you're done creating all the segments.

I'm pretty sure the bulb was Red Heart.  For the body, I got some turquoise yarn on sale somewhere.. I don't remember the brand anymore  But I think it's a pretty common color and if it's worsted weight yarn, then you should be good to go

aphid777 In reply to SassyCassy324 [2014-05-23 19:16:02 +0000 UTC]

The hole for the body should be where the neck connects to the head, so the seam should be towards the head.  Hope that helps!

I didn't stuff the bulb too much so it could be pushed against Bulbasaur's back and indent inwards.  You can then just sew it in whatever position you want to get the shape you want.  There's some room for flexibility
