Description I had initially no idea how I was going to go about my "Forty of the Fourth". I talk a big game, but I didn't know how to kickoff. And then I decided to go back and watch a Fourth Doctor serial to generate ideas; that was when I realized how to approach the kickoff.

"Image of the Fendahl" was that serial, and one of the first box sets I'd bought from Character Options, so this was somewhat of a no-brainer to start things off with. I had a backdrop, accessories, and an appropriate Leela (I realize that Tom wasn't wearing a necktie or cravat in the story, so this is as close as it will get for me to achieve that look) so why not start off with it?

The story is probably my second favorite of the fifteenth season, following "Horror of Fang Rock". The two reached back to the gothic horror of the Hinchcliffe era, displaying the dark atmospheres of old houses, tricky characters, and doom that made the stories of 1975 and 1976 so excellent under Hinchcliffe. Graham Williams was no slouch in his tenure, as evidenced by the growing respect for his era as much as the Hinchcliffe or Letts eras, but at the same time "Fendahl" is slightly flawed due to the real horror of the Fendahl never being properly explained, or that it could have done with the dropping of one part or rolling it into another, leaving enough room for the Fendahl to be properly done up as a proper threat to the Doctor and Leela.

I should probably say that for anyone who's never seen the story, the Doctor does indeed use a shotgun (borrowed from my Evil Dead 2 Hero Ash) to blast some rock salt at the Fendahleen.

As it stands, though, you can never go wrong with a giant monster, and while the Fendahleen aren't my favorite of the non-Cybermen/Dalek Doctor Who monsters, they do photograph nicely.

Thanks, always loved this one! I'll heckuva time picking my favorites when this project is done, but this one I enjoy because it was the first and definitely gets its idea across the best

It was excellent, you had the perfect length for each vignette. I'm glad you moved it from your scraps, it was a wonderful tale and nicely paced with rich dialogue.
