Description
they look kind of hilarious squirming all over the desk while they wait for me to finish their legs. The grey is a pressure cast and the white is a junk cast to clean the molds out. the pressure cast was exciting... and noisy. but it was so clean! that made me so stupid happy to not have a bunch of tiny bubbles in the cast.

Thank you so much for sharing these types of pictures. It's really wonderful to see your creations in their WIP , ahem, I mean, 'Larval' state!!
And after having seen a couple of casting demonstrations (and knowing what kind of dough is sitting in those molds) I can Totally see how a bubble-free cast would be stupidly thrilling!! XD I'll be a loon after having my first clean casting happen successfully!

Do you mean to make her white or on her face? The resin itself is white and can be dyed a variety of colors when it's cast. The face is done with chalk pastels that are ground into a powder and applied with make-up brushes and matte sealer(Mr. Super Clear). For lashes I used acrylic paint with a little flow ease to make it more of an ink-like consistency. :3

It's the same? I used black resin dye to make her gray.

sometimes when you see a gray one it's covered in primer for when i get ready to cast... but this one was cast in gray. Casting it in gray helps me see imperfections that are hard to see on the white(which tends to be a little translucent). :3

Pressure casting is when you pour the resin into the molds and put the molds into a pressure pot. You pressurize the pot and the pressure compresses any air bubbles in you get in your casts so that you get very nice, solid casts. You can cast without it so long as you have good molds with a lot of vents and a casting environment with low humidity.

the bubbles are irritating :''D but it's hard to make air holes and i don't even know how i can even know where those will come. pressure pot would be nice but dunno where to buy such a thing and get loads of money for it :''D

yeah, the pressure pot is expensive and you need an air compressor for it. It's not necessary for casting. Knowing how to vent the mold just comes from experience. I still don't always get it right and end up either having to make a new mold or cutting extra vents in(which is easy to cut yourself during). Try looking at Dan Perez Studio's workshop page. He's got a good how-to on the basics of molding with silicone and where to put vents. :3

did you try using straws to build the limbs on? It gives you some skeletal strength so it's a little easier to shape.

Straws? OAO; ah I'll try them, never used straws XP
I'm using Ceramic sculpting clay so I'll give them a try Thanks

the straws should work and you can pull them out when you're done. I posted some sculpting videos on youtube that might help with that... or at least it explains how i rough out my dolls.

I think she'll be 12-13 inches? I haven't measured her since i made her legs a bit longer a while back... plus she'll have some helmet adding to height.
