Description
I've been known as The Angst Maven for most of my life due to the fact that I can handle angst that would possibly kill most normal humans. You don't need blood and gore to make something angsty - you can use it, of course - but the angst I like best is situational; the kind where you pause to take a breath and the image that you take in suddenly freezes your heart....
THAT'S the kind of angst I like.
Anyway, I've been obsessing over this single scene that was never shown in the anime or manga and yet we know must have happened. In other fandoms, I've written these kinds of events into fanfics - but with FMA
The neatest thing is, I thought it would be difficult to get the look of the character right, but unlike live humans who have a million planes, angles and shapes that you must get right in order to capture them, all these anime characters have is a couple of lines! And if you didn't get it right the first time, the computer lets you move that line until you do! No smudges, no eraser burnouts and no wearing through the page! How cool is that?
Obviously, the characters portrayed in this work of fan art are not mine and all rights are reserved to
Fullmetal Alchemist (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) © Hiromu Arakawa // Square/Enix.
Thank you, Arakawa-shi.
And thank you for taking a peek.

*Squee!* You mean I'm not the only twisted soul here? Yippe!
Exactly! I was SO disappointed that we didn't get even one little glimpse of recovery Ed - I mean, what we did get was pretty darned good - but I can never get enough of this sort of thing. Give me a wounded hero and I am a happy angst maven. Check out some of my other drawings and you'll see I enjoy drawing these kinds of things very much. *blush*

Heh, exactly! It just kinda gives the show a little more... eh, I dunno the right word.
I love drawing stuff like this, even if I don't post most of it >_< I guess the one thing i've posted thats really twisted would be Red Ballon. Even if it is a FF xD

Twisted fanfic is also good. I'll have to take a look. Most of my really angsty fanfic is in LOTR and isn't on this site, but I do love a good h/c story too.

Oh, there are way worse vices to have! This one just freaks out the normals and doesn't hurt anyone. What's wrong with that?

I love this picture, it's very well done and nice, clean linework.
May I ask what 'scene that was never mentioned' you keep talking about?

I love your icon. Is he not the cutest dragon ever?
I drew the picture to illustrate what might possibly have happened after the mine shaft collapse when Darius and Heinkel get Ed to a doctor. You know he was probably still in pretty bad shape and they would probably have had to do some additional work to make sure his patchwork alchemy got all the organs back into the right places and cleaned up properly. Obviously, in the anime (Brotherhood) and manga, we never see any of Ed's recovery, he's just back on his feet two episodes later, so I created this picture to look like a snapshot from a scene where the doctor was working on getting him fixed up.
I'm afraid it's a fetish with me - check out my other artwork and you will find this a fairly common theme in my work no matter what fandom it is. *cough* I just can't resist hurt/comfort.

yes, I love scenes like that. Very rarely we see extended scenes where for example friends surround the badly hurt character, they are afraid of approaching the fallen friend for he/she can be gone, at the same time they know that they must act quickly, they don`t know if he/she is alive and later they keep watch over fallen comrade during recovery and maybe witness medical procedures, see his/her prolonged pain, have doubts if the friend will make it and so on, so on. We usully see only 5 sec of angst of fiends aproaching the fallen comrade and then another 5 sec before the character regains the conciousness and full health.

Aww, thanks! I found myself wondering what the heck happened after they got him out of the mines and my little fevered brain kept coming up with images that I knew I'd never get to see if I didn't draw them myself. This picture, which started life as a pencil sketch I couldn't leave alone, was supposed to look like a screen shot for that lost scene that's been running through my head. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I liked drawing it.
