Description
These are my Various Attempts to depict the many glorious creations of Emily Rodda in her book series 'Deltora Quest.'With these two, bearing in mind the book descriptions, I wanted to envoke the sense that they are almost unnatural, that they shouldn't exist as vile products of magic. So I went into it with the mindset that they were severely mutated humans, seeing as Thaegan herself once was a human woman. I took inspiration from some of the works of Junji Ito to create a sense of uncanny valley. For example, instead of saying that Jin's eyes were small, I instead drew them as 'unnaturally small', Jod's teeth aren't crooked, they're 'too crooked'. He also gets the uneven moobs. You can definitely see traces of the anime designs in here too.

Hi! I'm a long time fan of the Deltora Quest books, and Thaegan and her children are among my favorite characters. I just started looking on DA to find book-based art, and I have to say I love this gorgeous piece! I know you did others about the Deltora Quest, that I'll look at later, but let me tell you this one is gorgeous!
If I dislike the anime for one thing, it's for making Thaegan's children look like some sort of badly drawn Pokemon, but here I find back the original intent behind the characters - ogres from fairy tales, terrifying monsters, abominables creatures. I like it! I love it! I adore it!
I don't think you've done the other children of Thaegan? It's too bad because these ones are so good! I'm sure you would do honor to the other ones.
So you go with the option that Thaegan created them out of magic? I like how you reflect this canon background option into their aspect, making them look uneven and unfinished, and badly made. That's just wonderful. And Junji Ito? Curiously, I asked myself recently if Junji Ito wouldn't be a perfect illustrator for monsters in Deltora. By gosh, is this art gorgeous in its ugliness!
I also like that you kept the trait that other people tend to overlook, that Jin and Jod are the fattest of all of Thaegan's children. (Don't know why people overlook it when it's specified in both Lake of Tears and the Book of Monsters)

Thanks for your attention! I've thought about going back to these sets and doing more of Thaegans children.

By the way, if you ever plan on making the other children of Thaegan, you happen to own the Book of Monsters, right? Because that's the thing you need if you have to study the children.
(I guess you own it given your knowledge of the monsters, but if you don't I happen to own one, and I'll gladly share info and pictures with you if you like)

Well, I certainly hope you will! It's so rare to see people do the children correctly. I'll watch your gallery with a keen eye. :3
