Description My final project from my Design and Composition class last semester.

It's a reimagining of Boticelli's "Birth of Venus." The shapes inspired by Henri Matisse's works, especially "Swimming Pool" and his "Blue Nude" series.

The assignment was to create our own paint chips, and use at least 18 colors swatches and arrange them in some apparent gradiating order. The gradiation on my piece is a bit circular, and more subtle.

This is my favorite piece of all I've done. It's now encased in a shadow box and overlooking my bedroom.

Gorgeous. I can distinctly see the Botticelli roundness in there, and for some reason I adore that she's faceless...

it's a reimagining of "Birth of Venus" by Botticelli. yes, a Renaissance painting, with the goddess on a shell.

i'm not as familiar with his other works, but i love "Birth of Venus," and Greek Mythology in general.

I'm want to go to Europe to see the real thing. heeeheee... i'm excited.

Primavera's gorgeous. I saw it at the Uffizi gallery in Florence. Oh my... it was amazing. I brought home a print from the gallery store. I wish I could have carted a larger print home on the plane.

I really like the figure form that you gave to venus here. She's not what has become the generalized idealization of the perfect woman--one with large breasts, yet an unnaturally slender figure. Rather, you gave her average-sized breasts. You gave her plump thighs. You gave her a human side, and that's why I love this piece. Bravo! You should be proud.

:hugs: thank you.
i'm glad you saw the shape difference. that was intentional, because i wanted to show that the female body can be beautiful in any shape and size. Plus, Matisse exagerated his figures a lot in simmilar ways, though in more angular shapes. I picked up his rounded shapes and exagerrated the body contours.

i'm glad you like it. thank you.
