Description I found this in a really old sketch book while going through my drawers looking for my ferret. About 2 years old. I think the reference picture came from National Geographics.

It was unfinished, but not by much. Just the right paw on the right dog, and the hindleg on the left dog. They're African Wilddogs. Cute guys, aren't they. Their ears are supposed to be much bigger, I definately screwed that up.

This is just a plain old practice piece I did a long time ago. No meaning, no nothing. I gave it to a worker at my group home.

Medium: HB Pencils on sketch paper
Time: 1-2 hours

This is a good sketch, I know the picture you referenced too! For some reason I quite like the eyes.

anway would be better with a background, do you use all the pencils...you know HB, sp, WB, EB...you know what I mean > it helps. I try drawing aniamls from pictures, they wind up looking crosseyed.

Mmm hmm. I use those pencils, and I suck at backgrounds so I just don't do them.

Those are cute!! I love wild dogs. Great work on their legs, especially. I would suggest bringing in some real dark darks to make things really pop and some real white highlights for the same reason. Right now the whole picture is sort of in a midtone range. Don't know if you plan on continuing working on it--I know when I pick stuff up from years ago I rarely return to it, but it does look like it's going great, so. The left ear (his right) on the pup with his mouth open is particuarly nice looking.
