WELCOME BACK TO SAUCEZ REVIEWZ: POKEPASTAS SERIES.

I apologize for taking so long. I did have to go on a hiatus from these reviews, I was legit suffering from burnout from analyzing and reviewing by the beginning of the script of this one. Also, I was working on other bigger projects, but I'm finally back now.

Pasta Name:
Disabled

Publish Date: March 9, 2012

Synopsis: The protagonist gets a Wigglytuff who literally struggles to use the move Sing.

Fun Fact:  There’s a reference to Lost Silver in this pasta.

Highlight: DISABLED's freak-outs and protagonist’s reactions

Quote: “I just wanted to Sing…” -DISABLED

Today we are going to review the pokepasta Disabled
and boy, does it bring some new things to the table
also my commentary for this review has been cursed
for every commentary I make, I have to write a verse
so you will find that every single line will have to rhyme
the commentary may take more time, but I will be fine
I’m not actually cursed, I just wanted to be cute is the thing
because this pasta involves the moves Disable and Sing

Story:

So it starts off with Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff being our protagonist's favorite Pokémon. She dreamed of having a Jigglypuff plushies as a little girl and own lots of Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff.

I questioned where do you get plushies of Wigglytuff
Turns out they are almost as common as Jigglypuff

She played as Jigglypuff in Brawl and would often hum with the tune when Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff would use Sing in the core games.

The protag got Soul Silver and immediately wanted to get Wigglytuff so badly, only to find out they have to geo to the Safari Zone to get Wigglytuff as it was not active for them so they had to wait until they got to Kanto.

Before you ask if she could've just gotten Igglybuff
Soul Silver requires you to breed with Puff or Tuff

After some time when the Safari Zone was available, the hunt for Jigglypuff was on and it wasn't easy for her. The next day, she caught a Jigglypuff and named them Juun, she kept the sing move because it was nostalgic to her to hear and listen to the tune.

I’m pretty sure the tune sounds different in every gen
but the melody’s the same, so that’s a win-win

Things got busy at school but they got to work whenever they had free time. They wanted a Wigglytuff but she didn't want to evolve Juun and the Safari Zone has proven its dislike for the protagonist, so they used the Wireless Trade asking for a Wigglytuff with no expectations. They wish they were more picky about this later on. She offered a newly bred Totodile with some killer moves and at level 6.

I would talk about how she could've just bred Igglybuff with Juun
but I guess she couldn't thought of doing that so soon
and not everybody knows about the Ditto/Destiny Knot trick
so we can't really fault her ignorance of the gimmick
but come on, why couldn't you just breed with another fairy?
you had to have known about egg groups for the Totodile you carry

After two weeks, the protag was ready to use the moon stone on Juun only to check for the global wireless trading for the last time and to get the Totodile back if no one wanted him, but it didn't send them to the main menu of the wireless trading, the trade music started and they got their Wigglytuff.

Well, with how all of that went
I would say that's pretty convenient

The protagonist immediately went to their summary and saw it was level 26 and it was named DISABLED in all caps and you cannot change nicknames of traded Pokémon.

The information was odd with a "gloomy" nature and its only move was Sing. The protag assumed it the gloomy nature was timid such as being shy or sad. She was annoyed that it only knew Sing, so they thought about using their TMs since the protag wanted to try Wigglytuff in battle despite the off information. They picked the best TM's and they were almost sure would work and they ended up picking Hidden Power, Swagger, and Explosion.

Wigglytuff with Explosion? Now that’s an odd choice
but at least they have Sing so they can use their voice
using random TM’s was something we did as a young bunch
like the time I taught my Dialga how to use Focus Punch

The protag went to the grass patch and a wild Ponyta appeared. She selected for Wigglytuff to use Sing, but DISABLED failed to use Sing. The protag knew that Sing didn't always work so they didn't think anything of it.
Ponyta used Tail Whip. So DISABLED used Hidden Power and it barely did a nick of damage. Once it was their turn again, they used Sing but the screen acted like it used Sing but without any sound. A textbox came up and said "Sing was disabled". Protag just stared at the screen questioning how Sing was unusable like it was a stupid trick because the Ponyta never used Disable on DISABLED. Ponyta used Tail Whip once more and Wigglytuff shook a bit like it was suffering from an effect. It looked like the sprite changed, the protag assumed they probably got a glitchy Pokémon and they were rightfully angry about this about losing such a good Pokémon and they didn't want this "glitched" Pokémon ruining their game, so they chose the option to run from battle, but the attempt to flee failed as the textbox said "DISABLED wants to fight. You could not leave the battle."

I can’t remember if it says that when you’re affected by Mean Look
and I can’t tell if DISABLED or their Original Trainer are the real crook
because the protag has the right to be mad at their Wigglytuff twitching
since the bugged Pokémon they got can cause their game to be glitching

"Oh come on!" The protag said loudly, thinking it will ruin her game. They thought Ponyta would attack for its next turn but its sprite shook as if it were poisoned. "Ponyta froze in fear. It might not attack."

I had to check if the poisoned Pokémon sprites would shake
and it doesn’t even happen like that in the Johto remakes
this is a strange little detail to point out indeed
I think the protagonist was confusing this with gen three

Attempted to run away again, but it said "DISABLED wants to fight. You cannot leave the battle.", the textbox said. The protag didn't even see the text was different this time.

And you probably thought what I said was a weird thing to point out
The differences are “could not” and “cannot” without a doubt
there is only one thing that bothers me about this specific bit
how did you know it was different that time if you didn't even notice it?

The protag chose to fight gain with Hidden Power but even that was disabled. They chose another move with Swagger and that was also disabled. The protag questioned if the original owner who gave her the Wigglytuff was doing all of this or what they did to the poor thing. The protagonist knew escaping was their goal for this battle and they had to get rid off the Wigglytuff immediately. The protag knew they could just turn off the game but they wanted to see what was happening and see what was wrong with "her" Wigglytuff.

You could’ve just said you were too paranoid about your game breaking
after turning it off and back on because your glitchy Wigglytuff was shaking
as in DISABLED being glitchy would corrupt the rest of your game
because the curiosity trope is cliched, but I guess this is okay
I’d be curious too if my Astarte was acting the same way
you readers would follow if your Pokémon wasn’t acting sane
so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal for my taste
but let’s just hope this potential doesn’t go to waste

The only options were Sing and Explosion as they were left to use since Sing was disabled for the previous attempts they might as well use Explosion as it would end it for both DISABLED and Ponyta but they thought of it as a good thing to end the battle. "Explosion was disabled."

Suddenly, more texts came up abruptly.

"DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled." It was doing it on its own as the sprite started shaking more and more than before. "Ponyta was frozen in fear. It can no longer escape from battle." The protag's heart was pounding and could relate to the Ponyta.

The texts repeated:

"DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled."

"DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled"

"DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled"

"DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled. DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled. DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled. DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled. DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled. DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled. DISABLED tried using Sing. Sing was Disabled."

Each time the text passed, Wigglytuff's sprite turned dark and darker.

"DISABLED used Struggle."

It was happening automatically
The protag watched in horror like it had no moves to use and Struggle didn't even hit Ponyta. It was like it was hurting itself.

So it looks like DISABLED is beating itself up out of frustration
because it can’t use Sing despite its determination

Ponyta fled from battle and the protag wished they've gone with it because Wigglytuff was first in the party which means they were out in the overworld with the protag's character. Its colors looked dirty and red was on it. The protag turned their character to talk to it. "..." The protagonist was desperate to find out what was up with her Wigglytuff that they were so thrilled about getting at first.

"..." "I just wanted to sing." The protag who was talking assuming it was a voice over. They talked to the Wigglytuff again. "Why... Why... Why can't I sing?" "Just... Sing... Sing..." For every interaction, its cry grew softer like it was toy breaking.

Toy breaking? Like if you forget to charge Tattle tail
as them saying “uh oh” becomes grindy and stale?
Why am I referencing a game that’s likely forgotten?
I don’t know, I think my memory’s gotten rotten

The protag felt bad for Wigglytuff at this point. The protag turned off the game to try to reset back when they got the Wigglytuff and before they used them in battle. Sadly, they didn't get far and encountered another Ponyta.

Just when you thought it was all over
your progress to freedom only got slower
Is that the same Ponyta? That’s up to debate
But it seems you have met with a terrible fate

They chose to run but it was all the same. "DISABLED wants to fight. You cannot leave the battle." Ponyta didn't even make a move and the options menu didn't come up.

"DISABLED tried to use Sing.Singsingsingsingsingsingsingsingsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss"

There was so much text it moved off the box itself. It was finally glitching out.

"DISABLED used Struggle. It Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled. And Struggled."

With each struggle, Wigglytuff took more damage, but this time, Ponyta was getting hit too. The wild Ponyta fled from the battle. They thought the fight was over, but the battle screen stayed up. After massive button mashing, the screen faded to the evolving screen. The protag was in shock as her heart sank and eyes watered, watching Wigglytuff's sprite become something else with the left ear torn off, and red pixel covered the broken end. Its tired eyes were pitch black with red dots as pupils. Its mouth had red coming from it like blood was dripping out.

What’s with creepypastas having pitch black eyes and red pupils?
Even though this was two-thousand twelve, the trope’s kind of old

"Why can't I sing? Why? Why?" "Can you sing?"

"Yes | No" options pop up on the screen. The protag picked "no" because they wanted all of this nonsense to end.

"You're lying, you... can sing. Give me your sing."

So BRVR knew the protag was lying about loving him from being gory
Skye claimed the protag was lying about not loving her in their story
Now DISABLED claimed the protag is lying about not being able to sing
Not a fan of clichés but it's funny how this seems to be a running thing

After selecting "no" for 4-5 times in a row, the following message came up, "Sing.Sing.SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS(&&(($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$"

The speakers let out a high pitch screech, making the protag drop her DS to get away. She ran out of the room and called a friend. They couldn't touch their game anymore after that. Her friend came over seeing the protag in a state of panic. She laughed at them but the protag said they weren't picking up the game anymore. She picked it up and shook her head, turned it off, closing the DS, and giving it back.
"I think you broke it" she said as she left the room and headed towards the living room.

"I think your game is broken and your save file might be doomed
but I'm just going to give your DS back and walk to your living room"

Her friend did decided to stay with them for the rest of the night and the protagonist couldn't get the image out of their head with the creepy looking Wigglytuff at the end. The next morning came as their friend was sitting next to her, the protagonist put "her" Wigglytuff up for trade. A Cyndaquil offer was given. The protagonist rushed to trade and hit the button as hard as she could, wanting to hurry up and the trade went through and got the Cyndaquil in return.

There was one odd thing though. They said that the Cyndaquil they now have and whoever had him named him "Hurry".

To be honest this callback to Lost Silver was fine
but it’s confusing with Hurry because HE DIED
so my curse to rhyme will be lifted
since this creepypasta is finally finished

Further Thoughts:
Phew! I don't have to rhyme anymore just like I did before.

You know, I find it funny how Lost Silver was on the original gen 2 games while this one is on the gen 2 remakes. Other than some minor inconsistency with what happens in HG/SS, I thought this was pretty good. Kind of basic for my tastes, but still has decency. It had an interesting idea of the wireless trading mechanics. I was questioning that at first because your friend or the person you are trading with had to be in the same room or house back then. They had to be nearby to make the wireless trading work. It didn’t work out globally like it does with the games now. But it turns out you could trade globally in HHG/SS and in D/P/Pt, at least during the time of the release of this pasta. But I doubt the Nintendo wi-fi union room is still in service now.

I’m pretty sure the point of showcasing Hurry at the end was supposed to be indicate that it isn’t over for the protagonist because Hurry is I guess you could say a hacked Pokémon or something. They traded a messed-up Pokémon for another messed-up Pokémon.

So let's look at my ratings:
1 – The story- 9 / 10
2 – Creepy factors- 4 / 10
3 – Emotional impact- 6 / 10
4 – Flawlessness- 7 / 10
5 – The effort- 7 / 10

-Story-wise, it’s good. I think the build-up is decent and the execution of the concept of a pointless. I think my biggest problem was the whole thing was the TM moves felt pointless, especially with Explosion and Swagger. I was really hoping they would do something with the Explosion like to indicate DISABLED committing suicide or something like that. Yes, suicide is controversial and dark, but these are creepypastas we are talking. But I like what they did with Struggle to indicate DISABLED’s frustration with not being able to sing. They beat themselves over it the first time and then they take their anger out on the Ponyta the second time. Not sure if that was the intention, but that’s what I’m assuming it was indicating.

-The creepy factors are where I think the pasta’s the weakest at in my opinion. I agree that image of DISABLED on the  wiki page is disturbing, but I feel like that’s really all there is as far as it goes with creepy factors. I guess the thought of seeing the sprite would be disturbing as well. There were some missed opportunities like the protagonist could’ve pointed out how the Wigglytuff coincidentally had only the move Sing as the protagonist mentioned their relationship with humming with the tune in the past and mentioned how it only had that move only to show off the suspense of the pasta. Also, I really wish the protagonist mentioned who the original owner of DISABLED was when looking at the supposed “off” information in the summary. Could’ve had some opportunities to have the OT be named “Desire” or “Regret” or something since the protag had the desire to get a Wigglytuff or how they will have regret in getting DISABLED.

-For the emotional impact, you guys should read the pasta. I think the author did a great job with expressing their feelings throughout the story to make us feel for them. Like how they expressed their desperation to get rid of DISABLED and how they weren’t hesitant to trade it for the Cyndaquil who turn out to be Hurry. I really like how they expressed how they were so scared by what they saw, they refused to pick up their DS and had to call a friend for help. I think it works with the protagonist’s reactions. I’m sure people think they were overreacting, but think about how unexpected it might have been if you were in the protagonist’s perspective. It’s not like Alex Melee where the protagonists had little to no reaction to anything. It's not like Blood Whistle where the protagonist overreacted to everything in an embarrassing way. It’s just a common reaction for the unexpected horror for a pasta. Also, you can feel the desperation of DISABLED wanting to sing with all the off-set texts. Seeing DISABLED pretty much beat itself up out of frustration is depressing actually.

-I already talked about some of the errors found in the pasta for the flawlessness, but yeah, I think it’s a pretty solid pasta through and through. Although, yeah, the whole blood-dripping, red pupils with pitch dark eyes is an overused trope, but I don’t think it’s that bad used here. It’s cheesy and cliched but again, it’s not too bad here. I just wish there was little more to it. It seems like it relied a bit too much on that being scary. I have the same feelings where it could’ve been a little more with its concept, but not as much as with Milotic’s Revenge that barely did anything with its concept, and Zombreon that really felt abrupted with going by with its execution of the concept so fast for my taste.

-As for the effort, I do wish they had screenshots from a gameplay to enhance the experience because this is definitely one of those pastas they would’ve been even better with screenshots. I really think the way the author expresses their reactions are really well-done. What they did with the move Disable neat as well. I am kind of curious too on what did the original owner of DISABLED do to them. Also, I appreciate that they used someone who’s like underused like Wigglytuff, you would expect Jigglypuff because of like the anime or Super Smash Brothers, but it’s Wigglytuff. I like that. Now I’m going to get thousands of comments telling me how overused Wigglytuff is.

Yeah, it’s a.... a..... a... I can’t give the rating... Why can’t I give the rating? Can you rate? Give me your rating abilities! I’m just kidding... it’s a FRESH PASTA. Solid Story with some flaws here or there, and it could’ve done a little more.

7 Fresh Pastas | 6 Dried Pastas | 6 Spoiled Pastas

Anyway, like I said before, I think it's a good, solid story, but just a bit too basic and could've been a little more. If it did a little more with doing the missed opportunities I listed in my further thoughts and didn't rely too much on the pitch dark eyes and red pupils as a creepy factor, then it probably would've gotten above Hypno's Lullaby.

Next up: Guess what? Up next is review number 20!!! A milestone review!!! It's got to be something big and special!!!

Review number 20 is going to be on our MOST REQUESTED pokepasta to review. You know the one! It's Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Death!!!

But which version am I reviewing? The ones by star-byte or the ones by sparklingdemon? Simple. Well... it's not really simple because it will be time-consuming, but it will be ALL OF THEM!!! Well, just the notable ones to say the least. Obviously, the original one by star-byte will be first and then I will build up to sparklingdemon's versions. It will be a long but fun project!!!
