A follow up to this picture/headcanon thing: moderndavinci.deviantart.com/a…

------------

In 75000 BC, the horrible war between the human race and the Precursors had come to a close, though in a destructive way.  A massive solar flare had struck the Earth, bringing upon what was essentially an apocalypse, an event that would later be called the Toba Catastrophe.  Buildings crumbled, the ground cracked, the sky burned.  And by the end of it, only a few thousand humans survived, and only a couple hundred Precursors.  The two hominids were forced to survive in this new world of ruin and ash.  And both species realized that the only way to survive was to work together in harmony.  And so peace was finally made.

The new world was formed by the group that had been founded during the war by the humans, Adam and Eve, the Assassins.  They used their Creed as a guideline for the world's people.  Freedom, equality, and responsibility were the foundations of this new society, and through this system sprung true world peace.  Everyone played their part to help rebuild the planet.  It was a slow process, and though there was definitely clashes between people, these conflicts were always resolved for the good of humanity.  This way of life gave the humans and Precursors true peace that seemed to last for years.  Until something went horribly wrong.

The founders of the Assassin brotherhood, Eve and Adam, had conceived two children soon after the Toba Catastrophe.  Two brothers named Cain and Abel.  Both were of course raised in the Assassin ways, and each played their part to help rebuild.  Abel worked with livestock, whereas Cain stuck to harvesting plants.  During their late teens, something dark grew within Cain.  Cain hated the fact that the rebuilding process was slow, and he hated that there was any conflict between ideals.  He hated having to question the idea of truth as the Assassins had taught him.  His arrogance and his jealousy of his brother, a loyal Assassin, drove him to horrible action.

Eve had tasked Abel with guarding her Apple of Eden, and making sure that no living soul would ever use its powers of control.  One day, Cain’s arrogance drove him to kill Abel and steal the Apple.  And when he touched the Apple, the device gave him a mark.  A mark that would let anyone who saw it know that it was he who committed the crime.  He was a wanted man.  His parents were forced to expel him from the Assassin brotherhood forever.  Cain went on the run, and started corrupting people as he went to become his followers.  Cain and his followers soon formed a new order, one determined to undo everything the Assassins have accomplished, arrogantly believing that it was their right to hold complete control over the world's people.  That group would become known as the Templars, and they used the Mark of Cain as their symbol.

The Apple never fully worked for Cain, and more often than not gave him trouble.  His mark made him a bullseye for the Assassins.  And that wasn't the worst part.  The Assassins managed to kill Cain eventually, but the person who did so had the mark transferred onto them.  And it slowly corrupted their thoughts, making them turn on the brotherhood.  The same thing happened to their killer, and their killer, and the cycle continued.  And as that went on, somehow, the Apple brought Cain back to life.  And thus he was a target again.  And each time he was killed, the Apple brought him back.  This effect wasn't shared with those who the mark infected, though.  Some say Cain is still alive today living in isolation, trying to keep his curse from spreading.

Whether this is true or not, one thing's for sure: his legacy, while only represented as a Bible story today, continues on.  The Assassins are still working to thwart the Templars despicable schemes to this day.

Ah Cain and Abel, Such a tragic story in my opinion. How I like to mix this into the AC universe is this: Eve had just left the Apple with Abel to guard and kept Cain has extra protection. But Cain was bitter inside, why should he always guard Abel and why can't HE hold the apple after all this a tool of POWER and and in his opinion could bring Humanity back to what it was before the war, before the Toba catastrophe. He thought that Mankind could not survive without order. So he began to talk to Abel about it. Surly his own Brother, his own flesh and blood will hear him out. But Abel replied to Cain that this a weapon that we have no right using, that we don't understand its true power and we can get people hurt. Cain began to get frustrated as he tried more and more and more to convince his brother but he wouldn't listen. Cain then tried to reach out to the apple but Abel stopped him and said "No Cain, I don't want you to get hurt please" but Cain blinded by frustration and anger tackled Abel and the both began to struggle. Both launched punches back at each other and despite the pain coursing through him Abel held back from really hurting his Brother because he thought that Cain was just upset that this whole rebuilding process was taking a long time. Abel tried to convince his brother one. Last. Time to get his brother to stop but before he could say anything he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. He looked down and his eyes widened.. Cain... his own Brother had stabbed him. Abel let go of the apple has he slumped down. Cain picked up the apple and at first hadn't truly realized what he had done until.... it did and when he did, he started sobbing and spewing out apologizes and saying how he didn't mean and it. But Abel despite all this wasn't mad, wasn't sad. He was understanding and said to Cain that he forgave him. Abel breathed his last breath and Cain just bawled and weaped for his brother. Eve then returned with Adam and well, i think you know the rest. Cain was exiled and ran for his life but despite all of this he kept to his ideals and principles and soon founded a new order: The Templars. He might have been the first Templar bit before that he was a Assassin, A Son... a brother.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I envision it too lol ^^
It's is pretty interesting how in the lore they show that the Templars were born from a disgruntled Assassin corrupted by power.

Yeah it really is such a interesting tale. Though I hate the Templars, I can't help but pity Cain. I don't know why but I just feel like he didn't mean to kill Abel but he was just blinded by his own ideas on how to save Humanity and ultimately that would lead to his brothers death, his own parents hating him and exiling him and to top it all off he now wore a mark that would forever remind him on what he did.

It gets more tragic if you add in the Supernatural factor and consider the idea that his curse of immortality would turn him bitter and stone-hearted over time, looking for anything scrap of power he could muster, to the point where he'd become the absolute worst that any Templar could ever offer.

It's a fantastic show! ^^ It's essentially about two brothers who travel all across the nation fighting ghosts and demons and solving ancient mysterious galore!  The writing is some of the best I've seen in any show, with ridiculously likable characters, mysterious villains, and extremely creative storylines.  I'd highly recommended it
It's actually the inspiration for how I wrote Gabriel's character in Project Thunderbird XD

It's pretty great And the entire show is on Netflix! Fair warning, it's a lot of episodes, but I binge watched them all over the course of a few weeks and rarely ever got tired of it XD Especially since it just gets better as it goes along.
Yeah, the face for Gabriel in that picture is even based off of the guy who plays Gabriel in the show XD

Here's my interpretation of Cain.
Cain believed that had Humanity not rebelled and distracted the Isu they would have managed to focus their efforts to stop the calamity. He argued with his Brother to see reason as he saw it but Abel was firm their parents believe that Freedom was a goal with attaining, their Arguments soon became heated, eventually Cain attempted to take the Apple entrusted to Abel, by force seeing it as a way to restore humanity to its original state, Able resisted citing its dangers but Cain was only enraged by this and blinded by anger he cut down his brother, the first human to kill another.

As he reeled back the realisation of what he had done slowly dawned on him he was so shocked at the site of his brothers body did not notice the Apple's glow until he felt a searing pain on his arm. He looked upon it and saw the Mark the device had branded him with. Ashamed of his murder but unwilling to back down from his beliefs even as he was exiled by his parents Cain along with the cursed apple journeyed across the wastes that had once been civilisation in search of fellow "enlightened" who shared in his beliefs. Encountering his Parents and Brothers follower's along the way who recognised the Mark and attempted to stop him time and again only to find the Mark restored him to life every time he was slain.

With most of the Isu technology lost in the event, Cain knew he could not restore humanity in body so he sought to do so with ideology instead, with the best and brightest among Humanity commanding the masses in place of the Isu using the mark of the Apple as their embalm the group would one day be known as the Templars began their mission to search out the lost Pieces of Eden and return the world to the order that had been lost.

"Just as I am undying so shall this dream of ours be undying as well, with this Mark as our symbol and with the understanding we alone possess we will guide and shepherd humanity for all time."

His story, like the Isu became the foundation of Humanity's legends for generations to come.
A to what actually became of Cain no one is certain? Not even the Templars know what became of their Father of Understanding.

That's pretty cool.  I always kinda thought the same, though I tend to villainize Cain a bit more.  I kinda just went with the interpretation they give in Supernatural and mixed it in with AC lore XD

I just stick with the Assassin's Creed mythology, mixing it with something else can get tricky if your not careful.

Avapithecus In reply to avenger09 [2016-09-05 20:39:25 +0000 UTC]

True.  But there's usually a lot of breathing room with the Isu stuff, since they give so little information about that era.

I made some ISU related art myself, if you are interested. Also, do you by chance make commissions?

I would love to see you making Prometheus - maybe giving "Fire" (Apple) to Eve?

I generally don't do requests and commissions, but I've been a big fan of your art for a while, so I feel like I can make an exception here.

I see you have the same headcanon with Prometheus that I do with Lucifer.  That's pretty cool.

Yeah, I always figured they are the same person, but now UBi ruined that headcanon, and confirmed that Prometheus is another name for Consus. And he died waaaay before Eve was born.
