Description Suuuuper beginner level tutorial for Autodesk Maya.

Maya is not intuitive at all for people who are using it for the first time, and something as simple as getting a normal map and a color map can be daunting. So I made a very quick and simple tutorial for it.

A 'map' is an image from a program like photoshop, that you want to apply to an object (mesh) in Maya. If you aren't manually unwrapping the object, it helps a lot for the texture map to tile.

As a complete beginner, it's important to realize that the geometry has to be 'unwrapped' before an image can be applied to a mesh in any sort of predictable fashion. If that's too daunting a prospect for you at this point, one option is to apply automatic mapping.
To do that, first make sure you're in Modeling mode and not Animation or Surfaces or Dynamics, etc. (if you have no idea what that is or how to change it, hit F3 - that will put you in Modeling mode)
Then, with the object selected, go to:
Create UVs > Automatic Mapping

To see what your UVs look like, go to Window > UV Texture Editor

Thanks so much for this! I know Max like the back of my hand, but I got thrown into a Maya only rigging class and I feel retarded!
