Description These are my Various Attempts to depict the many glorious creations of Emily Rodda in her book series 'Deltora Quest.'

Ols were something I always wondered about, because their descriptions were always hard to pin down. I always imagine them as looking like wacky inflatable tube men, but even more chaotic in how they moved, along with the whole flaming thing. I once saw these old diagrams of wormholes which were fascinating to me, the twirly chaotic tubes within tubes within tubes. So part of it went into the Ol, as if it is by nature an unstable anomaly. Plus, it's got hands coming from the ends of it's fingers, because it's just messed up like that.

Side Note: The pink and blue unicorns from Charlie the Unicorn occasionally show Ol symptoms. i'm not saying nothing, but watch those videos again and you'll see it.

I'm sorry but I don't dig this design. Probably because I have my own design in my head, and I like it. But yours is quite good - it's just it's too "flame and tube and a lot of wirls and little stuff" for me. I imagine them more plain, more simple. They are traitless. Long, thin, smooth. Imagine them a bit like a Slenderman without clothes, some sort of thin giant made of wax, a bit like a tribe of aliens in one of the Martin Mystery episodes, but with heads like big candles flames, only not moving, like if the flame itself became one with the wax, but at the same time you see they're not wax or really solid, they're just this shining stuff ghosts seem made of, some cold ectoplasm...

Anyway, a good design, but a bit too sophisticated for me when Ols are described in the book more... simple and plain.

TBH it's not that great, but i think it mostly comes from this notion in my head that Ols are almost not made of normal flesh but are instead slightly aetherial. I'd probably go for a totally different design nowadays, something more along the lines of a land cuttlefish, more tactile, like a real-world-shapeshifter. This was mostly an exercise in trying to portray flames, like they're sort of unstable. It is sort of ugly looking back at it.

Always happy to have any sort of feedback!

Oh I like the idea of using the cuttlefish! Indeed, with it I see where you wanted to go for something aetherial.

And don't be too harsh on your own art. It's not ugly. I just said it wasn't my tastes

No, I mean looking back on it now, it's sort of ugly to me. That's pretty common when you look back on your own art. I'll take your comments as motivation for improvement
