Description
After the Templars took over the Roman Senate, the Assassins were forced to do the same thing they did during the Kingdom Era: take it back and return liberty and justice to the people. They attacked from every angle they could, doing most of the hard fighting outside the Republic’s borders with their Celtic allies. However, they did a fair amount of fighting inside the Republic as well, like when a man named Spartacus, a former slave who broke free and became a master Assassin, led an unfortunately unsuccessful fight against Rome in hope of liberating an enormous population of slaves. But most of the attacks within the Republic were discreet. The most famous move the Roman Assassins made was their plot against the Templar puppet, Julius Caesar.
Julius Caesar had well earned his reputation as a ruthless fighter, conquering lands across the Mediterranean and Europe that no Roman general had been able to conquer before. This ruthless use of military power granted him favor with the Templars, though he never formally joined the order himself. Nonetheless, the Templars aided Caesar in becoming consul of Rome in 59 BC, and eventually Rome’s total dictator. During his reign, he aided his ally and occasional lover, Cleopatra, in her war against her brother for the crown of Egypt. Cleopatra was ultimately killed with a venomous asp by the Assassin, Amunet, in 30 BC, making Caesar's intervention ultimately useless in that regard.
Because of the threat that Caesar posed to the freedom and justice of the people of Rome and the world, the Assassins began to plot against him. Assassins, like the senator, Gaius Cassius Longinus, were eager to put a blade in Caesar. However, another Assassin senator, Marcus Junius Brutus, was hesitant. His deep friendship with Caesar left Brutus in a state of denial, not wanting to believe his best friend could be corrupted by the Templars. However, Brutus received a message from the Precursor, Juno, in a hidden temple he found under what would one day be the Colosseum. She revealed to him that if Caesar would be allowed to live, his actions would burn Rome, and the people that Brutus swore to protect, to the ground. Saddened but determined by this knowledge, Brutus knew he had to take action and kill his old friend. And so on March 15, 44 BC, 40 Assassins banded together and stabbed Caesar 23 times on the floor of the Roman Senate.
Following Caesar's death, the Assassins who did the deed were celebrated at first. After revealing to the people all that Caesar would have done with his power, the people were thankful for being rid of the tyrant. Unfortunately, the Templars struck back when their men, Marcus Antonius and Octavius, inspired a mob to form in Rome and cause widespread chaos. The riot forced the Assassins to flee to safety outside of Rome. The Templars quickly undid everything the Assassins accomplished and turned Rome’s republic into a dictatorial empire, with Octavius (now named Caesar Augustus) crowned as Rome’s first emperor.
Cassius, wracked with the guilt of the defeat, committed suicide on October 3, 42 BC. Brutus, wracked with the guilt of indirectly getting his best friends killed, committed suicide as well on October 23, 42 BC. The surviving Assassins tried to bring him back to life with the Shroud of Eden, an Isu healing device, but the artifact proved unable to do so. And so the Assassins sent the Shroud off to Jerusalem, where it would eventually have another big role to play.
As the Templars gained more and more power, the Assassins and the innocent lives they protected were put in more and more danger. For now the threat to liberty and justice was now as big as an entire empire.

Poor Caesar, the true Hero of Rome.
People like to use 'Good Republic Evil Empire', but it was really the other way around. The Roman Republic was beyond saving this point in time. The corruption of the later Republic and the elites that control it, the slave rebellions, civil war between Sulla's and Marius. Rome was a Republic in name only at this point.
Who was it who ended the civil wars and bloodshed if only for a while? Caesar.
Who conquer Gaul? Caesar.
Who brought unity and power to Rome not seen in years? Caesar.
Who did the people morn while the killers had to barricade themselves in the senate? Caesar.
Not only that, Caesar edict providing rights and protection for Jews who lived in Rome, as well as granting citizenship to various Gallic "barbarians" who had shown loyalty (including the entire eligible population of Cisalpine Gaul AKA modern Northern Italy).
If he had not been stab to death, he may have been able to have truly reformed the Republic's obsolete institutions and brutally murderous political culture.
Caesar might have been Brutus' biological father even. So BRUTUS MAY HAVE KILLED HIS OWN FATHER.

Caesar and Brutus really are tragic figures It honestly really kinda pissed me off how they handled his assassination in Origins XD No build up, no drama, zero of the emotional turmoil on Brutus's end. Brutus never wanted to do the killing but all his buddies kept telling him it was the right thing for Rome. It was a tragic heartbreaking moment in the man's life and Origins just kinda pisses it away by having it play out as some archaic heartless murder in the name of honor or some rubbish. Brutus doesn't even seem phased. I get what they were going for but it really doesn't work, especially when you read the Romulus scrolls which portray him a lot more accurately to real life. What they should have done is do the Egyptian setting only and then tackle Rome in a second game. It would've given the assassination of Caesar more room to breathe.

As with Pompey, Caesar saw Brutus as a close friend and he was just that. Brutus was really trying to keep Rome a Republic, at the cost of Caesar's life, but...you know the rest.
Dante put Brutus and Cassius in the lowest level of hell for what they did, right next to Judas Iscariot, but Shakespeare wrote that Brutus was "the noblest Roman of them all', and was hunted by the ghost of Caesar for his crime and given a warning of defeat. And after death, he was given a honorable burial by Mark Antony.
Really shows we are still debating whatever Brutus was a brave Republican, or a backstabber.
It really does seem like the Rome ending of Origins was rush, and out of place. The game main story should have ended on the beach, but I guess Ubisoft really wanted to tie things up.

If they wanted to tie things up, they should've included the assassination of Cleopatra instead Like they could've had the main story end on the beach and then have one of the dlcs be solely about Aya and maybe giving her a controllable snake instead of senu so that you could wrap up the whole event.
Instead of just shoving it into the comics like they're doing rn XD

I love it very much. I love the use of colors and choice of historical setting of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 B.C.E. Though I have a question what is a s is a Templar puppet are they templars themselves or the people who were influenced by the Templars. And I can't help but feel a bit sad for Caesar here, I mean there were a lot of Romans who actually liked him but like you said people did see him as tyrant. But in the end he gets betrayed by those he thought of as friend's. This is what makes me love the A.C games because of my love of history, like I love history so much it's a big passion of mine. Anyway great job

Glad you like it
Yeah, a puppet is just any influential person who themselves are influenced and regulated by another party or organization. According to the lore of the games, the Templars had a habit of whispering in Caesar's ears and using his power to achieve their goals and oppressive the people. Hence why the Assassins had to put an end to it.
I actually got really into history because of these games ^^ It helped spark a new field of interest in me.

I'm glad that is. I always like to see people get into history, I don't know why it just makes me happy. If you want here's a idea that you can do for a new drawing, you don't have to but I haven't seen a lot of people explore this time period. The Alamo during the Texan Revolution in 1836 against Mexico and it could feature like maybe Davie Crockett, Jim Bowie etc. You don't have to, just a idea . Anyway once again keep up the good work.

I actually did consider that for a potential fanfic once, since a lot of people asked me if I thought I could come up with something for it
I couldn't come up with much, and ultimately I scrapped the idea entirely. But the initial idea I had was that the protagonist would be an escaped slave who finds a place amongst the Assassins and fights alongside the Mexicans in order to stop the American Templars from taking over the land.

Hey if you feel confident in the idea then I say go for it, as a wise man once said " don't let your dreams be dreams" But I do like the idea. I actually came up with an idea like that bit instead it's an assassin who doesn't know who they should support, should they support Mexico in defending their land but ultimately support Santa Anna who is a very bad leader who did not treat his people right or the Texan who were fighting to form their own nation but sadly woth slavery. And of course they would Encounter Davie Crockett like what's the Alamo without David Crockett

But yeah, perhaps someday. For now I'll keep focus on the current fanfic I'm working on ^^
I have noticed a big pattern with a lot of my fanfic ideas: with the exception of the Civil War, the United States is always on the side of the bad guys XD I mean, when I wrote my War of 1812 fanfic, the main character was right there beside Tecumseh and the British Army ready and willing to take down that scumbag Andrew Jackson lol

I mean yes The U.S has done some bad things during its history like the "deals" with the natives etc. But it has done good. Personally I see it like this every and I mean every nation (yes even you Canada) has done some bad things in its history, Germany with the Nazis and WWII, Britain and it's imperialism etc. So I want to hear to your opinion.

I guess I just heard way more bad stuff than good stuff in US history class Like, I have no real sense of patriotism or anything, so I take a very neutral viewpoint initially. I have a very "Assassin-y" philosophy I guess XD The side of a conflict that's most likely to defend the people's liberty is who I generally support. And if all sides are equally bad (albeit for different reasons at times) than I just go directly to the side of the people themselves. So like with WWII, the Nazis were indeed some evil evil people for what they did, but the United States locked thousands of innocent people in camps, turned away hundreds of Jewish immigrants, and nuked two whole cities full of thousand of innocents. And in my personal beliefs, that is unacceptable. So yeah
I guess I just don't believe that war has two sides lol

I understand and hey respect to you. I guess I like to look for the good in everything and everyone. And I guess I am kinda patriot. Buy I like how were having a nice conversation us ally some people get triggered by now but nope. So I'm just going to add my two cents if that's okay. About the camp thing I think your talking about the Japanese interment camps during WWII now I'm not saying it was right it wasn't but the U.S had just been attacked by Japan and had now declared war and the general population of the public was scared so I guess fear can lead to hatred. Thought I never heard about the Jewish thing I'll look it later but about Hiroshima and Nagasaki yes they shouldn't have done it on a civilian Population and instead on a military base instead but President Truman now he had learned about the plan to invade mainland Japan and how that would have happened it would have cause the death of over a million people soldiers and civillans more that the actual amount of people who died in the atomic bombings and not only that the Japanese emperor was crazy he was willing to sacrifice the population rather than surrender so Truman decided to drop the bombs not only that but sadly it was war and men dow horrible things during and I guess since Japan started it with the U.S in 1941 I guess we had to finish it.

Yeah, no problem. I'm always happy to have a conversation with people, even if we disagree So long as the conversation remains civil and open, it's fine by me ^^
Like, I can totally understand that viewpoint, even if I see it differently. Like I said, personally I really take the Assassin philosophy to heart, and it's helped me through so much in life. So any innocent blood being spilt is like an instant deal breaker for me, regardless of the reasons behind it. But again, that's just me. As long as we can mutually respect each other's opinions, I have no problem with hearing the other side

Hey there it's me again. I hope your having a good day. Just saw your most recent piece if art and it's great as always. I especially like the coloring on this one. Anyway I have a question.. now quick background, a couple of minutes ago actually I saw you "Anthem" Story and cover image ( Seeing how it takes place during the War of 1812 I'm guessing it's like a nod to the Star Spangled Banner) and read the first few chapters and it's good so far, like how you added in old connor (MY BOI) but It seems like there's a big misconception as to why the United States declared War on Britain. Now you see the British were Forcefully impressing American sailors into the british navy against their will. That's one, two is the british were making deals with the Native Tribes to attack any frontiers family that move beyond the applachians and 3rd is the british were interrupting American trade by stopping our ships on our way to Europe and etc. Yes most likely to gain more land was probably a factor but I'm just adding it in so people understand that America Wasn't the big bad guy during the War of 1812 or " the only reason the Americans declared war was to invade Canada" I keep hearing and as a historian it simply isn't the whole truth. Not only that but I read the description of the Anthem cover pic and I just want to know why do you personally hate him, while a whole bunch of other people view him as one of the greatest presidents of all time. Same with William H. Harrison I mean the guy was only president for 30 days before he died of a cold. But still I'm not bashing your work I just want to know.

I know XD
When I was writing Anthem, I knew I was going to have to take a lot of creative liberties, which to me kinda sucked. The War of 1812 was always my absolute favorite time period in us history class, and as such I did a lot (I'm talking months and months of research and planning and scrapping old ideas XD) And because history on its own rarely provides a black and white storyline, I kinda had to focus on what made things flow best. The impressment thing I was already ambivalent about, and I just kinda brushed it off in the story as a Templar plot. Most of the American naval soldiers the British kidnapped were British deserters, so the Brits were mostly just stealing back their men to fight Napoleon. I tried to kinda take the "Yeah Canada ain't perfect, but at least we're not as bad as you Americans" kind of stance. Bit romantized I know, but what can you do? Lol
As for Jackson, he was a racist, power-hungry madman who nearly toppled the American economy and slaughtered hundreds of innocents. And Harrison was equally vial in his murderous tendancies. And I'm a person who lives in the state he helped found XD
But that's just my take on things

Especially WWII and Vietnam because both My Grandpa rest his soul fought in WWII and my dad fought In Vietnam and i always wanted to come up with ocs for them but I can't draw for my life, lol. Anyway random question, what's your Opinion on each of the President's on Mount Rushmore: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. In my opinion they all did great things for this nation and made it better alot especially Abe

I'm pretty much going to do what I did with the rest of these Give a summary of the time period and add in the canon lore from the Assassin's Creed universe. The Cold War is actually going to span across multiple pictures, since it consisted of so many different cultural and political movements (like Vietnam, the Summer of Love, the Civil Rights Movement, all that stuff). My grandfather fought in Vietnam as well
He had a pet tiger there actually XD And his father was at D-Day. Grant it, both of them hated being in war though...
Can't stand Washington, I take Connor's stance XD Thomas Jefferson had a few good things I liked, but I ultimately came to hate what he did after the Revolution. Roosevelt I don't really know enough about to give a solid opinion And Lincoln was one of the few historical figures I legitimately liked in history class XD

Nice can't wait to see it. Though what I think of them is this: Washington he is the father of our nation and was the commander in chief of the Continental Army and eventually became The First of 44 President's, Thomas Jefferson is a somewhat controversial figure, he wrote the Declaration of Independence, became the 3rd president and dud the Louisiana purchase. Though that came with the expulsion of the Natives and he was a slave owner. But here's the thing that I found out recently Jefferson after he purchased Louisiana baned slavery in that new territory and he began to ship new slaves back to Africa and they began to found a new nation Called Liberia which Is still around today which Is why their flag mimics ours. Roosevelt was president from 1901-1909 and was a war hero during the Spanish- American war and the big thing you need to know about him is he was a progressive, which meant the was against big business and was famously known for his "trust buster" and he was especially known for his preservation of the natural parks like Yellowstone which is where the Teddy Bear came from. And of course we all know about amazing Abe. But I respect your opinion. Also a hint of advice don't go and see the AC movie, it was terrible and a big waste of money. Hollywood can't make video game movies.

Oh god, how do I choose? XD I came up with dozens of potential time periods for future fanfics. Like, the one I'm in the process of writing right now is set in the Dutch East Indies. And I considered plenty of others, like the Red Power Movement, or the Celtic resistance against the Roman Empire, or even the Quasi-War with France.
But in all honesty, the one time period I want to see more than anything else in an Assassin's Creed game would have to be the Bone Wars of 1877-1892.
