Well, let's hope your best friend Sydney doesn't act like frostbite.

When I first saw her, she looked a bit like Emma Watson.

Really?! Emma? Hmm, I can actually see it now that I look. I guess we should take a look at Watson's parents to see if they match Ruff or Fishlegs.

So this is Ruffnut's and Fishlegs' daughter? Hmm...Interesting pairing. This is very good! From afar, I could've sworn it was a real girl!

Yep - she's *ch4rms 's hypothetical spawn. Personally, I'm very against the idea of those two as a couple for several reasons. There was actually an awesome confession last week that summed my feelings about them nicely: [link]
But I did this as a thank-you give for her teaching me the style. And drawing my boys

That's the girl that has all the next gen boys in Berk walking around with stupid expressions on their faces. What a pity that she's got quite a bit of her "Auntie" Astrid's attitude towards the opposite gender!
Nice work on combining Ruffnut with Fishlegs, there!

what does he mean she has Astrid's attitude toward boys? She practically stalks Svenan the younger "giggle: She's just utterly spoiled.

That is really amazing. I saw Ch4rm's Astrid earlier. You too are really showcasing some unique stuff with this technique. It's a real advantage the digital folks have for sure.
I love you added freckles to her face. It makes her more outdoorsy and charmingly earthy. Though I have to admit one of the things I like about both yours and Ch4rm's art is you both show your characters as endearingly natural because of physical flaws you bring out in the characters. To me that makes them more realistic to me. This style is awesome in its naturalistic beauty, but I also love your original artwork you both do.

AvannaK In reply to FjordMustang [2011-12-02 03:24:57 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! Yeah, we were both drawing them at the same time, though me much farther behind because I was trying to observe what she was doing. She came up with it herself for the most part -it's pretty awesome!
I like ensuring characters have defining features - especially if they're a spawn. As does ch4rms from what I've scene. I did try to subtly elongate the jaw and bulk up the nose to bring out Ruffnut and Fishlegs respectively. Personally, I don't see freckles as a physical flaw. Is that a common view?

FjordMustang In reply to AvannaK [2011-12-02 14:24:56 +0000 UTC]
Yup, you are right on the defining features. I just still wanted to show my support of your own styles, too.
I personally like freckles a lot, given even at my age, I still have 'em. I think the view has changed over the years to see freckles as a sign of healthiness and down to earth beauty. In my mom's time, they were seen as a flaw. Today you can see fashion models in make up ads who have freckles, so they are for sure appealing.

Well thanks for the support. Yeah, I forgot to add that I don't plan on using this all the time. It was just really fun trying out new techniques. I might even find a way to blend that in with my usual style

In china especially if you have any blemishes on skin (freckles included) they think that is not as beautiful. I know this because my mom went to china and a little old lady took her arm and tsk tsk tsk'd her for all her freckles (my mom's a ginger, she can't help it)
But we think freckles are cute and full of character

AvannaK In reply to alkanphel [2011-12-02 03:05:22 +0000 UTC]
Biologically? Hmm, I think I had them coldblooded in Hitchups too, but that was before I made the dinosaur connection. I think many people don't realize that reptiles can be warmblooded and because Toothless was referred to as a reptile they make the assumption that he's cold-blooded as well. Not too many people put a lot of thought into dragon-blood, myself included.

alkanphel In reply to AvannaK [2011-12-02 03:24:09 +0000 UTC]
I did but I'm well known for being well odd. Besides dinosaurs are more related to birds.
Its one of those topics that can drag on for a good long while. Besides you mentioned that they're scales are very very fire resistant. Which means they resist changes in temperature. That would make any kind of heat exchange from environmental factors very trivial.

AvannaK In reply to alkanphel [2011-12-02 03:42:15 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, about 3/4 through Hitchups I realized it was possibly for reptiles to be warmblooded and that was when I decided dragons were deffo warmblooded. But I'm also loathe to change stuff I've already written. So my future works will have that concept - not an active one but one for the background for sure.

I actually don't mind going back and changing things.
In one of my fics, I started getting asked when a certain pairing would become official. Turns out that I had inadvertently written two characters that way. So I went back and turned the subtext into text.

Ooh, yeah that sounds like something big enough that I could never change. Sometimes stories tend to write themselves...actually, that's something that happens a lot for me. It's weird, but I feel like it's out of my hands once it's written. Pairings especially; I could never go back and alter what was written. I could only alter what their futures might be as I move through the story. I'm crazy.
