Description More Arrested Development-inspired sorryboards. And who can blame when I have THIS source of inspiration . Actually, I'm officially blaming *fUnKyToEs and =PeppermintD . for being unable to stop from their encouragement.

Roan, like Gob in AD (and many children around the world), finds the very thought of his parents getting it on squicky. It could have to do with how his parent's bedroom was located directly above his growing up. The noises he could try to ignore by pretending there were dragons battling on the roof... the dust raining down on him from the cracks of the grain made it a bit harder to ignore...

Hearing his mother-- ...uh, yeah. You get the picture.

He has a sense of propriety, alright?

Garik, on the other hand, doesn't have a problem with the thought of his parents being intimate. He is the Romantic in the family, after all, so he can see his parents beyond a pair of asexual authority figures. He even admires that they continue to keep that "flame" thingy going.

Clearly, he is not above tormenting Roan with this tolerance.

Moar sorryboards!!

Fun fact: beeswax candles were the most expensive kind. Most were made with tallow.

LOL!  Are you?  That's awesome. I keep meaning to draw more of these guys.

Yes, please! Oddly, these guys make me feel weird. It's related to Hiccup and Astrid. They, in your AU, are old enough to have a family. They've grown up. And for some reason, that makes me think of the fact that I'm aging too. I'm still in the uncomfortable  transition between teenager and adult, and it reminds me that I'll be there someday (maybe), and that freaks me out more than I care to admit. Weird, right?
Which brother was courting the Romani, and who did the other wind up with?

The eldest, Garik, was with the Romani. The one due to inherit Chief status.  The younger brother Roan ends up with this lovely little blonde. He's a bit wild in his youth but he really settles down in the end.

Beads.
BEESwax?
BEADS.

Damn son, I want more of this Arrested Development MMF.

I'm still waiting for Lunds encounter with Big Boobied Bertha.

There's a gathering at the Mead Hall and Lund can't see very well because of the smoke so he dances nervously back and forth but then there's this very curvy figure on the other side and she thinks he is beckoning her. She writes down a proposition on a piece of parchment and gives it to a terrible terror to deliver. Lund curiosuly reads it and freaks out because he's never been with a girl before. He runs off much to Astrid's dismay. Later he bumps into Big-Boobied-Bertha and she's asks him if he considered and he freaks more out because he realizes it's her making sexual advances on him and she is triple his age.

OMG That was amazing. When you say 'he runs off' is that when he goes on his ninja adventure? Was BBB the cause of it?

I think, like AD, he gives in eventually.

Also, he's the only one of Astrid's children that calls her 'mother'. He also has a sugar addiction. It is known.

I really really want to draw more now. But these are tablety things that I need a tablet for. I think the problem is with the touchpad. I need to figure it out how to turn it off.

"Suugar? Aww this party is gonna be OFF the hook" -Lund

I wasn't aware of the ninja adventure but I'm sure he'd hook up with Garick in the future on 'Operation Hot Mother' to save Garick's son from being paraded around at MotherViking XXX(30). Because Garick is looking for someone with Skills *que Lund going out the door, sneaking back through a window and holding a dagger to Garick's throat whispering 'Skills like these?'*

"Academy had a half day" - Lund.

But he actually skipped Dragon Training Academy. So he brings home a pile of fish he caught using a hook and only a hook only. Astrid asks about it and he says that he was awarded them "The Salmon is for valor. The eel for bravery."

Astrid gives him a classic Lucille look.

I wasn't familiar with Arrested Development - dunno if it's ever been shown in the UK where I am - and so I had the time of my life watching that video you posted the link to... thanks for the giggles XD

The same applies to this wonderful drawing you've done - part two as well. This is so frickin believable and all the more hysterical for it!

I've also loved your drawing style as of late - your storyboards in particular. I've not been leaving comments, shame on me, but I have been a constant fan of them!

Finally, as a little aside, are there any chapters of crossing the line coming up any time soon? I LOVE that particular story both for where its already gone and for its potential. XD

AvannaK In reply to xv323 [2012-08-27 12:14:03 +0000 UTC]

You know, I have one friend in the UK and he's never seen it either (mostly because he's a poop). I really, really recommend watching it though. It's hilarious. Like, subtly hilarious that builds up over every season (there's only three). And the entire family dynamic not only reminds me of my own but also what could be for MMF, and I think that's what makes it believable. It's not just another family-drama focused thing, it's the moments in-between that speak volumes about their characters. Their quirks and humor. It's a great source of inspiration.

So you like this new style? That's great! I am having a lot of fun with it. This whole "storyboarding" project, where I do quick sketches without references, is really helping me illustrate, I think.

(Yes, shame on you. I love comments!)

Side note: YES! I am just finishing up one right now, funnily enough, though I should warn you that it's only technically "half" of a chapter and not all that eventful. I love that you love crossing the line, though. It's not quite as popular as other things I write, but I feel the story is more potent. ... possibly too potent for many to handle.

xv323 In reply to AvannaK [2012-08-27 13:58:21 +0000 UTC]

Fantabulous, will be keeping an eye out. Or two. XD

My personal tastes in comedy have never really tended to favour American comedy, particularly sitcoms - I don't know why, really, and there are some exceptions. I guess stuff like Two and a Half Men is more about 'wisecracking' and everyone seems to have the wit of a stand up comedian, whereas I tend to prefer chaotic and farcical comedy, for example Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and a series which I don't think has ever been shown in the US called 'Allo 'Allo, which is about the French resistance in WW2. Not saying stuff like Two and a Half Men isn't funny, it's just not my taste. As I say though, there are exceptions - I think Scrubs is hysterical, for instance. I'll give Arrested Development a try, it may well end up being another of those exceptions based on that video... XD

And yes, I do like your storyboarding style very much indeed. It impresses me constantly just how well-thought-through your characters are, to the extent that you can come up with little skits like these and they make themselves instantaneously believable with a character that wasn't even in the movie originally and yet seems like he probably should have been.

Except for the fact that for Garik and Roan to both exist, HTTYD probably couldn't have been a kids movie... XD

Pshshshshhfalskdjfalkdj

How DARE you compare Arrested Development to a sitcom!
Jk. But seriously, not even close. I don't watch sitcoms as it doesn't appeal to me either... and it's sad that 'Two and a half Men' is what you think of when you think of American humor. Arrested Development, New Girl, The League... those are my idea of American humor.

Aaaanyway (clearly too obsessed with it), that you find my characters well thought out to the point where they could be canon just makes my night. Seriously, I'm so glad that there are people out there enjoying this future exploration as much as I am,

"Except for the fact that for Garik and Roan to both exist, HTTYD probably couldn't have been a kids movie... XD"
Hey, with that logic, Hiccup shouldn't exist either since Stoick had to get it on with VAlhallarama to create him.

xv323 In reply to AvannaK [2012-08-27 14:23:40 +0000 UTC]

I think sitcom might mean something a little different over here - basically when I say sitcom I mean anything that isn't stand up comedy and is based around some form of fictional storyline. No implication meant...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AvannaK In reply to xv323 [2012-08-27 14:26:02 +0000 UTC]

Sitcom here is just 'situation comedy'; like a live-show. You can hear people laughing from the audience when silliness is about.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xv323 In reply to AvannaK [2012-08-27 15:19:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, sit-com in the UK tends to describe something with background laughter as well, but people interpret it (or at least I do) more as being comedy set in a fictional narrative, rather than specifically a live-filmed show, although a lot of them are.

What a strange but interesting tangent this discussion has taken, although I fear I may now be splurging irrelevancy all over the comments section of one of your pieces of artwork. SORRYYYYyyyyy.... XD

Basically Garik promised Roan some beeswax candles in some sort of deal, but Roan fell through...

So not only does he not get the candles, but Garik decides to punish his brother by tormenting him with a scenario of what the candles could be used for. I liked how their expressions came out in this one and Roan's body in the third panel... it makes me so happy when things come together
