Description

The recent raid on the Aether Foundation’s Alola branch has yielded interesting findings. First of and foremost is that through his research, working directly off of Professor Mohn’s original notes, Faba had developed a sensory equipment capable of locating Ultra Wormholes before the breaches are able to appear. These monitoring stations have been assembled across the Alolan Islands under the guise of conservation efforts, supposedly housing rangers and radio equipment. The towers are in reality completely autonomous, relaying information back to a remotely accessible computer network.

The scans provided by the Aether Network show heightened activity located at the Altar of the Sunne, a temple built into the side of a mountain by an ancient indigenous people that once inhabited the islands of the Alola region. A recon team was dispatched to prepare in case a breach was to occur, I personally volunteered to care for the newest member of our facility, Cosmog. Perhaps it was the psionic field around it reaching out, perhaps it was my own curiosity that needed to be sated, but something compelled me to look after this creature. Against my better judgement I entered the containment room, we all had seen the horrible state of Lusamine, another parasitic creature could render any of us in similar condition if not worse. But there I was, standing in the room with an alien creature, the closest I had been to an Ultra Beast in all my time studying them and the wormholes. Others on duty at the time pleaded with me to avoid making physical contact with the creature, they were right after all, this was both against protocol and common sense, but the sound in my head was calling out, like a child it wanted to be consoled.

Approaching the Cosmog, I reached out a hand and was met with a similar motion from it. Soft, gentle, warm, I took a seat on the floor and it drifted down and cradled itself in my arms. Perhaps in the wild they come together, linking pseudopods like Oshowott, Floatzel, and some other aquatic Pokémon do, so as not to drift apart? Soon what once felt entirely weightless had ever so slightly become heavier, as though its focus on levitation had ended, it had fallen asleep, this alien creature reached out to me because it wanted to be held. Nothing malicious, not to mind control me, not to prey on me, not to burn me to cinders with eldritch lasers or anything crazy that may race through one’s mind, but because it wanted to feel safe. I sat on that floor cradling this cosmic child in my arms for hours, I dare not move, I couldn’t bear the idea of waking something so peacefully at ease in a world as alien to it as it is to us.

That was three and a half weeks ago, since that moment the Cosmog follows me whenever I do my work, either floating near me or holding on in some way. Whenever they are unable to be near me it throws the equivalent of a temper tantrum, small loose objects such as pencils and computer mice being gently pushed off of surrounding desks in an area centering on wherever it happens to be at the moment, which brings me to this report. Around 3:00AM Monday morning, two days ago now, the facility faced another incident, this time from within. In a sudden burst of psychic energy any nonorganic matter, walls computers, metal supports, tiles, were all disassembled within a thirty-foot radius around Cosmog. The atomic material drawn directly into its growing mass before Cosmog collapsed in on itself in a final psychic burst, falling several feet into the ground and embedding itself deep into the now exposed earth below.

Removing it from the ground was a challenge however, occasionally it it becomes psionically active and begins to weightlessly levitate. These periods of activity are rare however, and the main body has become hot to the touch. The once thin and soft membrane has now thickened, compressing the material contained within to an extreme degree, emitting a faint light and a moderate level of heat. Aside from the heat and occasional psychic activity emanating from what is now being called Cosmoem, it appears lifeless, unmoving in any way and unresponsive to any outside stimuli. Some of the lab assistants local to Alola have likened it to an old Alolan legend called the “Cocoon of the Stars” a story of the ancient Alolan king who discovered a golden egg which had fallen from the sky, strangely enough this is the very story based around the Altar of the Sunne. While I doubt there is any real connection  between the two, the similarities are undeniable and every legend has a nugget of truth to them.
