Anatomy came out a bit off but, you know what? I'm okay with it.
I should warn everyone... I started out sober for the line-art, started on a bottle of wine for the coloring, and finished the wine bottle before I finished.
Not. Good. Judgement.
This had a little unfinished blurb to go with it, but in my state all I could manage was one significant line. All you need to know is Astrid kisses Hiccup...and it happens much slower
than it did in the movie. And not on his cheek. And he maybe/kinda/possibly kissed back.Probably my last action before I'm back on the island. It's been a fun 36 hours of freedom though.

It's beautiful! I love Hitchups! What I love most about your art is that you have such a recognizable style. I can be browsing HTTYD art and see something and know "Yup, that's the Hitchups author." before even seeing your same. That's really amazing/awesome! I love this peice too btw. The emotions on Astrid's face are just wow.

Awesome and intense! Astrid looks a bit scared though. Maybe because of Hiccup's reaction or what'll mean for them and how it'll change them?
It's hard to tell what Hiccup thinks but his body language suggests that he's feeling possessive and maybe that is what startles Astrid and makes her uncertain how far she wants this to go.
Perhaps since she's a tough independent girl who would probably have a hard time getting close to anybody, especially a lover. Great picture though! I love Hiccup/Astrid way more than Hiccup/Camicazi being a movie fan so I enjoyed your picture and will definitely fave.

This is actually inspired from my story Hitchups . It ends with Astrid going off questing and Hiccup going off questing in their own ways (they're seventeen and itching to explore), but they're destined to meet each other again and again.
In fact, Astrid is the one who kisses him. She looks uncertain because he's discouraged her from doing as much before for his own person reason (which she continues to chip away at). But she goes for it because she's ballsy and Hiccup, obviously attracted to her, gives in and kisses back. I have a written blurb floating around in my notes somewhere. Maybe I'll find it later.

Actually, this is one of those Astrid characterizations I don't agree with. Astrid is levelheaded and has a fair grasp on social etiquette. We see her lose her cool when her ambitions and plans are messed with, but aside from that she's perfectly sociable. She's quick to thug-out at anyone who annoys her but she's plenty affectionate when she's not feeling threatened, especially to anyone she's sweet on. She's a go-getter and more of a social girl than a loner (Christmas cheer spreader? come on). She might stand apart from others but she still wants to be involved and in the know. yeesh, listen to me go on and on with character analysis
Hey, and remember, I'm a movie fan as well - and I still ship book!Cami with movie!Hiccup, because it is the most magical pairing in the world to me

OMG!! *jaw drops in awe and fear* I read that very same fan-fiction ages ago and loved it despite my preference for Hiccup/Astrid! Now I like this picture all the more because I loved that story mainly for the Norse mythology included in it and how Hiccup matures and grows as a real person not just a kid.
As for Astrid, that was just my stupidity trying to sound smart as I tried to understand and reason your picture. I meant no offence so I apologize if I offended you by saying that.
What you said makes sense but I was just trying to think out your picture so to speak and not just say, "Awesome! Draw more!" I was actually trying to be nice and give some real criticism although I guess I fell short in that matter.
It's a fantastic picture though and I love it all the more since it's based on one of the only HTTYD fan-fiction that actually drew me in and enthralled me. It was long too which totally rocked and I didn't even mind Camacazi in it which is rare since I'm not too fond of her.
Really good stuff and thanks for explaining that to me! The picture makes a whole lot more sense now and I can understand why you drew that more.

Please except my genuine apology for that because I didn't really read the summary of the story properly. I just assumed it was one. I will probably read it though so do forgive my stupid mistake.

You're thoroughly confused me this time with a couple points.
Are you still talking about the story Hitchups? Hiccup leaves before the final exam, travels to Miklagard, meets mermaids, learns how to man up a bit, gets Thor to take an interest in him, returns to Berk and helps defeat the demon in a new way... that one? Framherja? Because yes I wrote that, (unless there's a different fic that's eerily similar) and yes I draw a boat load of fanart for it as well. There is also Without a Hitch, which is the sequel of one-shots. Hitchups ended with no set pairing, just hints for a few possibly ones, Hicstrid included.
I'm fairly certain this IS the fic you're talking about since Elf Knight sounds very very familiar. Then again, it feels a lifetime ago that I was writing that.
And of course you didn't offend me! I just love psycho-analyzing characters so you'll have to forgive me if I go off on tangents with my views. It's just a lot of fun to me, but I never get upset and I hope I didn't come off as scary! I love people picking up on different interpretations of my pictures and I love hearing about them. That's the beauty of art!
You have me completely blindsided by saying you're not too fond of Camicazi. I'm sorry, I just have to ask - how?! The only reason I've ever heard of is because she's a "threat" to Hicstrid, even when she's from an entirely different medium of the fanbase (which, personally, I find just exemplifies how weak the H/A relationship is in the first place), so I don't really accept that as a suitable answer because it's so petty. Not to mention unfair to poor Cami! 
Anyway, I found the snippet that goes with this picture:
She couldnβt remember a single night of her life where she felt more attacked, more insulted, or more relieved. Happy. Saved.

She elevated on her toes with her last breath and kissed him. It didnβt take much, not with the glaring lack of distance between them. She feathered forward into his mouth and the child within Hiccup that once yearned for this woman had him gripping her upper arms at the contact and hugging her to him as he kissed her back.
It was brief. Reality and reservations drew Hiccup away from lips he once dreamed about. He held her at armslength.
βWe canβt,β he choked. He hated himself for it.
βWhy not?β He heard a slight mewl to her question, like she wasnβt quite fully seriously in case he was just playing some hard-to-get routine with her.
He learned further back to show that it was not a game. βItβs really complicated. You donβt want me. You wanted to be saved.β
βYou donβt want me.β Shock and sadness colored her voice. She missed a boat and she knew it.
βIβmββ How would he explain his choices? His bonds and...
Astrid was different. Maybe, it was because he held her in a higher regard, even after all these years, that he wouldnβt do that to her.
She deserved to grow old with someone. She deserved the Viking she wanted, not whatever he had become. She deserved someone like...

Okay, I don't know how I got so confused but maybe it was because I haven't had my coffee yet and I am very dull without my sacred coffee.
But that *was* the story I was talking about and I *was* Elf Knight. I remember having a conversation with you about this very topic I think. Which is real scary considering that I never expected to bump into you here after so long.
I dunno if you wrote on your profile that you did fan art but I never read that, see. Kind of creepy but kind of cool at the same time if you get my meaning. Anyhow, now I like the pictures all the more because they are based off your superb fan-fiction.
Also, I read the sequel or he first chapter but that one was a bit too dark and angsty for me since now I don't really like those things but that's just me.

Oh, that first chapter of WaH was the angstiest, by far (which I personally don't read much of either). I took a risk in opening with a really dark bang, but the following chapters are completely unrelated. Each chapter shows a different piece of the Hitchups world.

I know! It's freaky, right? Never would have thought to found you over here but stuff happens, lol. As for fan art, what can I say? It was a great story and definitely deserves the positive response it received including the pics drawn by fans. And as for the sequel, the first chapter was a bit sad so I was kind of opposed to it since I thought it would all be like that but now I guess I was wrong so I will definitely check it out. I also read the chapter with the vampire-like women and Hiccup. While it was kind of hot and badass it wasn't exactly my cup of tea so I passed it up. But now I will probably read it again since I definitely liked the original one and anything written by you will probably be good. I certainly want to read the one about Hiccup you mentioned so I will check it out when I get some food in my belly, lol. Thanks for the links and the constant replies to my ramblings.

I'd have to agree with you. I think you'd probably like the full scene quote (that I never finished). It would have given this a much different vibe, more bittersweet than passionate. You know me and my 'you can't actually be together so this is okay for now' problem.

I have no problem with Hiccup never being together with someone completely because he's now too much of a free spirit as well as, well... Could they really be in a relationship after all the crap that the village put Hiccup through, that's the sort of stuff that drive people to suicide, especially young teens.
You know the saying 'it takes a village to raise a child', but it only takes one word to kill a child and Hiccup had his entire clan killing him from the inside out for 15 years. That's where I think some of the emotional stuff is going to stem from.
But still, what the whole quote? PLEASE tell me and I'll tell you what I'm working on now....

I have to say that this one looks emotional. I remember when you had one short chapter here on dA talking about how Hiccup still remembered Astrid as the crush he had when he was younger.
Out of the subject, when I read the details for the deviation, I was all: OH GOD, OH GOD, OH GOD! 
I need to catch up with your story btw. I stopped reading it at ch. 4 (sorry...) because I was caught up with school and family stuff for awhile.
