The characterizations of Link and Zelda you see here are from the 1989 Zelda animated series. Personally speaking I would let Zelda save me any day!

Nice role reversal! April Fools or not, this practically screams to have some in-story context added (a fanfic or even just a paragraph or two) in terms of how Link ended up captured for a change (the events of "The Missing Link" aside).

Maybe if she had some sword training, considering she had trouble using Link's sword in the episode I mentioned. That much could be a tidbit of context for this pic, at least in terms of why she's armed thusly. True, she's good with a bow and arrows/crossbow, but those can run out of ammo and long-range combat isn't always an option.

This art was like a pitcher of cold water in the face for me...before this I never knew there was a cartoon (I did end up watching an episode on youtube, the whole thing. It was excruciating the first five minutes).
That said, the role reversal was very refreshing!

Ah, back in the day... back in 1989 there was only the first game as "canon" so to speak, so of course the animators took liberties with the story and characters.
It used to be part of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show (which I used to watch religiously way back then).

This also reminds me of the episode where Ganon separates Link\'s soul and body and where Zelda has to rescue his body while Link\'s soul .. advises.
