what is tls ? and water it is ok ?

I wouldn't recommend water. Water will evaporate and make the the cream sink and look much flatter.

TLS = Translucent, Liquid Sculpey

okay thanks a lot, I just have 5 colors of clay for an homework in art class and I don't really know about

Auffallend In reply to cristal-folle [2013-04-20 17:30:11 +0000 UTC]

not just any clay works for these type of mini sculptures. Fimo and Sculpey are pretty much the only ones that work. Anything else, without a professional level of technique, won't work

I work with fimo, modeling clay, terre glaise and others

Auffallend In reply to cristal-folle [2013-04-21 23:15:25 +0000 UTC]

yeah the modeling and terre wont work for these type of creations

They look so real! I'm wanting to start making little sweets like this, but I've never worked with clay on such a small scale. I will come back to use this tutorial... when I actually have clay. Thanks!

I love all your tutorials! So much better than the amateur ones xD
I read somewhere that i need to use oil pastels to change the color of the clay, but will regular chalk pastel work too? or is it only good for browning/icing sugar etc?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Auffallend In reply to GenIshihara [2011-02-22 17:56:51 +0000 UTC]

both work just fine, one just takes more mixing is all

i like the chalk ones best cuz i can keep it a little chunky in the mix to make it look like cinnamon is mixed in or make it look like cake icing with sprikles mixed in

pastels dont do that so well, they tend to stick together if you dont mix em fully, but they do make the colors a bit more vibrant for the same amount used as the chalk ones.

chalk ones are also much cheaper

so it then depends on your price limit and how you want effects to turn out

GenIshihara In reply to Auffallend [2011-02-22 18:29:01 +0000 UTC]

very interesting!! thank you for saving me the time and mess of experimenting for myself haha
oh and one more question, the 'icing sugar' that you added last, wouldn't it brush off really easily? how do you get it to stay on?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Auffallend In reply to GenIshihara [2011-02-23 04:50:50 +0000 UTC]

it depends on how warm it is in the room and how much you put on it. some will definitely brush off but alot will stay on if it pretty warm where you work.
the warmer it is the softer the clays ends up being and the easier it is for gravity to work and for the powder to sink in.

after it is done baking, you can also rub a little of the "sugar" in with your finger to keep it in on parts that were less hard or if your working in a cooler area
