Description
Since that little panel I did seemed to get some attention, I thought I'd submit the first two pages as my 4,000pv and 50w picture (although now I have 53 watches, and 4,011 page views - I was 1 day, 2 hours, and 59 minutes late for it to have been submitted at exactly 4,000. I just happened to see it reach that number yesterday.) I did think about doing a pic of Ed in snow, instead, but this ended up being what I went with.So.
This took too long. >_< I would've spent more time on it, but wanted to get it up, so everything's kind'a scribbly. I donno if the street looked like that in 1921 or not, since all the pictures I found of it looks somewhat recent. I copied one of the photos almost exactly, but I'm not sure where I found that one. If you look up the city name on Wikipedia, they have some shots of the end of the street.
I drew those three people in the background this morning. I was going to just sketch them out in actual size in the picture, but then realized I couldn't make them look real unless I drew them, scanned them, colored them, and shrunk them. So, I might submit some close-up pictures seperately, if you're interested... Especially since this picture's huge - it took minutes every time I saved it, I saved the finished image half-sized and it's still less than a third of the size in fullview, and I had to zoom out to 12.5% on the original in order to see the whole thing on my screen.
I still don't have a title for my comic, and the buildings look fake. T_T I don't think I like drawing buildings very much...
Oh, and I went by this cute little guy for the dog - [link] (I couldn't find any other pictures I could use as reference that were close to the pose I wanted. ^_^" )

Very good job!but you should draw Sibiu instead of Sighisoara cuz Sibiu is his homeland. And I really like how you colored the buildings. You should draw the doctor and his wife as well.

Most of the stuff I found on him mentioned Sighisoara (or Media, or Heidelberg). Do you know where he was in the Teens? I think he was in Heidelberg in 1921, but I thought he was in Sighisoara right before that.
I tried drawing a few sketches of him and his wife, but I had no idea of what his wife looked like (or, anything about her). Would you happen to have much information about her?

I would like to have some images with them to show you but unfortunately I don't.I have searched on internet but I couldn't find any images. You should try drawing them using your imagination instead of searching for images.Good luck and yes you should go on with Sighisoara as the main town!

I don't think Sighisoara will be the main location, but I want to have the prologue or beginning chapter there.

Actually I've been trying to redo it a little more realistically, but I can't seem to finish it... I hope I can get myself to make it look nice so I can do more pages... (I've thought of a lot of stuff for the comic idea I had, but haven't gotten much done... ^_^" Ed'll spend most of the time in Germany, though. Well, unless someone draws Ed back near the end)

well, I think you did your best on this
ye, Ed spent most of his time in Germany, but I was happy when he said for his father that he goes in Romania in the hungarian dub Ed mentioned that again for Noah

AsjJohnson In reply to timko77 [2009-05-31 22:02:17 +0000 UTC]
What did Ed tell Noah?
Something that wasn't mentioned, as far as I know, was that Oberth wasn't in Romania at the time... At least, that's the conclusion I reached when I tried finding his house. ^_^" I think he was at Heidelberg, so Ed would've gone to Romania, then turned around to go back to Germany. I also found that, besides Oberth living there for awhile, Sighisoara was the birthplace of the guy Dracula was based on, and when you put that together with Hohenheim mentioning Dracula at the end of the anime, there could be a story behind it. That's one thing I want to make my comic about.
If I ever get some pages done, will you read it?
This is a close-up of one of the back buildings I redid in this pic: [link] Think it looks better? I'm trying to redo all of them like that, but the ones at the front scare me with all the details. ^_^"

ok, so first, in the english dub Ed didn't mentioned to Noah, but in the hungarian did (I was a bit surprised, but it's ok if they rewrite just a bit), anyway that was happend in the hungarian dub when Noah told to Ed that she saw Al, his mother and their house in her dreams, and then Noah asked Ed to tell about his world. Then Ed said that he met Alfons in Romania two years ago. Remember that part, no?
But it was a great idea with Dracula and Sighisoara
Sure I will read your comic, just remind me, just if I forgot. The building is perfect, atlist that's my opinion. Great job

I downloaded the Bluebird's Illusion game, though, and love how it looks (even though I can't read anything)...
I put a comic site up here [link]
I want to redo this some before I put it on the site, though. I changed a detail about the girl and thought I'd try coloring the background without the squiggly lines. Hopefully I can do that within the next two or three weeks because I made a note on the site saying I would...

Oh really?
I was trying to find out where Dr. Oberth (or Mr. Oberth at this time) lived in 1921, and I couldn't figure out for sure... They said he lived on that street as a boy until around 1909 or so, and they said he lived in Medias at another time period (but can't figure out exactly about 1921). So, I thought it's more likely he'd live in Medias, but then, I found out that Dracula lived in a house in Sighisoara, and at the end of the FMA anime, Hohenheim mentioned Dracula when Ed said he was going to Transylvania - or I think it's actually Romania? - to see Mr. Oberth.
So, I thought that seemed quite the coincidence, and thought maybe I should have something about it.
Ed won't spend much time in Sighisoara, though. ^_^" I wish I could find that good a picture in Medias, but I can't. >_>" Oberth's place there is really secretive, apparently (I don't even know if his house is pink or white O_o I found one pic of his house that's pink and a few others that are white, and I'm pretty sure the pink photograph is the oldest, but not by much...)

Sighisoara isn't a very big city in Romania but he had an important vrole in our history and Medias and Transylvania is in our country as well...
And Dracula really lived(I'm not crazy and not a freak) but he was an ordinary human being and the ruler of our country his real name was Vlad Dracula and we were in war with the otoman empire(turkey) in that time they were killing all our men women and children and that's why he started toreturing and kiling the turks which came in Romania .... and he was kind of cruel ... and that's why he was considered to be Dracula D
But actually he wasn't a really bad bad person ... he wanted just to protect us ... his people and his land as the king of Romania

WOW, Asj. It's gorgeous. Does look a little like something out of an older CG video game, where the textures are there but not quite perfect (I agree with you that they're there, but they'd probably get better with practice) but that's part of what charms me so about it.
The buildings are quite nice (in my opinion) and there's a certain depth to the picture that I have to admit I envy, because realistic or no, it does look like something you can step into. I have to agree the clock tower is the best looking building, but I also really like how those trees turned out and the atmosphere you use here is spiffy.

Yay. ^_^
I want it to look like it's gonna snow, because I'm gonna have it snowing pretty hard in awhile. ^_^"
I looked at some screenshots awhile ago and noticed how much different that anime does buildings. ^_^" I'll probably try redoing them, but I'm not really sure when because I'm not looking forward to another two or three days doing buildings. Seems like I keep making background things too careful or something. Hard to explain. Like, there's all this contrast and sharp lines in the screenshots, and I usually end up having low contrast and blurs because I'm not sure if it'll look right otherwise (although non-straight lines is just from me not wanting to take time to use the pen tool).

wow this looks really good and like it took a LOT of time. I absolutely love that cathedral building in the background and the roof of the right building^^ well the whole right building actually.. and the street looks so nice^^
I don't really think the problem with the left buildings is the texture.. it's more the wavyness of the lines. for buildings you should use straight lines (ruler would be best I think). especially the windows look really shaky. Hope I could help you a bit^^
I can't wait to see the next page ^^

AsjJohnson In reply to ChibiEdo [2008-12-16 20:48:38 +0000 UTC]
cathedral building meaning the clock tower? That's the first thing I colored - back when I took my time and liked it. ^_^" (I should submit a close-up of it... I like how it turned out. It's blurry, but I thought it was okay 'cause it's in the very back)
Hmm... The large building on the right was the second one I did. I don't like it much, though. ^_^"
At first I did the street the same way I did the roofs and sidewalk, but then this morning I went over it again with an oval brush and scattering and foreground/background jitter (no control) and size jitter (pen pressure).
Maybe I should go over some things again... I was kind'a in a rush trying to do it so I kind'a guessed at the lines. ^_^" (and I couldn't figure out how to get the windows the right shapes using photoshop shapes - at least not as quickly as guessing at them) It's hard doing a pic in much detail when you can only view the whole thing at 12.5% ^_^" ...I don't think I want to fix anything for a little while, though (espeically since I know I'll be tempted to go over everything and it'll take awhile if I do). Hmm... Perhaps I should try to figure out what the next page or two will be... I've thought about them, but don't really know yet...

I think you did a great job! Buildings are incredibly tricky, but these look really good. I think a bit more texture, like brick or stone texture could be added and some line art would really define the buildings.
Excellent composition though, it looks like Ed is embarking on something important!

I was meaning more to the green and yellow building. Or at least my computer can't see it very well, my settings are very bright. But, in all honesty you've done a better job than me the last time I tried to draw a city scene. Talk about absolute fail. Linear perspective is my downfall.

AsjJohnson In reply to Pyridoxine [2008-12-16 21:43:40 +0000 UTC]
I should probably go over it using some vanishing point stuff (and make the lines straighter), since I just guessed at everything because I wanted to put it up quick.
Most of the buildings on the left are the green one on the end there, transformed a little. I ran a transparent black brush over the buildings, but I probably didn't do it enough or something... And I didn't want the buildings to look ran down, but I don't really know how to make them look right. ^_^" I think they're all painted so they're kind'a smooth... (well, I donno about all of them, but I can't see any bricks in the photos)

Pyridoxine In reply to AsjJohnson [2008-12-18 14:12:40 +0000 UTC]
And you did a really good job at the guessing. Besides, it looks fine enough, I was just giving you my thoughts on it. I guess I'm a sucker for lots of texture and I do like the run-down look, I do that a lot when I draw so that's just my personal preference.
