Description

During the Ultra Wormhole crisis in which dozens of wormholes snapped open and closed around the Alola region. Reports began to appear around both Malie Garden and the Haina Desert of high levels of Sulfur Dioxide, permeating the local area. The initial fear was that Mount Lanakila had been awakened by the spatial activity of the wormholes, however a team of seismologists have confirmed that the volcano remains inactive. Our team, equipped with safety equipment, soon moved to the locations and discovered two wormholes leading to similar locations.

Now dubbed the “Ultra Crater” is a hot environment with a thick runaway greenhouse atmosphere. What appear to be shallow pools of water are in fact pools of sulfuric acid. Despite this highly corrosive acid live seems to thrive, not just on the microscopic scale but to such a degree that alien megafauna has developed. Sitting in large numbers around the pools of acid are large floral-like lifeforms resembling our planet’s bamboo.

Standing with an average height of 9.2 meters the creatures at first appear to be sessile in nature, though, if disturbed will slowly amble to another location on its short, stocky legs. The creature possesses a long neck with a head that rests directly centered on the protrusion. Four protruding appendages jutting from the head act as its main form of sensory reception, mostly functioning as chemoreceptors. Two pairs of beady black eyes rest on the sides of its head, though these appear to only be able to sense changes in light levels more so than general shapes. Attached at the base of its large body are two appendages, which at first appeared to researchers as separate structures all together. Connected by large joints are a pair of massive arms with a central trunk that extends nearly the total length of the body. The creature appears to have undergone a form of mimicry in its evolution in the past, however it appears the plant it was attempting to imitate has long since gone extinct.

When threatened the creature is not incapable of defending itself, as when drones approached the target, they used the large trunks of their arms to swing downward hard. They appear to have a 270-degree range of motion forward and back. When traveling long distances or unable to deal with a predator they unleash a concoction of chemicals stored within their body and “arms” producing a high level of thrust, launching themselves through the sky at break neck speeds. When in this state of flight, the long, leaf-like structure extending from their head contracts around the back of the body while other sections of its exoskeleton tighten to form a more aerodynamic shape. The arms, capable of movement, are able to adjust mid-flights to control altitude, speed, and assist in descending safely. Trace studies show the process of propulsion produces zinc sulfate a biproduct of some solid-state rocket fuels, storing massive quantities of these materials within its body, kept separate to avoid an internal detonation.

Celesteela appear to incorporate copper into their biology, using it as both a means of transferring oxygen, Hemocyanin. As well as in the composition of its exoskeleton, which forms the distinctive green patina, however in addition to copper it produces a natural enzyme similar in structure to Teflon which helps to protect its body against the corrosive sulfuric acid from the environment which it inhabits. It may also aid in the ignition of the sulfur-zinc fuel stored within its body, allowing it to produce a strong enough spark to initiate flight. The underside of Celesteela appear to be more suited to the extreme temperatures and forces generated by the jet fire, though it is not uncommon to see a weakened or dying limb be blown off by the force of the flames, they appear capable of growing back.
