“Our lives have never been easy ones. We spent our whole lives in the bitter ice, facing off against beast and environment trying to claim the top tier on the food chain. But now a new challenger has made its way onto the scene. In the lands to the south, where I sent my noble friends to settle long ago, there walks a demon unlike anything on this earth, a remnant somehow left behind from a past long gone. I still hear its terrifying screeching rattling in my head, shaking me to the core as I walk the continent to rescue my people from its evil. I cannot allow innocent lives to be in danger, especially when I'm the one that sent them there to begin with. It'll be a long journey, and the challenge at the end will be more treacherous than any Templar I've ever faced. I only hope I can survive to tell the tale once this is all over…”

Totally haven't been procrastinating on this ever since we finished Ragnarok XD

So this is the third and final of the short story fanfics that go along with “Aphelion”. I figured it would be a nice little tie up for all three storylines. “Ragnarok” finished the isu part, “Thunderstruck” tied into the Aren part, and now here we have “Food Chain” to finish off the Arktalaki part. Kinda like Thunderstruck, it doesn't necessarily advance the plot in any way, but there is one tint detail that I added into here that I know is gonna be super important if I ever do the second arch of fanfictions after Project Thunderbird (which knowing me and how stubborn I am about finishing storylines, I probably will XD I already have two new archs planned out after the whole Lucifer thing is finished).

Anyways, this story takes place 10 years after the events of Arktalaki’s storyline in Aphelion. After receiving a mysterious vision telling her that the settlers she sent southward are in serious danger due to a terrifying shadow demon, she packs up her bags and rides all the way across the continent until she reaches the grassy plains of South America. Once there, she's immediately faced with all sorts of dangerous ice age megafauna that aren't too happy to have this bizarre new primate invading their lands. Finding herself now at the bottom of the food chain, Arktalaki must put her survival skulls to the test in order to hunt down the shadow demon, save her people, and overcome her fear in the process. It's a short little adventure that I hope you guys will enjoy Especially if you're paleontology nerds like me lol

And yes I know the “shadow demon” creature is completely anachronistic in this story by like 1.8 million years but hecc off XD I couldn't have a story about South American megafauna without including one of those so let's all just assume it's some lone survivor that hasn't entered the fossil record because the fossil record is a bitch XD
