You're right, I've been thinking about it. My Prismacolor tips are pretty much the same but I can do one on Copics.

Still, there are probably a lot of newer watchers to your archive that missed it and/or the possibility of exposing a newer version to folks that never saw it in the first place.

I had one graphics class in college, but it only taught Photoshop, Painter and Bryce... the latter two can be fun but are completely useless in the working world!

Photoshop is the bomb! Never heard of Bryce. What did you study in College?

Bryce is awful. D: It's a 3D program. I was a Fine Arts major b/c my school didn't have graphic design. :\

It's really basic, and I know all the photoshop stuff we're learning... but I'm there to learn Illustrator and Quark, which come up in a few weeks.

I need me some copics.
They look so cool.
.....other then the fact that you have to sell your soul and first born child to afford them.
D:
...but wouldn't waiting for the markers to dry before another layer make the coloring LESS smooth? Like, more conspicuous? [It's perfectly splendid for those who likethe anime-styles coloring, though. :3]

I already left a comment, but I just thought of a question to ask you What are some skin colors you'd recommend getting?

azarath In reply to Monochrome-Rainbows [2007-09-24 21:49:01 +0000 UTC]
Eggshell, light peach, brick white, buff, light tan, goldenrod and sienna brown should give you a nice variation in tones.

I'm the same way with Photoshop, I have to open another image and use the color picker to get the tone I want.

thank you so much~! i just got my markers.. so im a little nervous about using them. but computer paper is ok to use?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
azarath In reply to maddalena-chan [2007-09-23 01:43:37 +0000 UTC]
Computer paper is a little thin, the markers will weaken the paper and possibly bleed. I suggest something a little thicker, like sketchbook paper, bristol board or cardstock.

Beautiful stuff, the colours and the casual styled font make this tutorial very easy to read. Even inside the piece, some of your characters look really good. I skim read the writing, and I found some things you were saying were quite useful to me, even though I don't tend to use markers. Good work, anyway!

hey not a bad tutorial but i would say never, never use markers on anything but marker paper. regular paper just sucks up those markers too quick. (and you know how expensive they are, hahaha!) i use Graphics 360 100% rag marker paper. much easier to blend too.

At the point when i made this, I never use marker paper. Now that I have, I love it, and really need to buy some. But smooth bristol works pretty well, it doesn't suck it up, unlike vellum bristol which does.

great tutorial, muchos tips. i literally took notes^^ i recently bought prismacolor markers.. is there a reason they write like regular colored sharpies? maybe the paper i'm using? i've tried smooth sketchbook paper, rough paper, computer paper, and both sides of presentation poster boards (glossy/roughnastyside) any suggestions? thanks^^
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
azarath In reply to SufferedMind [2006-08-01 01:34:05 +0000 UTC]
Glossy you probably found out is a bad idea, along with computer paper. I like using smooth bristol board myself. There's also paper made specifically for marker use; although I've nevr used it, I've seen the wonderful results *clrkrex gets using it. You'll soon find out that if you work with them fast enough (practice practice) they blend together and get smoother results than you could ever get from a sharpie. Sharpies run out of oomph fast, and tend to get streaky.
At first when I started using them, I wasn't too impressed either. But I found after some practice that my sharpies satrted gathering dust....

alright^^ thank you very much, and i'll look into the smoove bristol stuff. i'll continue to practice^^. oh! before i forget, the cleary marker for lightening things.. is there a better brand to buy from? or a really crappy one not to buy from? awsome art in the tutorial btw^^

The only kind I've used is Prismacolor brand blenders. I heard Tombow makes them, and probably so does Copic. However I REALLY recommend NOT using Prismacolor ones on Copics. I did it once and ruined a pic. It looked like I just rubbed chalk or something on the marker, it was awful. :\ But with Prismacolors it works fin... I don't really understand it myself, but there must be something slighlty different about their inks. My friend ~wyndstar used the Tombow ones... I think... bah, I have an awful memory.
heh, thanks, but most of those drawings are so old now!

Yeps! I definitely found this helpful. I use Prismas and Karisma pencils (sadly the latter has been discontinued which frankly sucks <_> Anyway.....I especially liked your tip about the clear blender..may have to look into getting one of those
Nice idea about carrying on using dying markers - especially since my one light peach marker is on its way out. *mourn* Need to get another....couple. Damn the perils of living in the UK...many miles from Prismas. Bah. Need to buyu them serperately if poss. Hmm..will look into that. ^^
Thanks very much for making this. Will fave cause it will definitely be verrah useful! Ta much!
