Got a request to do some background work from one of the hosts of NoGutsNoGalaxy, [link] A great podcast covering the game and anything mechwarrior/battletech related. Wanting some mechs more from the Inner Sphere prior to the Clan invasion. Got a Lance of Mechs cresting a ridge to join a battle. From left-right; Centurion, Locust, Catapult, JagerMech.
Check'em out!
Was fun to do, i need to do more scenes like this, lol.

And the Jagermech gets it in the face as always. Β Mind you, looks like a variant of some kind (energy weapons in the arms) so maybe it has some armor to take it. Β I love this picture, these are the mechs my 3025-lovin' self loves to use Β Great pic man, thank you! Β Keep up the good work.Β

Nice picture.Β I like the Innersphere love.Β Especially the classic mech designs.(OK, so they could be using 3050+ tech, but the chassis go back to 3025 tech readouts.)Β It seems most anything Battletech art is usually clan.
When I started playing tabletop Battletech, the clans where just being introduced.Β Me & my friends never got into them much.Β We generally played 3025 tech & later some 3050/Starleague Tech.
We used to run games at local conventions & after a few years we noticed a trend.Β The guys we played against usually ran clan & they were caught of guard at how fast mechs would heat up.Β I would sometimes hear our adversaries being concerned at being around 6 on the heat scale.Β For us if you weren't at least 6-8 on the scale most turns (depending on the mech), you weren't fighting hard enough.
Another trick I'd like to pull when playing 3050 tech, is to design my mechs with standard engines.Β A number of times I would loose a torso & hear the other side start celebrating my mechs death, only to have me say "It is still up, Standard engine.Β Β I guess most people automatically assume everyone uses XL engines.
Oh, & when we ran those convention games, every one on our side would design 2 sets of mechs & we would let our opponents choose which set they wanted to use.Β We decided it would be fair because they could look over all the mechs also & it kept them from saying we gave them inferior designs.

Why does a standard engine keep working when you loose a torso, but not an XL engine?

Sorry for replying so late, I was just going through the chat notifications (all these years & I just noticed were to find them...).
In the table top game If an engine takes 3 critical hits It goes offline/considered destroyed.Β On the damage record sheet the main body of the battlemech is divided into Left Torso, Center Torso, & Right Torso.Β If you have a standard engine, the only location that has engine critical slots that can be damaged is the Center Torso.Β If you us an XL engine, in addition to the regular engine critical slots there are 3 engine crit slots each in the Right & Left Torsos (for a total of6 additional engine critical slots).
Soooo... If you us an XL engine & lose all the damage points in either the Right or Left Torso, your engine has lost 3 crits & is now non-functional.Β A standard engine equipped 'mech doesn't have that problem.Β Of course if you are playing according to the background (for 3025 up to 3050 that is) the loss of a Right or Left Torso would have the 'Mech pilot retreating back to base or negotiating surrender/ransom terms.

the mechs look fantastic!!
but to my taste the light of the scene doesnt come even close!!!
could be much more dramatic and background should have more details!
such a great pic (it could be)
great work anyhow!!!

I see the Jagermech is doing what Jagermechs do best.

And how. All that is missing is the face-plant after the failed PSR. Into a stream of water that totally cores the unit and leaves the pilot munching on his picnic lunch while his mates do the heavy lifting.
Chris should totally do one like that.

Hell, that's practically gentle compared to the usual "oh look, you hit my ammunition" fate of Jagermechs.
I do approve of the thought of a Mechwarrior peacefully eating a sandwich on top of the face-down hulk of a Jager sticking out of a smallish stream and watching the battle in the mid-distance.
