Description MAN< I hated those posters of the cute little fuzzy creatures forced to hang from something, just for the sake of slapping the 'uplifting' statement onto an enlarged photo, but, the title suited Sooner, my cooner. I kind of just stuck her up a pine tree when we went to Ozone Falls this afternoon to check out the natural 100ft tall water fall @ the state natural area. Anyhow, Sooner was probably only a 'seasoner,' (less then 6 months old) when taken. She's the perfect size because of it. Not too big, not too small. I got her from Hide and Fur, which seems like ages ago. I finally mounted her up with a purpose in mind. She's got my usual jointed armature, weight, soft ribcage, spine, and what-not so I can show her off to my accomplished artistic family up in Maine, which I hadn't seen in about TWELVE years!? Anyhow, I flew the 1,200 or so miles and actually mailed Sooner to myself up north, among some other things, so she'd be there when I get there.
You see, my extended family 'gets' traditional l/s, but doesn't 'get' soft mounted taxidermy. So I chose a species everyone in my family is familiar with, not too emotionally invested in, & will help me keep their questions focused on my methodology instead of questions related to "ranched this" or "color that." Sooner is something of a reasonable size to display my work & concepts on. (armature, soft ribcage etc..) I'm not claiming to have invented the initial concept, just show off my work... Anyhow, my family has seen most of my soft mounted work via email pix, & is actually intrigued by it all, & wasn't surprised that I took an interest in taxidermy as a kid & finally perused something in the area well into adulthood, but wants the more hands on approach, a close up look at the craft with my twist of more life like realism & feel(if I don't say so myself...) so I made Sooner to be my ambassador. I hope you like her. ....and don't mind if I toot my horn.

As you can tell, I am VERY pleased with how she came out. The image doesn't speak volumes of her overall appearance or feel, but I had to post something because of how much I adore her, & how proud I am of her & myself.

Haha Sooner looks like a bandit!

Armature sounds interesting! I've been seeing that too. Maybe when I'm better I'll make one of my own soft mounts with armature

I can help you with that too. I really like it. it adds a lot of life to any soft mount, and keeps them from being limp noodles. lol

Thanks!  And yea I've seen some of those without armature and they look weird to me lol.  I read that making the legs softer doesn't help either.

The stuffing bunches up or something.

Not sure what you mean, by 'softer.' Elaborate?

Like, looser...loosely stuffing so that legs are super soft I guess?  It's something I noticed on a few soft mounts with noodly legs while others had stiff looking legs.

Sorry I wasn't clear

It's good to see you around again! It would be awesome if you started commissions again, I just came into possession of a 4 week old coyote puppy that I would LOVE for you to soft mount with an armature and the like. I understand you closing them though, I still have things that I need to finish. e-e

Not that it's any of my business. Why soft mount a 4 week old? They wouldn't look right with upright ears and fully open eyes. They weren't even done delevoping.

It's your pup and all but I'm just saying it won't look anatomically correct for it's age group

I don't think 4 weeks is entirely right, the man I got my pup from said they were 'over the 4 week mark because they were out of the den and eating meat.'

I get what you're saying though, it would look weird to mount a puppy so young, but my boy's eyes were fully open and his ears are standing up, so I'd probably say more like 7-9 weeks. He looks a lot like the pups in this video except his adult coat is growing in and they seem to have mostly puppy fluff [link]

Sorry for the confusion!

Will you ever take commissions again?
