One of the comments left on my last submission suggested that I should draw the other combatant in the story I was illustrating; Ed. The bug bit so, of course, I had to do it.In the story, 'Shades of Gold' , Ed is 30, Al is 29. The previous illo was supposed to illustrate a scene from the fic, but the story mutated after I finished the original lineart. It didn’t match the fic anymore, but I still figured it was worth finishing. This piece was drawn to balance out the Al pic and is thereby even more removed from the original fic than that one was, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Strangely, he was a LOT harder to make older than Al was. When I tried to do a Hoenheim looking Ed, he just didn't come out sexy! This pic is about 95% 18 year old Ed and 5% Hoenheim - because that's as 'Hoenheim' as I could make and still have him attractive. At least to me. *blush* Oh dear. What would Trisha say? *gasp*

nice job with the anatomy, I find people have a hard time showing muscle with out making the character look like armstrong XD You did well. Although I would prefer a but more shaking around his abs like you did with his arms. The arm on the left for sure, you go the translucency of his skin just right ;D That's not an easy thing to do at all! great work, I look forward to more in the future!

As for the abs shading - every time I tried adding more shading to them, I didn't like the result. It made it look like the sun was coming from a higher angle than sunset, so in the end I just left it as a hint of the color. Shadows are my downfall - LOL! But I'm glad you enjoyed the picture anyway!

i know what you mean, they are very hard, but I'm sure with practice you'll master them! You already have a lot of skill! Abs are one of the most difficult things to draw/shade, I have trouble with them all the time >< Keep at it though, I want to see more!

Thanks! I do a lot better when I have something in front of me to reference, though the computer makes it so that, even where I'm having to improvise, it doesn't look quite so obviously unreferenced. The very nice male physique I used as reference on this piece (Bruce Lee) had the shadows coming from two directions and though it provided a great reference for the muscles and fists, I had to guess at the shadows - maybe with practice I'll get more confident of my guesses! Thanks!

for sure you will, it will jut click for you one day and you'll wonder how you weren't able to do it before. =] I'm a BIG supporter of reference, though I don't use them much any more as I should XD too lazy, plus I like to make up weird poses I can't find online lol

I hear you! LOL! I looked EVERYWHERE for a reference for someone standing this way - so that I could draw a delicious butt! I could find NO nice butts and had to settle for making his hip less turned thereby hiding his behind his hip. The version I tried to improvise the first time was, as my beta called it, a 'bubble butt'. It was totally improvised, but I had to do that if I wanted him to be in this classic karate stance. In the end, I had to agree with my beta, it didn't look right and I changed his position to make it so I didn't have to have the 'bubble butt'. *pout*

XD I have the opposite butt problem when I was drawing superman xD My little sister kept telling me he needed more butt! So she came over and drew two half circles XD it was beautiful. Butts, well, guy butts are hard to draw >< Ed always had a nice butt in the FMA manga though <3 haha now I'm just thinking of hyper detailed super man with bubble buns xD

Thanks! I worked a LONG time to get the parts right. You wouldn't believe how long it took me to get his butt right. You'd think SOMEONE out there would have a good butt to reference, but NOOOOOO...
