Description
I really like forest clearings... This was born in the sequence of this other image:Here's some other images I made with forest clearings:
Reading is also lots of fun.
As always, this is pure 3D and it was rendered in Vue.

So impressive. I am a 2d Illustrator (Photoshop, Painter.) But this is inspiring me to learn more about 3D...absolutely beautiful work.

Forgot to mention in my previous reply another way how I illuminate part of this scene: see how the bark of the trees in the foreground is slightly illuminated? That's from two big bright green planes that are just behind the camera view and parallel to it. I'm taking advantage here of the light bouncing that GR engine provides.
Another thing: see how the shaded parts of the kid are also nicely illuminated? There I played with the materials - the kid's shirt and skin have a higher than usual ambient component.
Like I said, each image is a different challenge and normally the solution is by a combination of different lighting techniques.

Thanks!
Each scene represents a different lighting challenge. In this one I used something that I don't use often: the light in the distance, that makes the background trees appear in silhouette, is not a real light - it's the glow from the haze. The main light, coming from the top, is just the sun. I simply changed its angle until it was parallel to the leaves. There's no other light sources here but...
... even with only the sun in the scene as the only light source (as I usually do), Vue can still have many different light origins, you just have to know them well and know how to use them. You can have light from the sky dome, light from the GR engine (which is regulated by the gain and by the bias color), environment light (regulated by the light balance slider), indirect atmospherics (light from low clouds), glow from the haze, glow from the sun (anisotropy), glow from low decay or from a bright decay color, less than 100% shadows from the sun (absence of shadow is also a form of light ) and in the most recent versions of Vue you can even have a environment map beyond the atmosphere, even when you use spectral. All these effects can contribute concurrently to the overall light in your scene. Everyone who uses Vue uses several of these effects at the same time but normally people don't think much about what's the best effect to use in which circumstance, or what effect compensates for problems from another. I could be talking here about it for hours...
