Description Another canine piece. I decided to have some fun and draw a red fox..this is one of my earlier pencil sketches and I know since this one I have already improved in technique. But I gotta remind myself every now and then that although improving and bettering myself in my art is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to continue to have a passion for what I do and to pour my heart into whatever I create along the road of learning.

Also one thing I do want to point out is..yes I actually do draw their bones bulkier intentionally ..At this time I just prefer that look, may change later as I experiment and plaaaaaaaaay . But for anyone that wondered, yes, veray intentional!

A few comments from you deviant folks have truly made me step back and stop being so over critical of my work. Thats what I need, I don't think anyone else could rip apart my work as much as I do so myself. So oftentimes I forget to see the positive aspects in my own work and to see beyond the sometimes harshly worded critique I receive on my pieces. Thank you all. And mind you..I do appreciate well written critique, there is always room to grow...always.

tools: 11x14 bristol, mechanical pencil..think I just used a .7 on this one since it was more for the sheer hey of it.
prints: course, 8$ american plus S&H.
Time: can't remember honestly.

Original: sold

OH one more thing..does anyone out there in deviant land know a name of a really good celtic knotwork book? There are SO many out there but I want some advice on which are good!

Deviant Robert Sloan ( ) might have some good ideas. He has a wealth of knowledge on drawing and sketching books. And he's done a bit of celtic knot work himself.

As for the foxy, she's very pretty, although I favor longer snouts myself. Your anatomical styling is extremely well done as always, and this is exactly the kind of work that speaks for the serious fan of anthromorphic pin up art. Tasteful fantasy, art for the sake of art, instead of art for the sake of fandom. There is a difference, and you show it very well.

I kinda like how you put works like this in Scraps. It makes me feel special that, because I'm watching your Scraps, I get to see a lot of really awesome pictures that other folks never know are there. Then again, from the looks of the comments here, I'm far from the only one watching Scraps, so obviously I'm not TOO special...

I don't know much about Celtic knotwork, but I spoke with someone who makes and sells Celtic knotwork jewelry once and asked her about such things, and she recommended looking for books on Chinese knots, actually. However, that was for tying the knots, not drawing them, so I don't know how useful that would be.

well I am glad you do watch my scraps..I actually value these views more than the views I get on my formal deviations. Its funny..the idea of popularity is not all its cracked up to be..somedays I genuinely miss the days when I first started at deviant. Less scrutinizing eyes judged me then and appreciated my work, flaws and all, more than they do nowadays. Mind you..I am greatful for each and every pageview, comment and fave I dooooo receive..I guess I just let the negative crit get to me too much somedays. Thats why I like to hide some works in scraps..my little oasis !

Thank you for stopping by and commenting, definetly reminds me how grateful I am to the members of this community *nuzzzz*

Gorgeous as usual. I actually see nothing wrong with her stomach or feet at all, as mentioned above by various commenters. My only crit is the length of the thighs – her right is notiably longer than her left. But it doesn’t distract from the picture, and her face is simply beautiful. Keep up the stunning work. These have to be the best 'scraps' on Devi. <3

it may just be me, but it seems the "feet" may be slightly enlongated...and either she just ate, is slightly chubby, or something 'cause it does look like her stomach is a little more pronaunced than it ought to be...i dunno. i cant draw worth a flip with a pencil so i really shouldn't say much...maybe she's just chubby...

This piece is a prime example of why I watch your scraps. Absolutely stunning job on this. ^_^
I have a celtic knotwork book, but I'm not sure how good it is as I haven't been exposed to a heck of a lot of celtic knotwork books. It's How to Draw Celtic Knotwork: A Practical Handbook by Andy Sloss. It might be worth a look.

It's amazing how much detail you can squeeze into this just working with mechanical pencil. The little designs around her eyes are really cool.

Also, I love the way you do legs on these kinds of pictures. Even with the feminine ones, their legs look so powerful.

Anyway...these do have an incredible amount of detail, I've been sitting here the past five minutes just staring at it and soaking it all up.

i'm glad you're starting to push yourself to the limit and forcing yourself to see the GOOD in your art! i know that's tough for me too. but your pieces are always lovely, so lovely. you astound me with what you can do with a pencil. like.. i literally sit there a moment and go WOW!!! it's really amazing. keep up the good work, and always remember to be a little less harsh on yourself!

That is one lovely piece. Though I must ask this question, because no one has answered it yet. Why do female anthro creatures get human-like breasts when their animal counterpart has something completely different?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

balaa In reply to Iybran [2006-06-30 00:32:45 +0000 UTC]

I think because otherwise its difficult to tell whether it is female..wheras with a male..its quite obvious whether it is human/canine etc. I think thats the reason.

Who is our worst critic but ourselves, I know that feeling. As always, I find your work beautiful, details are amazing.

Now I don't know if it's just me not sleeping in about 24 hours or what, but I think her stomach looks a little...off...I dunno, it just looks funny to me. But none the less, still a very pretty picture

they do say we are our own worst and harshest critic!! *grins* Your work is absolutely amazingly beautiful!! So inspiring coming and looking at your work. This is the kind of artwork I would dearly love to be able to do myself, and simply looking at your work is helping to inspire me to actually get out there and learn how. I could so easily add 99% of your work to my favourite collection, and in fact, am pretty much doing so. Always looking forward to seeing more.
