WELCOME BACK TO SAUCEZ REVIEWZ: POKEPASTAS SERIES.

Pasta Name: Pokémon Dead Channel 2
Publish Date: November 2, 2011
Synopsis: After the mother of the protagonist in the original pasta was concerned about her daughter, she went into her room to check on her only to notice she’s absent, so she investigated the GameCube for possible answers for her whereabouts.
Fun Fact: According to the author, the Jirachi throughout the pasta is supposed to represent BRVR’s heart and/or subconscious thoughts.
Highlight: The metaphors
Quote: “BRVR tried to wash away the pain. It didn't work.” -In-game Textbox Message

BRVR, I'm taking on you once again! This time, on your sequel. This review was long awaited indeed. It took me so long for reasons actually. Getting sidetracked and procrastination were some of the reasons, but some of the biggest reasons why is because there's barely any information, readings, or analysis on this pasta. Sometimes, I do go to see what other people think of a certain pasta from time to time and I especially did that with my top 10 worst creepypastas list back last Halloween. There was only one reading of this sequel and it was from Silver Stories. So I was kind of on my own when reviewing this pasta, well excluding how I had the comment sections on the wiki and reading too.

So this begs the question for all of you pokepasta fans out there? Did you even know that Pokémon Dead Channel had a sequel before I told you about it?

I have friends and creepypasta fanatics on Discord who didn’t even know that there was a sequel for this pasta until I mentioned it. Heck, I didn’t know there was a sequel for it until I was working on my Top 10 Worst Creepypastas list. I’m hoping more people know about this one than meets the eye because I don’t think this one is as popular as the original. It seems like Sonic.exe’s sequel is more known than this sequel (sadly).

Story:
So it starts off with the protagonist from the original story's mother checking on her daughter since she's been up in her room all day and she thought it was time for an intervention.

It talks about how the daughter (which is the protagonist in the original story) has been depressed lately and how she's been screaming a lot lately. The mother assumes that it's because she's been into horror games lately.
Hold up! When did they get into horror games in the first story? At first, I asked that. Then I checked the original story and it does mention how she got more games and acquired a Gameboy as the years went past by. So I guess you can assume that she got into horror games during the time gap as it does state that she moved onto better games in the first pasta. However, it does feel like a red flag but it's hard to explain how because it kind of feels weird since you would think she would get used to seeing horrific things in the original if she's played horror games recently before. Then again, not every horror game has blood or gore, and I think part of it was from the shock factors of not expecting horror and gore from a game that isn't considered horror and how their once best friend became a monster.

So they find their GameCube with the controller on the bed so their mom plays the GameCube as they felt nostalgic from the intro of Pokémon Channel about it since they would play together from time to time. She assumed her daughter played it for nostalgia too, but she still wanted to investigate on why her daughters been so depressed lately.
I’m going to be honest with all of you, the mother in this pasta actually feels like a loving, caring mother. She could’ve been the aggressive type where they yelled at her daughter to get out of her room, but that’s not the case here. It’s probably my bias after reading Jeff the Killer’s stories, Clockwork, Sally, etc. Although, it’s strange how she’s spending time playing a video game in her daughter’s room when she was just concerned about if her daughter has gone missing or not. In fairness, she did play it to see what she’s up to in attempt to find if there’s an antecedent for her daughter’s depression and why she’s been screaming.

So only the "new game" option was available and it started off in the bedroom as usual as the mother noticed all of the bloody Pikachu decorations surrounding them. She especially noticed the Pikachu TV Z and now she understands why her daughter was screaming. The mother was fighting nausea while looking around the room. There was red everywhere and sharp fangs to add into the mix. The scare effects eventually wore off for the mother. The mother eventually saw the Jirachi picture and she knew it was Jirachi because it was one of her daughter's favorite Pokémon.
I know that feeling with my own parents. They won't know who Charizard is but if they'll recognize Pikachu and especially Milotic because of me.

The picture was creepy because it had a red X with bloody claw marks on it. The mom was a bit scared to examine the rest of the world, so they selected the start menu and went to journal as there were enTries (for some reason, there are words that have random letters capitalized throughout this pasta. Not sure if it's showing a hidden message or typos) and so they read on until an angry Pikachu abruptly closes the journal without command. The Pikachu growled in disapproval, scowled, and turned off the GameCube.
"Well then." Mother was insulted of all things and turned the GameCube back on.

Back at the blood-covered room, the Pikachu wasn't there anymore. The room remained the same with Pikachu Doll Z's looking at her. She froze in fear as she looked around the room, when she noticed a Jirachi floating in front of the door. The eyes were closed but there was a terrifying looking eye on its stomach and it was... hyper-realistic. Sigh... I know, I know... the most laughed at and mocked trope in creepypasta history: hyper-realism. I don't think I've ever seen this trope ever work in a pasta before. I have seen some that have made it work decently like NES Godzilla. In fact, I believe this is the first pokepasta I have covered so far that uses the hyper-realistic trope.

So do I think it works here? It does feel out of place or out of nowhere like another of other pastas. In Squidward's Suicide, the hyper-realistic eyes didn't need to be there and even if you removed them from the story, it changes like nothing from it. Jirachi's eye on the other hand does have a bit of purpose of being there and it does build up to something later on. It's not their own eyes that are hyper-realistic, but a third eye on their stomach instead. So I don't know if it works well or effectively as it should have here or not, but I guess we'll find out.

The mother describes the details of the eye as it looked cracked, broken, and bleeding. The colors of it were a gray-scale and it was staring directly at her. The mother was relieved when the thing left. She was holding her breath and let it out. It was like an icy claw holding a grip on her and just released her. I have to appreciate the descriptions the author gives here.

She attempted to turn off the GameCube but something compelled her to stay. She decided if that thing popped up again, the game was going in the trash. I do wish she specified that "something" because it does make it seem like she's staying for no other reason than just curiosity which isn't always a bad thing, just generic at worst. For example, did she stay because she wanted to investigate what cause her daughter to scream earlier even more?

"Pika." She turned around in game and the same Pikachu was was a melancholy face standing in front of the TV. The Pikachu turned the TV on as the mother feared what would happen if they didn't. She would rather be with the Pikachu than the Jirachi. It changed to PNF which was a news channel featuring a Psyduck that reports. The Psyduck didn't speak or do anything. The camera panned towards the news station to show Jirachi floating through a crimson carcass strewn Meadow, burning forest, bloody beach, and a dead snowy mountains from different angles. Jirachi stopped in the middle of the darkness on the screen and turned to face the mother as the Psyduck's eyes turned black and faced the screen. The textbox saves "Save X." A bit cheesy but whatever.

The Pikachu changed the channel to an egg channel with a white egg wobbling in a void of darkness and it had cracks and blood dripping from them. I don't even think the blood needed to be there. The TV was turned off by the Pikachu. The textbox questions this, "BRVR wants to know if you'll play with him?" O / X options appeared with O being yes and X being no. The Mother selected yes. BRVR gave a toothy fanged grin. "You're going to regret that." "And I sure as hell did." One detail I like about this pasta is how in this sequel BRVR is referred to as "The Pikachu" rather than BRVR until the first textbox is brought up mentioning his name since the mother isn't as familiar with BRVR as her daughter is.

They went outside and witnessed a red sky with dead bodies around lying everywhere. The Pikachu wasn't fazed at all by the scene wandering in the meadow. It was like the field wasn't different with bodies. BRVR went to a hole and pulled out a hyper-realistic eyeball. He wanted to play catch and fetch with it, so the mom mistakenly picked up a dead poochyena body instead which the mom dropped down immediately. BRVR laughed hysterically. BRVR motioned to pass the eye ball, so she complied. BRVR gave it back and the mom couldn't help but turn the screen a different direction because she didn't want to stare at the eyeball any longer. The screen faded, indicating that the minigame sequence was over. So BRVR ate the eyeball for shock values. The screen faded as the sky was now a dark grey color with a dark tint as BRVR grinned melancholy and then walked back to the house like a zombie.
(So in my notes, I have star symbols in front of the points I made to indicate that that's me giving my own commentary rather telling summarizing or telling the story. And I have one that just says "comparison" for this part and I completely forgot what I meant by that when I wrote that on there. I'm not sure if I meant to compare the blood and gore from this sequel to the original or what. Oh well.)

There was a trail of blood on the house floor that wasn't there previously. Mom followed it to a closet like compartment as she was preparing for the worst, she opened the door and inside were walls covered in blood and Skitty limbs and head adorned on top. It was three seconds until BRVR closed the door and growled at the mother. He ran back out towards the bus stop. The mother obviously tagged along. It lead to the forest with charred bodies from the aflame forest. There was a campsite with fleshy bonfire, burning bodies fueling the flames and projector. BRVR tinkered with until the ambience became a starry sky. It played a buggy, glitchy movie with Pokémon being maimed and killed. Dead bloody corpses and pretty much everything in different poses. They were in animation with it being choppy and shaky because the game clearly wasn't made for movies. The Jirachi with the eye was in every scene and in a flash in the static for every now and then. They looked tortured than murdered. It showed scenes of it being drown in a lake of blood, impaled by a stake, hung from ceiling, and variety of other misfortunes.

The Jirachi looked like it was suffering but it couldn't die no matter what. So, in case you didn't read the fun fact, the Jirachi is supposed to be a metaphor for BRVR's heart and subconscious thoughts. The movie ended and started to charge and struck the projector. the screen turned black except the body-fueled fire as everything grew a dark grey tone. Get used to this dark tone tint stuff by the way. BRVR painfully strolled through the forest back to the bus stop with the face void of emotion. Back home, the mom took time before the next outing and found a binder to find a bunch of Pokémon cards of Pokémon that were morbidly disfigured. Oddish was brown and wrinkled with dried prune and maggots crawling out of its eye sockets and slashes in its carcass. Magby hung from its collar-like thing on neck with a few tendons connecting to its head to its frail body. Funny story, I feel like I've learned new English terms about the body from this pasta. The Milotic card had them with a dried out snake skin with puss leaking out of the cracks. Oh god. And Poochyena was just roadkill, mangy, blood-clotted fur and had flies going around them with foam coming from their mouths with black soulless eyes.

The Jirachi card was a demented version of it and the Pikachu card was chilling as it was curled in a ball with eyes closed floating in a red, fleshy void and bobbed up and down moving the camera. It was like a fetus in a womb. The mom noticed BRVR was holding a Pikachu Doll Z it was being somber and it was like a lost child looking for his mother. Textbox asks, "Do you know what's happening to me?" The mom selected "X" because they were clueless of what's happening. BRVR sighed looking defeated so she went off to the bus stop to Cobalt Beach. BRVR went to the ocean swimming out of sight, screen fades with everything becoming gray scale once again. BRVR come back looking fearful. The textbox said "BRVR tried to wash away the pain. It didn't work." I like this part and metaphor. Kind of creative.

BRVR slowly walked back to the bus looking around paranoid. Back at the house, there was Pokémon Mini which contained six minigames. It was a glitched mess when the mother tried to interact with the minigames. Sharp teeth seem to be floating in a solid black background with a heart appearing but then the fangs eat the heart as the positive beeping noise appeared indicating that she did something correctly. This continued with the eyeball appearing once again and the fangs were eating it, which resulted in a chaotic mess of noise high pitched noises so the mom exited out of the minigames. BRVR was standing in front of the back door. She knew what he wanted so she followed to the next outing using the bus. It was Mt. Snowfall with frostbitten bodies piled up and it was like a sad graveyard, the mother commented and BRVR felt the same way judging by his body language. It just goes straight to the Ruins of Truth. It was pitch black and there were eyeballs instead of petals on the flowers that lit up the ruins. That is cheesy. Come on.

BRVR lit up the flowers which lit up the room with a dark red hue as the stone tablet became visible. The stone tablet asks,"Redemption?" O / X
The mother was anxious so they selected "O" and hoped BRVR pressed the O button, but the tablet sank into the ground causing a hole and the pillars lit up around the hole and the mother felt a pit form in her stomach. Probably a metaphor for what's about to happen. The ground shook and Jirachi emerged and the textbox says "There is no redemption." The eyeball rose over its head and the screen went black. It was on the egg channel now with the bleeding egg starting to glow and hatched. A normal looking Jirachi popped out of the Jirachi and it flew off the screen. The channel changed to a static channel titled "444" Good thing it's not 666.

The background became a red, fleshy color just like the Pikachu card earlier and BRVR came on the screen as the textbox says, "BRVR will never be born." and the same eyeball appeared on his stomach. And that's where the eyeball on BRVR's stomach is from. Abruptly, it went to the title screen and continue option was missing. Dumbfounded, the mother aiming to choose the "new game" option. The mother couldn't move from being so petrified from the horror she just witnessed and it's like it all came back to them. "You're an idiot" was screaming in her mind. I laughed at the more than I should have. And so the mother chose the "new game" option.
"Mom, why are you in my room?" It was the daughter. I got so many questions, but I'll save them for my extra thoughts.
The mother was relieved as the daughter looked at her like she belonged to a mental asylum and the mother felt like she should be. The mother told the daughter to go to the master bedroom and wait for her there. When she was about to throw away the disc of Pokémon Channel, she saw the eye of Jirachi in the mirror. Aaaand that's even more confusing than the Pikachu Doll Z at the end of the first one.

Extra Thoughts:
There are mixed thoughts on this one as far as I’m aware. And honestly, I feel the same way too about it. My thoughts for it are a mixed bag. I feel like this sequel somehow is better than the original while at the same time it feels way worse than the original.

I feel like it doesn’t do some of the cheesy aspects that the original did but at the same time, it does still have the cheesy aspects and the torment for the mother by BRVR felt so forced. I didn’t really enjoy reading it as much as I did the original. Some people say that this is just the original but with the mother instead, but I disagree because it does bring new things while BRVR is giving a tour for the mother from area to area. Plus, the visits to each area doesn’t last long, so it’s not like the dragged on for so long, but that is another issue I have with it. It feels a bit rushed with those outings too, which I’ll get into more depth later on.

The biggest plot hole that did honestly bother me throughout the whole pasta: what happened to the Pikachu Doll Z that appeared behind the protagonist in the original story that was in her room? I was wondering if it was going to pop out any second to attack the mother or something. The daughter doesn’t even bring them up either. Although it does mention how confused the daughter was when asked to go to the master bedroom, it’s strange how it’s not brought up.

Also, what was the point of the “Save X” message? I’m genuinely curious about that one because I feel like it doesn’t add up to anything, at least not that I’m aware of. Save ex-friend as in her daughter or something like that? The only other thing I can think of are the X’s as no options for the choices, but that’s it and I’m not sure if they add up to anything.

So, at one point, I noticed people in the comments of the pokepasta wiki were claiming there was a hidden message that says, “I STILL LOVE YOU” and I was confused by this as I couldn’t find any like that in the story unless it’s really that hidden. But I believe they’re referring to Silver Stories’ reading of the pasta because within the video, it spells out that message as the video proceeds.

My Theory:
-BRVR wanted redemption from all of the things he’s done and to end his torment from his player’s abandonment. But BRVR was already in so much pain from the torment that he couldn’t wash it all away and there were no chances of redemption left in him, so he wanted to be erased from existence, that being the game. If the save data is deleted, then his life would be put to an end. You know something funny? In my original review of the original pasta, I mentioned how a friend say that BRVR wants the player to delete the save file data which metaphorically means ending his life and that’s what I would make in my version. Turns out that was the case all along.
-When the mother selected “new game”, it erased BRVR, and they got their daughter back to start a new life. It undid everything that happened like the Pikachu Doll Z that probably attacked her, just like what a “new game” option would do. That’s why the daughter doesn’t bring up the Pikachu Doll Z, I guess. I know that’s sounds way too supernatural and unrealistic to be true, but it’s just a theory.
-The only thing I’m confused about and that I struggle to add up is why the Jirachi eye was in the mirror. Is it supposed to be a callback to the “there is no redemption” message and that despite resetting and throwing away the game, they still can’t get rid of BRVR? Because it isn’t a haunted game, but BRVR got life like features the more the daughter played the games. I guess the eye was supposed to be for scare factor purposes that BRVR isn’t completely gone.

Let me break it down. This is how I feel for the scores of each category:
1 – The story- 4 / 10
2 – Creepy factors- 3 / 10
3 – Emotional impact- 2 / 10
4 – Flawlessness- 3 / 10
5 – The effort- 5 / 10

Although I really like the symbolism and metaphors of the story. I feel like for a lot of them, you have to either look very deep into the story to notice or understand them or you have to look at comments to know these things just like I had to. That’s also another problem I have, the author doesn’t quite directly state some of these things within the story or are just unclear like how Jirachi is supposed to be a metaphor for BRVR's heart/subconscious thoughts. Even though, I already knew Jirachi was a metaphor for BRVR’s heart before doing my analysis and reading of the pasta, I’d probably be left out confused about the purpose of Jirachi even after a couple of reads if I didn’t know what they meant beforehand. Plus, I didn’t enjoy reading this as much as I did with the original, and it’s honestly confusing and ambiguous of a story too for some parts of it.

Also, I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t get in depth with some of the sections of the game as some of them felt rushed in the story, especially for Mt. Snowfall. It’s true that the main focus of that section was the Ruins of Truth, but I wish they did some exploration around first before going to the ruins. But another part of me is telling myself that that’s not the point of the pasta or what BRVR was trying to show the mother. Speaking of the ruins, I’m surprised the mother doesn’t point out the text written in blood on the walls (that was mentioned in the first one)? It could’ve let the mother know how much of a close connection BRVR and her daughter had. And that's another problem I have with this sequel, I feel like it doesn't do as well of a good job with complementing the original as it should have. And while it was great that it brought new things to the table, I feel like some more things from the original story could've been referenced.

It still does some of the cheesy blood and gore stuff like the original does and I don’t think the creepy factors are as effective as they needed to be. I can see where it was going with the gray-scale scenes with indicating the dark and gloominess of the situation with BRVR or maybe it's showing how BRVR wants to be erased along with the world, but it's not as effective as they could've been. I also think it's the reflection on BRVR's dark and gloomy downfall and how he's lost everything within those areas.

Now for the emotional impact, I think it’s not as effective compared to the original because I think the original story did it way better because BRVR and the daughter have had a connection with one another, and it can heartbreaking to read the protagonist’s reactions as she witnesses what her former, long time virtual best friend has become. You can sometimes feel to the daughter’s reactions in the original. The mother here kind of sees him as a twisted Pikachu even though she knew he was one of her daughter’s favorites. The mother does give reactions, but I feel like it’s not as effective knowing the context of not having a strong connection with BRVR compared to her daughter. The other emotions I felt from this story was the textbox saying that BRVR couldn’t wash his emotions away.
Most importantly, was there any point of BRVR tormenting the mother? Plus, BRVR seemed angrier towards the mother compared to the daughter. My guess is because the mother had no business of being there or because BRVR didn’t want the mother to do those things like checking the binder or closet and to resume the tour. I feel like it should’ve clarified and went into depth about how the mother and daughter played the game together back then whenever the mother had the opportunity to do so.

Sometimes, you got to think of creepypastas in the protagonist’s perspective, but I don’t think it’s as effective as it should’ve been. The mother may be visiting the game for nostalgia purposes. And it makes you wonder if the mother is so concerned about her daughter, why is she wasting time playing one of her daughter’s games if she has the feeling of her getting kidnapped? Sure, she was investigating to see what caused her depression and all, but shouldn’t being concerned about your child’s physical conditions and whereabouts be more important than their mental health? It’s strange but what matters is they reunite at the end.

I do appreciate the way the author phrases some of the details of messes and their descriptions as well. It could’ve been phrased so simply and boringly, but I’ve learned some new terms about body parts from this story. But just like with what I said with Blood Whistle, complex wording doesn’t always make a complex story.

So, there was much thinking for weeks on the rating and ranking of this sequel which is also why this review had various delays was because it was hard to think about where I should put it at. This took longer than the decision to decide the rating for the original Forever Mine pasta which took nearly a week to decide. I’m going to say that it is worse than the original, but it’s mostly because story-wise and emotional impact-wise, I think the original is better. Therefore, I think the sequel doesn’t have as many of the cheesy aspects, but it doesn’t connect with the original story as well as it should have. Some people have said that the two stories feel like two completely different stories with similar props and roots thrown in. But I think the original was a better read. So, if the original got the spoiled pasta rating, then that means this sequel gets the SPOILED PASTA rating as well. I’ve noticed people in the comments (especially in Silver Stories’ reading) are questioning if this sequel was really necessary. I feel like the author was really trying to expand lore on BRVR and I can always appreciate those types of things, but I feel like it could’ve been executed way better in some areas and connected better with the original pasta. I think Pokémon Dead Channel can work as a stand-alone pasta, but I feel like this sequel tried to give BRVR’s story some closure (despite the eye at the end), but I feel like the original story alone would've been enough for closure. I feel like the sequel made me ask more questions than it did with answering the ones I had for the original pasta. Who knows? I might make a re-evaluation of this one someday, only next time I understand the metaphors and symbolism a lot better.

I really think this sequel should've stayed focused on the daughter instead of the mother because with the mother, there's only limited amount of things BRVR and her could do with one another since they are not as connected compared to her daughter. I think the beginning of this sequel should turn out where the Pikachu Doll Z at the end of the first one ended up being a hallucination or something. It might cliched but here's how I think it would've worked. The daughter is haunted by the hallucinations of the Pikachu Doll Z while she's trying her best to live her life because she wanted to avoid going back to her life of video games due to the paranoia of BRVR attacking her and damaging her further. She sees the Pikachu Doll Z everywhere and people in public think she's crazy and they isolate away from her (even though she already isolated herself from others) because they think she's crazy, which is making her suffer from the same insanity and loneliness BRVR went through after feeling abandoned by her. But she eventually snaps and goes back to Pokémon Channel to give BRVR's story some closure as the events of the sequel take place. One misconception people have with the original pasta is they assume the Pikachu Doll Z killed the protagonist, when that's not the case and it does make that clear here at the end. But, BRVR said before the Pikachu Doll Z was behind the protagonist that "he wanted the player to suffer the same way he did", and nothing about killing her. Not to mention, the daughter briefly thinks about wanting to make things better with him, but BRVR wanted the daughter to suffer the same pain of losing their best friend, the same way he lost his. The only way for the daughter to lose BRVR would be for him to die, which is something he tries so hard to do. You could have the daughter communicate with BRVR on what she could do to help him and what he wants. The story would pretty much be "if the daughter ends BRVR's suffering of being born, then BRVR will end the suffering with the daughter no longer seeing the hallucinations of the Pikachu Doll Z's." But you can still add the eye of the Jirachi at the end for scare factors that BRVR is still there, just with a little more explanations and reasoning on why the eye is there in the mirror with the daughter. Now I could argue that the real reason why it had to be the mother was because BRVR was just to upset with her daughter to have her do anything to help him, but I still feel like the daughter would've been more fitting for this sequel as well.

I feel like there is potential with these two stories. I can’t say this sequel an insultingly bad pasta though, unless you’re not a big fan of blood, gore, and gruesome body horror. But I think this sequel needs some work to be done to improve on it. Far from flawless, but not too terrible either.

So I hope this review was worth the wait and apologize for all of its delays. If I still misinterpreted some of the symbolism within this pasta, please let me know. I'd like to know what you guys think of this.

Next time on Pokepasta Reviewz:
We're going to listen to an allegedly deadly soundtrack that "apparently" caused illnesses and suicides.

By the way, I'm no longer going to list out the pokepastas that I will review anymore since I've been awfully inconsistent with the list.
