Instead of covering it with carboard in step four, I made my horn a bit longer so i used a blanket stitch to close the red around the headband, then secured it with tacky glue.

dude thank you for this tutorial!!

i'm making condesce horns for a con next year and i wouldn't be able to handle her giant ass horns all day so plush ones seem a lot more reasonable!!! <3

Hey no problem!! I wish you luck at your con (and p.s. the horns double as pillows depending on size, haha) xD

this is really interesting because a while ago I was trying to make this nepeta hat and instead of making horns out of clay and cutting holes in the hat I wanted to make plush horns and just pin them on (so the hat can be used as human stuck as well) but i looked around and couldn't find any tutorials for some reason?? anyways I ended up doing a LOT of math to figure out how to make these goddanng horns and it was hard and I wish I had found this earlier ^^

Thank you for your comment I hope this is helpful to you. It can be applied to any kind of horns too. I think a homestuck hat would be so cool :0

Cosmic-Brownie [2013-09-26 02:37:14 +0000 UTC]

Why do you need four of each section? I'd think that you'd only need two... unless there's something I missed here, lol xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BaileyNickerson In reply to Cosmic-Brownie [2013-10-07 21:19:40 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply! You would need 4 horn pieces, or 2 for each horn (front and back)

Cosmic-Brownie In reply to BaileyNickerson [2013-10-07 22:31:42 +0000 UTC]

Would this still work for rather big Β horns, like Summoner size or something like that? I am working on making my fantroll into a costume, but her horns are rather big and are way too heavy to stay on my head when I have tried other methods ;w;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BaileyNickerson In reply to onelittlewerewolf [2013-09-04 03:50:07 +0000 UTC]

I have never tried horns larger than the picture, but I think its is worth a shot. If you do, definitely use a headband and make sure it is wide enough for you to attach the horns I would look into some lightweight stuffing too. I wish you luck and it would be awesome to see how they turn out!

This is really cool! And it's nice that you explained everything; even if people can sew really well, it's nice to have a reminder once in a while about what is what.
Sheets of felt cost $0.25? Man....were I live, it's $0.89 per sheet.

BaileyNickerson In reply to krystalfan-2 [2013-05-13 19:54:38 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm I wonder why? Ours can get up to around 50 cents on a pricey day. Maybe its the store or method of distribution? I am glad you like my tutorial :3

krystalfan-2 In reply to BaileyNickerson [2013-05-13 23:16:31 +0000 UTC]

Canadian prices are high, but I think it's because our dollar is high. Still, I would love to pay $0.50 a sheet. Save my poor wallet.

I actually made plush horns nearly the exact same way for a Vriska cosplay - the only difference was I actually put wire in the horns and left some coming out of the bottom of each side then put the wire through my wig and adjusted it to make sure I wasn't getting poked in the brain or anything by the wire. It was super comfy, the horns didn't tip over because the wire was sandwiched between my head and the wig well and because it was super light weight, and people really liked them. ( [link] here's the best picture I have of me in them)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BaileyNickerson In reply to SandFan [2013-05-08 17:37:41 +0000 UTC]

Wow nicely done! I agree, if you're wearing a wig, the wires must have been very helpful. The only problem with having the horns separate on hair clips, for me, wasa making sure they weren't crooked, haha xD
