Description
I love how lightweight Sketchbook Pro is on my computer, but I was disappointed in the limited number of brushes that came with the program, and was surprised to find that there are NO custom made brush sets floating around out there, like there is for Photoshop and GIMP - especially after I found out how easy it was to make them!So I am remedying this problem myself and making brush sets to share with you. Some of these are brushes I created myself. Some are ones that I have pulled from Photoshop and sets made by other people for Photoshop and adjusted them for Sketchbook. If you see a brush you recognize, keep in mind it won't behave exactly the same as in Photoshop because the programs have different brush dynamics.
Enjoy! And keep your eye out for more to come.
INSTRUCTIONS: Please let me know if you have any trouble downloading the zip file. You shouldn't need to extract the brush files after downloading. Sketchbook will automatically extract the brushes into the program when you select the zipped folder.

When you say you're clicking on your downloads, do you mean the individual brush file, or the zipped folder the brush file is in?
It sounds backwards, but you don't want to try to import the individual brush files. You want to import the whole zipped folder. If you try to import individual brushes, it won't recognize the file.
Where are the zip files downloading to? Maybe it doesn't like the folder path. If you're putting them in the program files where the default brushes are, or if they are downloading into your temp or user data files (where many internet downloads go by default), try moving the zip files to their own folder in, say, My Documents and importing them from there.
That's all I can think of. Sorry. :S Maybe try posting your problem and screenshots on a Sketchbook forum.

Screenshots: best thing since sliced bread.
Yeah, try moving the zip folders out of your Downloads folder into a My Documents folder. It's not going to want to import files from the Downloads folder. The Downloads folder mostly exists to quarantine potential viruses and trojans that download themselves onto your computer while you're surfing the internet. It acts like a net to catch anything that dumps itself onto your computer from online. If you have a virus, it will almost always be a .exe file in your Downloads folder. So your computer is set up to give files in the Downloads folder as little access to the rest of your system as possible, and software frequently won't recognize a file extension with "Downloads" in the address as a valid file, because it doesn't want to accidentally open a potential virus. If you create a "Sketchbook Brushes" folder in your My Documents and drag and drop the brush zip files there, I think you should be able to open them from that location. Give it a try and let me know if it works. I don't see anything else that should be causing a problem.
The TIF files you circled in the second screenshot are the individual brush files, which you will see if you go into the zip folder. If you try to import these, you will definitely get an error message. If you move up to the parent folder "Downloads," you would see the zip folder - which is what you ended up doing in screenshot 4. These are the folders you want to select for import (but from a My Documents folder).

Sorry, without being able to sit down at your computer myself and mess with it, I can't figure out what the problem is. As far as I can tell, you're following the same steps as people who have successfully imported them.

Basically I just downloaded the content, left it unzipped, used the import option on the brush cataloge and as soon as I click on the unzipped content, the message pops up.
I've been trying to research it, but it seems that Sketch Book is used enough to find a forum on it or any sort of instruction.
Is it possible to have too many brushes loaded?

Very common problem: you actually want the brush files to *remain* zipped. If you unzip the folder, sketchbook won't recognize it. Skip the unzipping step and put the zip file directly into the brush sets folder. If you're not unzipping the folder manually but it's unzipping automatically during download, turn off whatever program or setting on your computer is unzipping your downloads by default so the file remains zipped. Then move it to the folder you want to save it in, open sketchbook, and load the *zipped* brush set you want. Sketchbook will unzip it within the program.
Let me know if you run into any more problems.

Make sure you have your brush palette/toolbox open. Click and hold the ring of circles (usually located in the upper right hand corner of the palette, depending on which version you have). A ring of icons will appear. You can mouse over these to see what each one does. One should have a brush (or a brush, pencil, and pen) with a down arrow. This one is the "Import Brush Set" icon. While still holding down your left-click button, drag your cursor over this icon and release. This will open the folder where default brush sets are kept, and you can navigate from here to wherever you saved the set you downloaded.
Let me know if you still need help.

Glad you like it! I haven't tried them on an Ipad. I don't know if they'd work or how you'd even download them. I'd look in the SB manual for instructions. If you don't find any, its probably not possible.
If you are able to download them, just keep in mind that an Ipad doesn't have pressure sensitivity, so size and opacity will all have to be adjusted manually.

I must ask is it possible to convert abr PS files to tif files for sketchbook pro? I have abrmate to go through and convert them to png but I want to know if I made them into tif can they possibly be used?

Are you asking about converting artwork from PS to SB, or brushes?
If you're asking about artwork, it's EASY: you don't have to do any conversion. SB will open PS files, and you can continue to save it as a PS file so you can switch back to PS any time you want.
As for brushes, the only way I know to convert PS brushes for SB is to create a PS file with the shapes of all the brushes you want on a layer above the background, then open it in SB, capture the shape in the Create Brush window, and play with the dynamics until you get a similar effect to the PS brush. As far as I know, there is no way to directly convert PS brush files to SB.

It was brushes since I've seen a few sets where people have managed to do it, so thanks! I don't have PS anymore so I guess I'll have to use gimp

Converting brushes from GIMP should work the same way as the PS brushes - though I've never been impressed with GIMP brushes. But good luck!

Thanks! Oh a question, so if I use ABRviewer to make all the brushes I want into png, then place them all on a layer above the background using gimp, then I go to SB and start messing with the seeings I can mess with them?

Seeings? You mean settings? Yes. Just look up a tutorial on youtube about how to make brushes in SB.

AutodidactArtAcademy In reply to CherryAngeel [2013-03-10 16:37:24 +0000 UTC]
I don't know. That sounds like a bug.
You don't have to keep the brushes you download in the "Custom Brushes" folder. You can create a folder for the brushes anywhere on your hard drive, and open that folder in the "Import Brushes" window, and select the file with the brushes in it. If your Sketchbook has a bug, try creating a folder in your documents folder, instead of storing the brush file in the Sketchbook program folders, and see if you can import them from there.
Let me know if that works.

The brushes are not .tiff files. .tiff files are the artwork. The brushes should be in a .zip file. You do not need to unzip it. Sketchbook will automatically unzip it when you select it.

AutodidactArtAcademy In reply to CherryAngeel [2013-03-19 15:26:41 +0000 UTC]
You probably have some program on your computer that is automatically unzipping the file. You DON'T want it unzipped. Sketchbook won't recognize it if it's unzipped. Check your programs and control panel settings to figure out what is automatically unzipping it and turn it off. Or try downloading the brushes to someplace the unzipping-program might not affect, like an external hard drive.
