Description
This takes place in an alternate universe of this image:In this new image that little island in the middle was never formed and the boy never found this place. Instead, there's this flying girl drawing spirals in the water...
In this new image, I changed the camera's position, angle and focal length. I changed the color of the flowers and didn't de-saturate the image, both changes to better fit the mood I wanted to convey. There are also some small changes in the light.
I used that girl in that pose (with different outfits) in two other images before. Can you find them in my gallery?
As always, this was rendered in Vue.

I suppose you're talking about the water spirals. That's a bit of water simulation in blender with finishing touches (lots of them) in zbrush.

You know I love all your work, and I ration myself so I don't overuse them as writing prompts!
This piece has such grace and beauty, calm serenity, and peaceful motion, all curling in a beautiful spiral. Technically, others can speak much better than I to your fabulous work on the trees, leaves, and reflections in the water. I love the sense of *story* in the poise of the figure, and her spiral in the water. I hope you'll enjoy what she inspired: < margaretsmcgraw.blogspot.com/2β¦ >. All the best, Margaret

Thanks a lot, Margaret! It's always such a pleasure to read your stories. They bring life to my images, they really do. I always have the strong, strange feeling that I made the image after reading your story. It's really, really strange and wonderful.
I read both books you mentioned, in my teen years, and really liked both (I hated what the movie did to that Heinlein's story). Actually, I think I read everything from Heinlein and Clarke. And Asimov and Simak and a few others.
As I was reading the last words of your story, it strongly reminded me of another image I made a long time ago. It's not in deviantArt (because it's technically a bit poor), it's only on my Facebook page. Maybe I'll make a new version in the future. Here: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbiβ¦

Thanks as always for your kind words and encouragement
Lovely image - yes, I can see why you thought of it. The way they are holding hands is exactly as I imagined.
We have similar reading tastes, or did when we were younger
I plowed through all of Heinlein and Clark, Asimov short stories and robots, but didn't connect w/Foundation. Not familiar with Simak, so I will look him up!
Thank again for all your beautiful images! Keep creating!
All the best, Margaret

Really cool. But how did you do that with the spirals in the water? Did you used splines?

ArthurBlue In reply to Osiris-sae [2013-08-11 13:00:00 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. The spirals were made on a plane in Zbrush, imported back into Vue and a water material was applied. I had to iterate these steps several times until I considered it close enough.

Spectacular work! How did you make the spiral in the water? Looks really good.

Thanks!
I've been playing with blender a bit lately and its water simulation. I still don't understand it but I followed a tutorial step by step, with a little variation. The result wasn't too good and I had to clean it up in zbrush. So, that's a mix of techniques.

A mix of techniques often gets very nice results.

I couldn't find any poses that were exactly the same, but I tried ;_;
The closest I could find in comparison were in Feel the Air and in Sky is the Limit.

I know that! It's in Rama, isn't it? Did you want to create a similar universe, or it was just to answer to me?

I'm not sure where I read that for the first time.
No, I didn't want to create a similar universe, that was just an answer. I understand what you wrote. I have a scientific mind too but science doesn't need to be present in all we do.

Damn, I agree. That's the reason I've stopped listening in math class. Maybe you'll begin to draw somethings more... fantastic?

I really like this but the girl looks out of place - maybe some motion blur?
π: 0 β©: 1
ArthurBlue In reply to airflamesred [2013-04-06 13:59:55 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. Of course she looks out of place - how many times did you see a semi-naked girl flying sideways drawing spirals in the water in the middle of a forest? The eye refuses to believe this is happening, it's too strange.
Motion blur would make it cartoonish, like a super-hero or something, and that's not my intention. Furthermore, it would bring a sense of speed that I do not wish either in this scene. In one of the other images with this girl, where she's wearing a red outfit, I applied a bit of motion blur because it fitted that concept. But not this one.

Normally I only build what the camera will see. The main reason is economy of resources so that my computer can handle it. For example, this particular scene has 5 billion polygons and takes up around 8GB of RAM when rendering, even though it consists only of what you see. I'm just a hobbyist, can't afford a super-computer.
