I just found your tutorial mentioned in the description of another artist. This looks very interesting, I never thought of colouring with values. The possibility to play around with the opacity before colouring sounds great.

This is actually extremely helpful, thank you! Definitely makes understanding the concepts easier!

I noticed more recent versions of MyPaint appear to have a more "traditional" layout, does it allow you to switch back to the previous one if you want?

I'm glad the tutorial is of some help.

Sadly, no it doesn't- not that I know of.
And the old MyPaint had some features that the current version doesn't have for some reason. :T (being able to import a palette to the scratchpad was one of them...)
