One of the comments left on my last submission suggested that I should draw the other combatant in the story I was illustrating; Ed. The bug bit so, of course, I had to do it.In the story, 'Shades of Gold' , Ed is 30, Al is 29. The previous illo was supposed to illustrate a scene from the fic, but the story mutated after I finished the original lineart. It didnβt match the fic anymore, but I still figured it was worth finishing. This piece was drawn to balance out the Al pic and is thereby even more removed from the original fic than that one was, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Hi, I just wanted you to know that this picture and the fic it comes from are great! I know it's been a long while since you updated the story, but I just wonder whether you're gonna continue it someday or not! Let me know, 'cause I really enjoyed the two chapters

It's so great that someone is reading that story! Β Actually, I have another chapter written and I very much plan on finishing it, but I got to this impasse that is just driving me nuts! Β I've got one last scene to do before I can publish it but I just can't seem to get it to work.
Seriously, knowing someone is reading it is a great impetus to getting me to work on the story. Β It's all plotted out and I know where I am going after this point - I just have to get past it!

I really appreciate your encouragement. Β I've not looked at it much over the holidays, but my beta is helping me get over my block so that we can continue with the story. Ah! Thank you! I worked on this for a really long time and, to tell the truth, I think the one I did of Alphonse just before this is truer to the original and is a better 'grown up' than this piece - but whenever I tried to make Ed older, using his father as an example, he just didn't look attractive. Since I'd rather have an attractive Ed than one that looks like his dad, I kind of had to compromise. But, I'm glad you like it anyway.

Oh this is just gorgeous! I am so happy you decided to do another illustration for your Al piece. You did a really nice job on this whole thing, the lighting is beautiful and Ed looks completely like himself. (I am happy to see that the scars are there as well.

Oh, I couldn't forget the scars! They make him so angsty! *drool* Yeah, I wasn't sure about it at first. When I tried to 'age' him as I had Al, I figured I had young 'father' and Hoenheim himself as examples, but every time I tried to make him look more like one of them, he just wasn't attractive. The most important part is making him attractive (at least to me) so I guess I'll just have to assume he ages gracefully. LOL!

Aging Ed was more of a challenge. You would think it would be easy, since we know what young 'father' and Hoenheim look like, but every time I tried to mix in either of those looks, it no longer looked like Ed. And it looked a lot less appealing. In the end I put together something that was about 95% 18 y.o. Ed and 5% Hoenheim - it looks more mature and yet is still identifiably Ed. Glad you appreciate it!

How did that review I did work for you? I haven't spoken to you since I sent that along and now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I even remember you saying you got it. Did you get it? Thank you! I was REALLY pleased with the way this background came out. I sampled the colors of an actual sunset photo for the sky, roughy mimicked a scene from a Russian pasture for the distance and sketched the stone wall from one that sits between my house and the neighbor. I was thrilled with how nicely it came out and I'm thrilled that someone else liked it too!
