Description For the 's Mother's Day contest 2014.
Lady Tremaine with Drizella and Anastasia.

I figured Lady Tremaine could've been a pretty nice mother once upon a time. At least, Cinderella's father must've chose her because of being a good mother.
I thought of the book being Snow White because Snow White was before Cinderella. But there are some similarities between the two stories, too, with Snow White's stepmother being jealous of Snow White and making her into a maid. But Lady Tremaine does what she does mainly for her kids. She wants them to have a good life.

I start work on it right after seeing the journal about the contest, and I still just barely get it done on time.
First time trying to draw characters from Cinderella. ...I was going to draw Cinderella, too, but I wasn't sure if I'd get the picture done on time and decided to do her last, because Cinderella's not important.
I referenced a video I took of myself holding a book and mock-reading to two stuffed animals (I'd thought about animating Lady Tremaine looking between Drizella and Anastasia, but decided not to), as well as referencing screenshots from Youtube and disneyscreencaps.com.
I think I got the idea for the picture last year but didn't draw it. I'm not certain, though, because I didn't look to see what note I might've written about the idea.
Kind'a a coincidence, I found out when looking for some references that there's a prologue thing at the beginning of Cinderella with the characters at the same ages I was going to draw them (and with similar clothes, though a bit frillier), as well as the beginning and ending of Snow White showing Snow White's book. So I didn't have to make up the book design or the clothes/hair of the characters, after all. (but ignore the spine of the book, because I got a little too panicked about the time to compare references and instead just doodled some spirally stuff)

I gave both the kids greenish eyes, after their mother, though different shades (Drizella's darker and a bit gray, and Anastasia's darker). I tried to make the characters look like them (like Drizella having a pointy nose), but also more... nice looking at the same time. But they're already kind'a cute in the prologue, too. (Drizella's hair should probably be a bit darker, since the prologue's colors seem a bit faded, but I liked the idea of her hair becoming darker as she got older, since that happens sometimes.)
(also, you ever notice that Cinderella characters wear those Aladdin gem things? I thought that was a little interesting. I didn't add the highlights to these, though, because I think they're probably opaque, not see-through. Can't really see Anastasia's light blue one here, though, since the book covered it. ...it also covers quite a bit of their dresses. I probably should've saved some time and not drawn all that behind the book.)

Yeah. I thought of making it Snow White because Snow White was before Cinderella, but there's also a few similarities to the stories. What a confusing book that is to draw, though. But I think it's a pretty book (and it's a somewhat simple design). It's nice that someone mentioned it. ^_^

Thanks. ^_^ I thought of drawing Cinderella, too (sitting close by, but basically being ignored), but ran out of time. She was probably a good enough mother to Cinderella until Cinderella's father died. But it might be a better picture without Cinderella in it.

Yeah I like it better without cinderella. I can't imagine her ever being genuinely nice to cinderella. This way without her the picture made a statement showing that she is a good mother to her biological kids..as mean as it is haha

Awww, this is so cute! I love the idea, I never really thought of her loving her own children, and it's so nice to see this side of her.

thanks. ^_^ I thought about drawing little Cinderella sitting close by, but ran out of time. She was probably nice enough to Cinderella, too, until after Cinderella's father died.
